Unchanged since the Roman Empire, the barrel clay tile is still
a dominant roofing material on the Mediterranean shores, and can
also be spotted on a few Classified Buildings in Britain. These tiles
are conical, and will lock by simply sliding one into the other.
Laid on low-pitched roofs, barrel tiles are perfectly adapted to
torrential rainfalls. There are two major length in that segment:
500 mm and 400 mm. Terreal proposes a complete range of barrel
tiles, including products with a strong Mediterranean identity and
an original Monuments Historiques Barrel Tile, whose texture and
colours have been designed to match Northern architectures.

BARREL TILE
Crafted in one of the most traditional
tile plants in France, the Monuments
Historiques barrel tile is designed to
renovate roofs covering our architectural
heritage. Thanks to it sophisticated
skin and traditional format, this tile
replicates the look of recovered tiles.
Colours to Mix.
The Monuments Historiques tile
is available in a range of rich
and bright sanded colours.
These colours can mix and match
to create beautiful patchworks
respecting the style of the original
roof.
ARCHITECT’S SPECIFICATION
The tiles shall be extruded clay barrel tiles.
Cover tiles shall present the following aspect:
• Length: 400 mm.
• Width: 170 mm at the smaller end of the barrel
(butt) and 190 mm at the larger end (nose).
• Covers per sq.m.: 17 to 20 on average.
• The exposure shall be completely sanded,
to replicate the irregular skin of recovered tiles.
• Tiles with a smooth skin or incomplete sanding
are not permitted.
