MEET DR DANIEL FRIMPONG
Article by Chris Keane
There were congratulations all round when Dr
Daniel Frimpong, a member of CPA Australia and
the Institute of Chartered Accountants, was recently
promoted to become a senior lecturer at
CQUniversity Sydney.
Like other academics who teach in the accounting
and marketing streams, Daniel brought with him a
store of industry knowledge and experience when
he began lecturing in 1998. He accumulated his
breadth of industry knowledge by pursuing a
successful management career in the banking, telecommunications and information
technology sectors.
In the 1990s, Daniel rubbed shoulders with the big business league. He worked for several
major corporations including Westpac, Nortel and Fujitsu, in both Australia and Japan. His
former banking role saw him employed as Manager of Management Reporting in Westpac's
head office in Martin Place, Sydney. He was responsible for planning, analysis and reporting
on a $10 billion asset portfolio held by Westpac's Asset Management Group.

Together With Business” event organised by the Training,
Employment & Career Coaching (TECC) Unit on Thursday
17th June.
“It was a great opportunity to welcome these organisations to
our campus, make them aware of our students‟ employability
skills, and foster ongoing business relationships”, says TECC
Coordinator, Rodney Yeomans.
The networking function was organised to develop business
relationships with key industry organisations, promote the
employability of CQUniversity Sydney students, and to work towards securing future part time,
internship, work experience, and volunteer placements for our students.

ENVIRONMENTAL TIP
Cut back on air conditioning
and heating use if you can
Shakir graduated from CQUniversity Australia in 2006
with a Bachelor of Information Systems and in 2008 with a
Masters on Information Systems. As a graduate, he feels
he has “both a prospect and a commitment to commence
positive change through an increased understanding of
our business environment and the responsible use of
technology.” It is his dream to be “leading the way for the
advancement of new technologies in the field of
Information Technology.”
Shakir is currently working as Technology Support & Domain Coordinator at SAI GlobalEspreon Ltd in Sydney. He says that “CQUniversity Australia has given me all (the) skills to
deal with such a renowned and large company. My role is challenging, I have learned how to
push my limits and grow in confidence.”
“As a young IT activist, I feel that I have both prospects and responsibility to commence
constructive revolutionisation through our technology environment and the responsible use of
technology. In this sense, I strongly consider that I can use my qualifications and acquaintance
for the benefit of our corporate world and society entirely. Actually, with express advances in
technology encompassing every phase of our daily lives, the information systems career path is
one of the best outstanding assurances of a job for life. I am personally more than happy with
my study career and very professional career.”

2010), Sydney Library held a writing competition.
To tie in with the week‟s theme of Access All Areas,
CQUniversity Sydney students were invited to write a
poem, essay or short story about libraries or access.
While the standard of all entries was high, Ashish Rai
(pictured right) won first prize with his moving story,
Wireless Made it Possible. Commendations went to
Ginni Uppal for her poem, Library, and to Romu
Shrestha for her essay, Access to information: right or a
privilege?
Visit the Sydney Library website (http://library-sydney.cqu.edu.au) to read Ashish‟s story

STUDENT ASSOCIATION
On the first weekend in July approximately 30
CQUniversity students and staff „hit the slopes‟
of the Australian Snowy Mountains.
We hear they all had an exciting time on the
snow fields and look forward to hearing of their
adventures and seeing the photos.
Starring Delta Goodrem
Hating Alison Ashley is a coming of
age story about teenagers dealing with
their self-inflicted angst, their
embarrassing parents, their friends and
those they would call their enemies.
Erica Yurken's life sucks: her family is
an embarrassment, her acting genius is
unrecognized and because of her
name, she is nicknamed `Yuk'. So from
the moment the perfect Alison Ashley
arrives at school, Yuk knows there is
going to be trouble. Yuk has always felt
superior to everyone at Barringa East,
but Alison is everything Yuk has ever
wanted to be.
