AACA’s Old Salem Chapter monthly meeting will be Tuesday, Apr. 19 at The Olympic Restaurant,
1541 W. Mountain St., in Kernersville. Dinner starts at 6:00 PM and the business part of the meeting
will start at 7:00 PM. Don’t forget to invite and/or bring your antique/classic vehicle friend(s) with you
for a fun evening! See ‘ya Tuesday for some great food, fun, and fellowship!

Hello again,
Get ready as the Chapter is entering its busiest few months of the
year! We have the Purple Heart Fundraiser on April 23rd, our
Spring Folly on May 7th and our first Downtown Cruise-In on June
11th. Ruth Ann has several other events (check your OSC
Calendar) sprinkled in as well. All of these events provide some
great opportunities for us to spend some good times together.
We will need some volunteers for all these events and I'm sure
Ruth Ann will discuss this further at our next meeting on Tuesday
evening. I know that you will help out based on working with you
in the past.
I look forward to seeing all of you at our meeting!

Please keep James Alley (and Alma) in your thoughts and prayers. James was in the hospital recently
with Pneumonia, Bronchitis and fluid in his lungs. He is home now and doing better.
Congratulations to David Lineback on receiving an AACA Senior for his 1930 Erskine.
And we also congratulate Ed Lineback on receiving an AACA Senior for his 1924 Ford Model T.

Purple Heart Foundation Benefit Car Show!

Saturday, April 23rd, will be our first ever Purple Heart Benefit Car Show to be held at the Main
Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville, 12 Noon till 4:00 pm. The Northwest Piedmont Purple
Heart Foundation requested our OSC (through our member Jimmy Hailey who was on the board at the time)
to possibly partner with them to help raise funds for the Purple Heart Dinner they will hold in August at the
Richard Childress Racing Complex in Welcome for the Purple Heart recipients and their families.
We jumped on the bandwagon and got things rolling and this exciting
event is almost here! On the following page you will see the flyer
with most of the info on it. Since this flyer was created, there have
been a few other developments that I would like to share with you:
1) The Kernersville Fire Department has graciously offered to
bring their vintage 1923 American LaFrance firetruck for
display with the U.S. Flag flying on top … how cool!
2) Our Kernersville Mayor, Dawn Morgan, has agreed to
come and say a few words for us.
3) We will have a HUGE military truck and 2-3 military Jeeps on display.
4) Benny Vickers, a Purple Heart Veteran and retired racecar driver, will have his “Purple Heart”
racecar there and will say a few words for us.
5) Our OSC Honorary Member and good friend, Danny Crouse, will be singing the National
Anthem for us at the beginning of our opening program and then after the VFW Memorial Guard’s
performance is over, he will then sing Lee Greenwood’s, “God Bless the USA.”
6) The VFW Memorial Honor Guard will “Present the Colors,” do a presentation to honor each
branch of the service, and then will end with Johnny Cash’s “The Old Ragged Flag.”
7) 20 Model A/T’s confirmed to attend the show and one of the drivers is a WWII Veteran!
8) Spectator parking areas have been confirmed by the Ciener Botanical Gardens, S & R Motors,
and the parking lot next to Ciener Gardens at Main Street & Harmon Lane.
9) We are reserving the church parking lot for Show Cars only, hopefully we will fill it up!
10) The Purple Heart Foundation will be selling Hot Dogs & Drinks.
11) Be sure to check the Kernersville News next week, either Tuesday or Thursday. There will be an
article written about our event that Dickie Speas (our OSC Purple Heart Veteran), John and I were
interviewed for, along with a picture.
Okaaay now … we will need some VOLUNTEERS (10:30 AM) to pull this whole thing off! I will
have a Sign-Up sheet at our meeting … PLEASE GIVE US YOUR SUPPORT! This should be a great
day to remember!
** FYI … We will initially be sharing space at the church parking lot for an East Forsyth High School
Yard Sale on the Cherry Street side that will last till 1:00 pm.

16th Annual Kernersville Classic Car Show

Saturday, May 7th, is our biggest OSC fundraiser and event of
the year, our 16th Annual Car Show at the Kernersville
Spring Folly held in the parking lots from the Chamber of
Commerce to NewBridge Bank off Mountain Street! In order
to pull this off as easy and stress-free as possible, we will
NEED to have everyone help that can! PLEASE BE WILLING
TO DONATE YOUR TIME ... it isn't hard work by any means
and can be a lot of fun in the process, but it is a long day and
any relief along the way will certainly be appreciated.
The following "jobs" are who we need people for:
7:00 AM Set-Up (5) / 7:00 AM Parking (5-8) / 7:30 AM Registration Table (3) / 9:00 AM Judges (20+) No
experience necessary / Clean-Up after 3 PM.
I will have Sign-Up sheets for our “jobs” at our meeting on Tuesday so please be sure to attend, if you can.
We will also have our "Driving Thru the Decades" antique car display, again this year. It will consist of two
to three (2-3) cars per decade, starting in the 1920's thru the 1980's. Each of these cars will be parked in the
Chamber of Commerce parking lot for display and will have special window cards made up to place on the
windshield so everyone will know what they are looking at. This has always worked out to be a very
impressive display for everyone to enjoy.
I will also have Sign-up sheets for this Decades display at our meeting, too. Our Decades display this year
will be “Orphan Cars,” cars from manufacturers that are no longer in production.
For those of you new to us since our Car Show last year, the Spring Folly Festival is a REALLY big event
for the Town of Kernersville bringing 20,000+ to the Downtown streets. The streets are full of vendors, lots
of food, and great entertainment plus carnival rides for the kids ... great family fun!
And ... this is the time for our Old Salem Chapter AACA to put our best foot forward and showcase our
beautiful cars, too. All of our club cars will be displayed in the Chamber/Town Hall parking lot as a club
display. We encourage all of our members to participate in displaying their car(s). It will not cost you
anything to register (our club treasury pays a flat fee for ALL of our members to attend) but ... EACH CAR
MUST BE REGISTERED! So please fill out the following Registration Form (one for each car) and mail
it to the Chamber of Commerce at the address listed ... and ... where it says "Car Club," be sure to put
OSC AACA or Old Salem Chapter in that space.
Gonna be a great day! Come join us and show everyone those beautiful cars!
