water and sand hazards and treelined fairways. This challenging

The trails are maintained based on current ice conditions,
fishing activity and weather conditions. BE AWARE! Weather
conditions on the lake can and will temporarily close trails.
Trails will be re-opened as soon as conditions warrant. The
Devils Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, its committees
and members assume no liability in the efforts to maintain
trails on Devils Lake. It is the responsibility of the user to
determine current ice conditions, weather conditions, locate
and avoid natural or man made hazards. We ask that if you
use the trails, you get at least 100 feet from the trail before
drilling any holes or placing an ice house.
PLEASE SUPPORT OUR EFFORTS:
Unlike similar trail systems in other communities that
charge a per-day fee, these trails are free to its users. The
community raises the funds from business donations and
voluntary membership association. If you come to Devils
Lake and use the trails, we would appreciate your support.
Become a member of the Lake Access Association for only
$10/year by sending your $10 donation to:

Ice houses are no longer required to be licensed. An unoccupied house does
require identification. The house must display on its outside, in characters at least
3 inches high, owner’s name and address or phone number.
• All water must be drained from boats and other watercrafts, including bilges,
motors, live wells and bait wells before leaving the water body.

NDGF to ensure the guide is licensed and/or certified. Licensed guides are North Dakota residents who have paid a fee to ND Game & Fish Department. Certified guides
have also met the following requirements: proof of insurance, proof of current CPR certification, and proof of First Aid certification. Be sure to ask the guide service for the

Hunters’
PARADISE
WATER & UPLAND GAME ARE PLENTIFUL
IN THIS CENTRAL FLYWAY FOR FOWL.
Within minutes you will come across ducks, geese, grouse, partridge
and even a few pheasant. Archery hunting for deer is excellent,
varied terrain and excellent cover. For those same reasons, rifle deer
hunting also yields excellent results. Camo up against the chill of an
early fall morning, find your spot and fill your limit by noon.
bry
LICENSING SALES:
To find out information on getting a non-resident hunting licenses, visit http://gf.nd.gov/licenses/.
Hunters education is required for anyone born after 1961. Be sure to have a copy of your hunter
education certificate handy when applying for a license. Nonresidents under the age of 16 from
the states of MN, MI, MS, TN, TX and CO can buy North Dakota hunting licenses at resident prices
because their state offers the same opportunity to North Dakota youths.
LAND ACCESS ISSUES:
• Ask permission for access to posted property
• Avoid fields or prairie roads when wet
• Remain farther than 440 yds from buildings
or livestock
• Pick up all litter
• Close gates behind you
• Areas not posted are open to public hunting

History
VISIT OUR
Built in 1867, the Fort Totten Historic Site has served many
purposes over the decades, but has been restored to the look of
its use as a fort. If you listen carefully, you can almost hear the
soldiers marching in the square or taps being played. For a more
complete history, set aside time to enter the original buildings.
Take in the Plummer’s Store and stroll the wooden boardwalks.
Stop at the Interpretive Center, Pioneer Daughter’s Museum,
Gift Shop and also check out the Traveling Exhibits. And why
not complete the experience? Book a room at the Totten Trail
Historic Inn (frontier style bed and breakfast).
The downtown area is a historic monument to its origins from
the 1880’s. Much of the charm of Turn of the Century brick
and design is seen on the buildings lining Main Street. Take a
walking tour and view 59 buildings on the National Historic
Register or visit the WWII Maritime Museum with its rare
collection of war memorabilia.
Stop in to investigate the Lake Region Heritage Center, museum
and art gallery that houses the unique history of the Lake
Region. Displays include the Old Post Office, Life of the Lake:
Devils Lake, The Federal Courtroom, and other unique displays.
The Sheriff’s House Museum is a stop where you can step back
in time to the turn of the century. It features parlors, kitchen and
dining rooms, five bedrooms that have changed little from the
time the residence was occupied in 1911. It also features exhibits
narrating and interpreting the history of Devils Lake.

Catch it All
Devils Lake is the largest natural body of water
in North Dakota. Covers more than 160,000
acres. The fertile prairie lake grows large
numbers of Walleye, Northern Pike, White Bass
and it has earned the reputation of being the
“Perch Capital of the World.” Perch weighing
more than two pounds are caught frequently.
In the fall, hundreds of thousands of waterfowl
migrate through and give both local and visiting
hunters outstanding hunting opportunities.
A city of almost 8,000 neighbors and friends and
more than 500 businesses, Devils Lake’s citizens
are always working and building a solid future
for our children and community. A high quality
of life with excellent medical facilities, schools,
parks, quality water and a safe environment.
Lake Region State College offers higher
educational degrees and continuing education
that allow our businesses and workforce to stay
in step with the fast-paced global market.
