Enrollment and Residency Information
Parents enroll new students at the school site. To enroll in kindergarten, a child must be five-years-old by December 1. A birth certificate, three proofs of residency, and immunization records are required for all students.
In order to establish legal residence for school purposes, by
Farmington School Board policy, as well as Michigan law, a student must fulfill one of the following requirements: 1. Residing with a parent in the District.
2. Residing with a legal guardian in the District.
3. Affidavit placement of a child (relative only). Cannot be for educational purpose.
4. Be placed in a licensed home in the District by a court or a child placing agency.
5. Be 18 years of age and residing in the District.
6. Be an emancipated minor with proof of residency, a source of income, and a copy of the court decision emancipating him/her.
7. Be a foreign exchange student limited to one year’s attendance.
8. Be a handicapped person who lives in the District or who has been enrolled in the District through the IEPC process for Oakland Schools’ programs.
The resident assuming responsibility for the student will produce three or more documents as proof of residency.
Examples are: proof of ownership (deed), current utility bills, tax statements, charge card statements, and rental/lease
agreements. Drivers licenses and voter registration cards are
insufficient proofs of residency since addresses can be changed easily.
Transportation Services
Transportation is available for students residing in the
District, attending Farmington schools or non-public schools
located within the District, who live more than 1 1/2 miles from
their home school. Lower elementary students that live within
1 1/2 miles, but would cross a major street will also receive
transportation.
