marshmallows after a day of doing fun activities, like canoeing and archery. Pretty amazing, right? There’s just
something about camp that will stick with you for a lifetime. And if you’ve been to Camp Wasiu II before, we’re excited

CAMP MEET & GREET
New to camp? This event is for you! You’ll have a chance to meet our Camp Directors, ask lots of questions, see
our camp slide show, and learn about all the amazing fun your camper will have this summer. Presentations will begin
every 30 minutes. The Camp Meet & Greet is drop-in style. Join us for just a short time or stay for longer!
We’re also having a blowout Camp Merchandise Sale! Come stock up on camp clothing and other goodies at the
GSSN Shop from 10 a.m. - noon.
Finally, there’s the Vintage Exchange! Bring us your “vintage” cooking items (large pots with lids, large cutting
knives, frying pans, oven mitts, spatulas, cutting boards, tongs, and other equipment that we can use to cook over a
campfire). Please make sure your cooking equipment is still in good, usable condition! We’ll then swap you for special
vintage Girl Scout memorabilia (handbooks, uniform pieces, photographs, or even antique badges)...how cool is that?

Join us for our Open House to explore what Camp Wasiu II has to offer! Learn more about our summer camp
programs, have a camp tour, and meet our excellent camp counselors from around the world. Lunch is included for
all families who register by the May 30 deadline. You won’t want to miss out!
Please note that for the safety and security of our campers, camp tours are not available on drop-off or pick-up days
during summer sessions.
CAMP VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Make a difference at Camp Wasiu II! Any individuals (of any age!) interested in helping with Camp Opening & Camp
Closing tasks are welcome, and we especially love folks who have carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, or painting
skills. All meals and accommodations are provided for free. Come for one day, all weekend, or anywhere in between.
These are great service opportunities for troops and families! More than 1,000 local youth will directly benefit from

different obstacles. Some of the elements include the twelve-foot

HOST A CAMP PARTY AND BECOME A CAMP CELEBRITY!
Have you been to Camp Wasiu II or Day Camp before? Think other girls should get in on the FUN? Returning campers are
eligible to earn Camp Celebrity status by hosting a Camp Party! A Camp Celebrity is guaranteed to be photo-featured in
our summer 2017 Camp Guide. Contact [email protected] to schedule your party.
Step 1: Invite friends, neighbors, GS troop members, and/or relatives to your home to learn more about summer camp. Make sure to host your Camp Party between February 1 – April 30!
Step 2: A GSSN staff member will join your family and friends via Skype to share information about Girl Scout camp and answer questions.
Step 3: Encourage someone attending your Camp Party to register for a summer 2016 camp session by May 31. If that other camper has never attended Girl Scout camp before, you then get to be a Camp Celebrity!
Step 4: Camp Celebrities will get an exclusive photo shoot this summer while they are at camp.
Step 5: Look for your photo in the 2017 Camp Guide next January!
BLANKET FORT COMPETITION
We’re celebrating our 104th Birthday and Girl Scout Week with a blanket fort competition! All contestants will be entered
to win an awesome $25 gift certificate to the Trading Post (camp store) at Camp Wasiu II. Submit your photo by March 15
to participate!
Step 1: Prep by gathering all your supplies – sheets, blankets, pillows, cushions, stuffed animals, and more.
Step 2: Build the coolest blanket fort you can imagine.
Step 3: Take a photo of you and your fort.

Outdoors on the Go trainings and programs involve a Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada staff member coming to YOU to
help you have an awesome outdoor adventure with your Girl Scouts. A minimum of six total people must be signed up in

HOST INTERNATIONAL CAMP STAFF
Interested in learning about other cultures and countries? Last summer, our international camp staff hailed from Australia,
Ireland, England, Germany, New Zealand, Scotland, and Spain. We’re now looking for volunteers in the Reno/Sparks
area to host our incredible summer 2016 international staff! Hosting dates are between July 22 - August 6 (preference
will be given to families that can host the entire time period). Host families provide a sleeping space, meals, and daily
transportation to/from the GSSN Reno Service Center during Day Camp. To request a host family application, contact

