the status of Stage

Volunteer of the Quarter
Doris Johnson
Meet Doris Johnson!
Doris has been chosen as the “Volunteer of the Quarter” because of her tremendous dedication to The
Humane Society of Genesee County. You can find Doris most days of the week here at HSGC just
“doing whatever needs to be done”. She is loved by the entire staff, and we are so grateful to have
her as part of our team. Thank you Doris for all of the happy smiles and hard work you bring to
HSGC….you are so loved!
A conversation with Doris….
Describe yourself…
“I’m married to my sweet husband, William. We have one son, Leif, and a
very smart and beautiful granddaughter, Ellie, who is 3 1/2 years old.”
How many pets do you have?
“We have one VERY SPOILED cat, Girlie, who loves to sleep in her dad’s lap
while he reads the newspaper. She has him wrapped around her little paw!!”
How long have you been a volunteer for the Humane Society?
“I’ve been a volunteer for about two years.”
How has volunteering changed or improved you?
“It has opened up a whole new world to me! I have already made so many wonderful friends here,
human and otherwise. It keeps me happy and active. I learn new things every day, and I receive
more than I could ever give. This is an amazing place, and I am truly honored to play a small part
in finding homes for our furry friends.”
We thank you, Doris Johnson, for being such an advocate and role model at
The Humane Society of Genesee County!

Happy adoption stories at HSGC
We love these stories!
realized is that Diamond
had been surrendered with
another dog, Fluffy. The
two dogs were inseparable.
That’s when they decided
there was enough room in
their home and hearts for
BOTH!
This awesome couple came
in to The Humane Society
of Genesee County to
adopt a little dog, Diamond
that Tom had seen online.
They had recently lost
their beloved little dog, a
Yorkie/Shih Tzu mix and
they were looking for a
friend to help heal their
hearts. What they hadn’t
Tom Reynolds & his wife Pat adopt both
dogs from HSGC
Thank you Tom & Pat
Reynolds...we wish you the
happiest life with your new
family!
Spring tips from Walt, our Cruelty Investigator
Summer is just around the
corner, and that means hot
cars. Here are some tips to
keep in mind:


NEVER leave your dog in a
parked car, not even for a
minute. The temperature
can quickly rise to lethal
levels, and cause your pet
to suffer heat stroke &
death.
Watch the humidity. If the
temperature/humidity is
high, they may be unable
to cool themselves.



Limit exercise on very
hot days. Walk your pet
in the early morning, or
in the evening to avoid
overheating.
Don’t rely on fans for your
pet, as they do not cool off
pets as effectively as they
do people.
Make sure your pet has
protection from the sun.
Gift shop gab... from Lin Holmes
It’s a great time to stop on in for
all of your new spring HSGC logo
apparel! Gift shop coordinator
Lin Holmes is excited about the
new spring line of clothing.
Lin says the clothes are flying
off the rack this time of year.
Each article is hand selected
from our high quality distributer.
“We’ve got new arrivals coming
in the first week of May” says
Lin. “They are very well priced,
with our logo t-shirts starting at
$10, and our comfy hoodies
beginning at $30.”
“It’s so much fun to hear all of
the excitement from our staff
& customers when we receive
our new bright new colors and
patterns for spring. I’m going
to buy some myself!”
See Lin for all of your logo apparel needs!
A doghouse does not
protect your pet from
heat...in fact can make
it worse.

Put ice chips in your pets
water bowl during heat
waves. It will help keep
them cool, and quench
their thirst!

Consider making your
dog some peanut butter
popsicles. They’ll love
you for it!
