February Event Calendar
February 2 meeting - The André Gallant workshop committee will present detailed information about this event,
which is scheduled for June 5-6, 2010. Steve Dunn and LeeAnn LaFleur, who have attended workshops led by
Freeman Patterson and André Gallant, will present slide shows and tell us of their workshop experiences.
February 16 meeting - Travel Photography II. Tim True and Phil Downes will show images of their travels to the
Western US and Janet Favor will show images from her trip to Japan. Robin Robinson will follow with a “cabin
fever reliever” slide show of her terrific flower gardens in Phippsburg.
CLUB NEWS
January 5 meeting - David Hodsdon gave a Photoshop
class and members interested in nature and wildlife
photography convened to compare notes on camera
equipement and other topics of mutual interest.
January 19 meeting - the André Gallant workshop
presentation was rescheduled because of stormy
weather.
The George W. Glennie Nature Intererclub Exhibition
will be held on March 27 this year. Members interested
in representing our club should be selecting some
images for consideration in February.
A two-day André Gallant workshop will be held in
Augusta on weekend of June 5-6, 2010.

the children’s Monarch butterfly program and the butterfly
garden. She is trained in environmental interpretation and
landscape architecture. Prior to joining the Curtis Library
staff, Hubbell managed outreach for Maine Audubon. In
her ‘spare time’ she monitors juvenile lobsters for the
Lobster Conservancy. Come early to purchase café treats.
Proceeds benefit Maine Street plantings by the Village
Improvement Association. Reservations recommended,

Andross in Brunswick, ME.
Several CACC members delivered photographs to the
Senator Inn and Spa on Western Avenue in Augusta
Saturday morning for display in the restaurant and other
public areas. Janet Favor reports that one customer
has already asked to buy a larger print of a Morocco
photograph she has on display.
Michael Woodward has photographs on display at the
L/A Arts Gallery 5 in Lewiston.

& ACCOLADES

Event: CALL FOR ARTISTS -- PICTURES AT AN
EXHIBITION “A multimedia performance with the
Augusta Symphony Orchestra”
What: Performance

Where: Hope Baptist Church, Rt 202, Manchester,
Maine
How to submit work for the electronic exhibition
(Submission deadline is March 1, 2010 at midnight.)
Send a high quality jpg* attached to an email (important!
--do not paste your image into the email).
In the body of your email provide the following
information:
1. Artist Name
2. Title of Art
Calling Maine artists to participate in a unique
collaboration of music and art! On March 27, 2010,
the Augusta Symphony Orchestra and the Kennebec
Valley Art Association will be presenting a multimedia
performance of Pictures at an Exhibition. Pictures
at an Exhibition is a famous suite in ten movements
composed for piano by Modest Mussorgsky in 1874
after the death of his friend, artist and architect Viktor
Hartmann. The music depicts an imaginary tour of an
art collection. The titles of the individual movements
allude to artwork by Hartmann; Mussorgsky based his
musical material on specific drawings and watercolors
by his friend.
3. Media
Visual artists are invited to listen to the music and
submit original art in response. This can be existing
art, or new art inspired by the music. You can listen to
all ten movements of the suite online at the Wikipedia,
and see some of Hartmann’s art that inspired them

8. Optional -- short statement regarding this piece and/or
your response as an artist to the music.
The art exhibit will be entirely electronic. All visual
art media is eligible, including painting, drawing,
printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramic, etc.
Images of selected art will be projected on a large screen
above the musicians during the concert. This is a great
opportunity to share your work with a large and varied
audience; seating capacity is around 300 and with your
help we hope to sell out this unique concert event!
Information about artists and their art will be included
in the concert program; art may be sold through the
Harlow Gallery’s online shop through the month of
March; and each artist whose work is included in the
slide show will receive one free ticket to the concert.
In addition, we invite artists to create work onsite during
the concert. Space is limited, and you must sign up in
advance to participate. You may sketch, draw or paint the
musicians, the audience or simply be inspired by the music.
Participating artists receive free admission to the concert. To

6. Price if offered for sale. (All sales are subject to our usual
commission of 30% for KVAA members or 40% for nonmembers. Please price your work accordingly.)

*images should be in jpg format, in size at least 300 dpi, or
between 1-3 megabytes, or in inches 4x6 or larger.

electronic exhibition. Submissions due by email on or

March 10, 2010 -- Deadline to sign up to create art
onsite during the concert.
March 27, 2010
2-2:30 pm artists planning to work on site arrive to
choose a spot and set up. Painters and those working
with any other potentially messy media must bring a
drop cloth to protect the floor at the church.
3 pm -- Pictures at an Exhibition Concert at Hope
Baptist Church, Rt. 202, Manchester. The ASO will
perform music by Brahms and Mussorgsky with special
guest Kinga Augustyn performing as violin soloist for
the Brahms Double Concerto. In the second half of
that concert, the ASO will perform Pictures at an
Exhibition.

NATURAL CONNECTIONS PHOTO WORKSHOPS
Again, I don’t have any personal knowledge of this company,
but am passing along this information in case any memers
are interested. Ledra Davis tells me “This is actually our
first year offering workshops. All of our photographers are
professional photographers who live, teach or lecture in
different parts of the country, and Canada. Personally, I have
been a workshop junkie for years. I loved participating in
them and now want to provide quality workshops at prices
people can better afford. All of our instructors (but one)
participated in and graduated from Rocky Mountain School
of Photography’s Summer Intensive, Advanced Intensive
and Career Training programs. We know how to provide a
fun and quality workshop, but at a much lower cost due the
fact we don’t have the massive overhead that outfits such as
RMSP have. In fact, our workshops are around $400 - $600
less than other companies and they are the same workshop
– 6 days, 2 instructors, fantastic locations, classroom lecture

and image critique, pre-scouted locations and instructors
that do not shoot during the workshop – just at an
average of $500 less per workshop. We are currently in
negotiations to bring on a few new instructors for 2011
that have great name recognition and have been leading

CACC Club Information
The Capital Area Camera Club was established in 1990 as a forum to share the love of photography and creative
photographic techniques, to establish new friendships, and to give talented local photographers in Maine’s
capital area the opportunity to exhibit their work. Club membership includes amateurs, serious hobbyists, and
professionals.
Meetings are held at the Pine Tree State Arboretum, 153 Hospital Street, Augusta, Maine on the first and third
Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 PM from late September through May. Everyone is welcome.