RENT CAMP WASIU II
Turn your upcoming event into a great outdoor experience! Our camp rental fees offer affordable rates for Girl Scout
troops, Girl Scout Service Units, and non-profit groups. Individual tent units at camp are available for rental, so groups
are able to only rent the beds they need. Camp Wasiu II can accommodate up to 165 people. We can even provide great
meals and fun activities such as swimming, archery, stand-up paddleboarding, and canoeing! Find out more by contacting

MEET THE CAMP DIRECTOR
Stefanie “Fiji” Argus is a longtime Girl Scout, outdoor educator, and camp
professional. Fiji firmly believes in the power of the Girl Scout Camp Pathway to
provide girls and young women with truly transformative leadership experiences in
the outdoors. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology & Education from Mount
Holyoke College (South Hadley, MA) and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in
Adventure Education from Prescott College (Prescott, AZ). Her favorite camp song
is “Boom Chicka Boom.” Fiji is looking forward to welcoming you to a summer filled
to the brim with “camp magic,” singing, extreme fun, and new experiences.

Jamie “SLAM!” Hill started working at Girl Scout camp over fifteen summers ago,
and she is particularly passionate about outdoor cooking and high adventure
activities. SLAM!’s favorite camp song is “Taps.” When she’s not at camp, SLAM!
is the Program & Troop Support Specialist for Older Girls & Highest Awards at
GSSN. She has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education: Mathematics from
Kutztown University (Kutztown, PA) and a Master of Education in Curriculum &
Instruction from Moravian College (Bethlehem, PA).

NIGHT NINJAS
Be a nighttime crime scene investigator! You’ll stay up late to sneak around camp and
solve a whodunit mystery while everyone else is sleeping. Clues might be anywhere, so
be prepared to be stealthy! Campers will earn some of the requirements for the Junior
Detective badge. In order to enjoy this program, campers should be able to stay up until
10 p.m. without issue.

TREASURE ISLAND
Ahoy, mateys! Grab your eye patch and join us for a swashbuckling good time. Build your
own forts and rafts, look for hidden geocaches, participate in our counselor Pirate Hunt,
and follow maps to find a buried treasure! This program runs Tuesday - Friday. Campers
will earn some of the requirements for the Junior Geocacher badge.

GIRL ON FIRE
Want to be brave like Merida or fearless like Katniss? This program is all about “taking

This program is for the dessert-lover! This week is filled with making your own sweets:

some amazing s’mores...gourmet-style! Campers will earn some of the requirements
for the Junior Simple Meals badge.

HIKING ROCKS
Time to hit the trails! Explore nearby waterfalls, sleep under the stars, and check
out amazing sunsets on the Pacific Crest Trail. Unlace your boots back at Wasiu II to
swim, do arts & crafts, and more. Campers will earn some of the requirements for the
Junior Camper badge. Campers must bring proper hiking footwear and a daypack
to participate in this program. No hiking experience necessary but must be able to
comfortably walk 1 – 2 miles on rolling terrain.

WHAT SUP?
Come chill out at camp. Pamper yourself spa-style with homemade facials, pedicures, and
yoga. Enjoy some relaxing beach “daze” at nearby Sand Pond, too. Best of all, you’ll get extra
stand-up paddleboarding (SUPing) time at the lake.

PASSPORT TO OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
Prepare for the ultimate camp experience and head out on an awesome two-week camp
journey! Ride the rapids on a whitewater rafting trip and climb to new heights on a nearby
high ropes course for action 30 feet up in the air. You’ll plan your own local hike, too! Last
year, Passport campers backpacked 20 miles along breathtaking ridges of the Pacific
Crest Trail. What adventures will you have? Campers must bring proper hiking footwear
and a daypack to participate in this program. No extensive hiking experience necessary.
Campers will earn some of the requirements for the Trailblazing badge.

TRIBUTE TRAINING
You have been chosen to participate in the Annual Camp Games. It is time to master your
outdoor survival skills and build your alliances. You will learn fire building, camouflage,
archery, perseverance, shelter building, and so much more. Campers in this program enjoy
extra time at the field archery course and the new low ropes challenge course. Finally, you’ll
test your skills in The Arena and attempt to overcome the game makers. May the odds be
ever in your favor! Campers will earn some of the requirements for the Cadette Archery
badge.

