SUMMER STARTS HERE ArtVentures: Ages 5-7 & 8-11 (5 year olds must be enrolled in school) Our popular ArtVentures program for children provides students with the opportunity to explore creative themes, try a variety of art mediums, and make new friends! Classes meet from 9am-4pm with a 30-45 minute lunch break and two 15 min snack breaks. Weather permitting, students will eat lunch and snack outside on our playground. Before care will be available at 8:00am and after care will be available until 5:00pm. Member: $346, includes materials ,Non-member: $385, includes materials, registration fee is an additional $5.50) Add-Ons 8am drop-off: $50 per week, 5pm pick-up: $50 per week June 24-28: Planes, Trains and Automobiles This week will be geared towards things that move. Fly a kite, design a car or make a mobile for your room. This class will look at balance and movement in art. July 1,2,3,5: Island Time Take a trip to a tropical island! This class will make 2D and 3D island inspired artwork. We will design postcards from our trip and design and build unique sea creatures. July 8 – 12: Wild About Art: Farm Animals Build a barn and your own farm animals! Older students can experiment with plaster sculpture and design. July 15-19: Art around the World From Africa to Asia to South America all in one week! This class will make traditionally inspired artwork from a variety of cultures. July 22-26: Peas and Carrots: Food Inspired Art From paintings of fruit to fun felt veggies this class will look at pop art and abstraction. July 29 – August 2: Game On! Create your own board game from start to finish! Create a plot, rules and pieces - then play! August 5-9: Art Inspired This week we will learn about different artists and experiment with different materials and styles. From Eric Carle inspired collage to portraits inspired by Paul Klee we are sure to create our own masterpieces. August 12-16: Monsters, Robots and Creepy Crawlers Make monsters that move, robots that rock and bugs that don’t bite! August 19-23: Puppet Theater Build a puppet and put on a show. From shadow puppets to hand puppets this theatrical week is sure to delight. August 26 -30: Storybook Write and illustrate your own stories, design a bookmark and share it with your friends! Ages 2-3 Art in Action Instructor: Casey Scarry Saturdays, 9:30 - 11:00am Member: $115 Non-Member: $126* Come participate in a summer of creative art making. We will use unique materials to explore texture, shape and movement. Parent and child will work together in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Siblings under age 5 welcome! Session 1: July 6, 13, 20, 27 Session 2: August 10, 17, 24, 31 Member: $472, Non-Member: $518* Summer Studios: Ages 10-12 & 13-17 Summer studios is a two-week long program that offers young artists the opportunity to create art in a focused creative environment. Students have the chance to explore different materials and develop their skills. Those students interested in developing their portfolio will receive guidance. Classes meet from 9am - 2pm and break for a 30-45 minute lunch. Session 1: July 8 - 19: Acrylic Painting & Pottery Spend one week painting with acrylics and one week in the pottery studio. Learn the basics of working with acrylic paint including color mixing, building layers and various brush techniques. Students will experience painting outdoor landscapes, still lives, self portraits or portraits of their friends. In pottery, learn the basics of handbuilding and wheelthrowing. Use your imagination and inspiration to create usable objects. Session 2: July 22 - August 2: Jewelry & Metalsmithing & Life Drawing Draw from a live model (clothed). The purpose of this week is to help students obtain the basic skill of drawing the human form, including anatomy, perspective and fundamental exercises in gesture, contour, & outline drawing. Week two is an introduction to metalsmithing techniques. Your teacher will guide you to shape, polish, solder, pierce, etch and embellish jewelry or metal objects in copper and brass. Session 3: August 5 - 16: Printmaking & Pottery Explore printmaking processes including monotype and linoleum block techniques. Learn different techniques of hand printing and printing with a press. In pottery, learn the basics of handbuilding and wheelthrowing. Use your imagination and inspiration to create usable objects. Session 4: August 19 - 30: Drawing & Painting & Pottery Spend one week drawing and painting and one week in the pottery studio. Experiment with different drawing and painting materials and earn fundamental techniques. Materials include pen, ink, charcoal, watercolor, and/or acrylic. In pottery, learn the basics of handbuilding and wheelthrowing. Use your imagination and inspiration to create usable objects. *(does not include the $5.50 registration fee) Member: $300, Non-Member: $330* Pottery & Wheelthrowing Intensive: Ages 10 - 12 & 13 -17 Start with a lump of clay, add water, your imagination and our inspiration to create your own usable objects. This intensive pottery program will introduce students to wheel-throwing fundamentals. Classes meet from 9am - 2pm and break for a 30-45 minute lunch. Session 1: July 8 -12: Ages 10-12 Session 2: July 22 -26: Ages 13-17 Session 3: July 29 - August 2: Ages 10-12 Session 4: August 5-9: Ages 13-17 Session 5: August 12-16: 10-12 Session 6: August: 19-23 : Age 13-17 Session 7: August 26-30: Ages 10-12 Jewelry and Metalsmithing Intensive: Ages 12-17 Students will gain general knowledge of jewelry making and metalsmithing techniques hands-on from day one! Session 1: July 8 -12 Session 2: July 15 - 19 Session 3: August 5 - 9 Session 4: August 12 - 16 Session 5: August 19 - 23 Session 6: August 26-30 Find Your Voice: Painting and Printmaking for teens Instructor: Leonie Little Lex, Tuesdays from 6:00 - to 8:00pm Explore 2-D possibilities with acrylic paint, monotypes and block printing in this hybrid class. Discover your own artistic identity by creating unique and personalized work. 9 Tuesdays: July 2 - August 27 Member: $218, Non-member: $239* ADULT CLASSES Clay for the Beach: Member: $347, Non-member: $378* Students learn to work with wheel and handbuilding techniques to create works inspired by our favorite New England pasttime-- no-not the local sports team... the beach! Projects might include trays for treats poolside, carafes and containers for your favorite tropical drink, windchimes for those summer breezes, and maybe even some sandcastles that won't get washed away! 9 Mondays: July 1 - August 26 Bowl me Over! Member: $336, Non-Member: $308* Students explore bowl forms and create functional to sculptural bowls that can be used every day for serving, snacking, or simply showing off! Wheel and handbuilding techniques will be used-- all levels of experience welcome. 8 Thursdays: July 11 - August 29 Date Night: Member: $154, Non-Member: $168* Get dirty in the clay room! Learn to work with clay to create objects you can share, use, and brag about to each other for years to come! Wheelthrowing and handbuilding techniques will be demonstrated in a relaxed, fun environment that is WAY more exciting than staying in on a Friday night! Meet other adventurous couples! Feed off of each other's creativity and be inspired to create fun projects that can be used and enjoyed by the whole family. Projects might include coffee mugs, mixing bowls, piggy banks, candleholders, and more! Your teacher will guide you to shape, polish, solder, pierce, etch and embellish jewelry in copper and brass. You can make earings, bracelets, brooches, boxes and more. Teachers will also introduce hollow forms, stone settings, stone inlay, repousse and reticulation.