BABYSITTING BASICS
Do you love working with kids? This program is perfect for campers who have recently
started to babysit or who want to prepare to babysit in the future. You’ll improve your
leadership skills, learn tons of new games, master the basics of First Aid, and even run
some activities for younger campers! Campers will earn requirements 1-4 (of 5) of the
Cadette Babysitter badge.

FANGIRL TIME
Can’t get enough of “Divergent,” “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” “The 5th Wave,”

You’ll plan your own themed meals and have an epic fan fiction creation session.

TAHOE QUEST
So, maybe you’ve been to Tahoe before...but not like this! With your camp friends, you’ll
check out the stone remains of the original Camp Wasiu, which first opened in 1949! We’ll
camp overnight at Meeks Bay Campground and then explore secret coves and beaches
like Skunk Harbor, where you’ll see old buildings from the Gold Rush era. Don’t forget your
bathing suit!

Design your ideal camp program! You’ll dream up your favorite camp activities and then
make your dream a reality with your fellow campers. Will you hike the Sierra Buttes or have

plan your own camp-wide game? Come ready to work together and have a blast! Note:

Mudbloods deserve to experience the wizarding world of Hogwarts, too! On your first day
at camp, you will be sorted into one of the four houses. Next, try your hand at Potions,
Defence Against the Dark Arts, and Care of Magical Creatures. You’ll even plan your own
Ground Quidditch competition! Who will win the House Cup?

ROOKIE LIFEGUARDING
Are you a natural at swimming and interested in maybe becoming a Lifeguard? Come
to camp to see what it’s like! Our certified Lifeguard trainer and our waterfront staff will

age 15 or above and pass the Lifeguard swim assessment and test, you can even be
officially certified as a Lifeguard! (Eligible campers will receive an email with information
on purchasing the official American Red Cross Lifeguard certification after completing the

Would you like to help younger Girl Scouts by sharing your skills, passions, and experience? Attend Program Aide (PA)
Training and complete one of the three requirements to earn the Cadette Program Aide Award! You’ll develop your own
leadership style and learn basic characteristics of younger girls, ways to manage groups effectively, and so much more. All
meals are included, and you’ll also get to experience awesome camp activities such as archery, swimming, and boating.
Bus transportation for PA Training is available at no extra cost. We recommend registering for this PA Training AND for a
Program Aide Day Camp opportunity! Program Aides must be entering grades 7-9. Full payments must be made during
online registration (no deposits accepted). Registrations are not transferable. $20 per person cancellation fee. Minimum
number of campers: 4

CAMPERS ENTERING GRADES 1-12 & ADULTS
Come to Camp Wasiu II with your troop and have an incredible weekend in the outdoors! Our camp staff will provide
meals and some of the daily activities such as swimming, archery (grades 2+), canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding (grades
4+), campfires, and more. Troops will plan and lead their own badge work, arts & crafts, and free-time activities. Troops
wishing to have a Bridging Ceremony at camp are invited to host their own event on Saturday evening!
At least two adults per troop for Troop Camp must be approved, background-checked Girl Scout volunteers. One tent
sleeps a maximum of 4 people. Girls and adults sleep in separate tents in the same unit (per GSUSA Safety Activity
Checkpoints.)

WHO CAN ATTEND CAMP?
Any girl who is in the appropriate grade for her selected session can attend Girl Scout Day Camp or Camp Wasiu II.
Girls who are not registered as a Girl Scout only pay a $15 membership registration fee.
ACTIVITIES
Depending on the age level of the camper, staffing
expertise, and weather conditions, general camp
activities may include swimming, canoeing, stand-up
paddleboarding, low ropes challenge course, archery,
hiking, arts & crafts, campfires, singing, games, stargazing,
and cookouts. All campers will receive a Camp Wasiu II
patch and week-long campers will receive a camp t-shirt.
HOW TO REGISTER
Online registration for summer 2016 opens Feb. 1!

sign in to your eBiz account.
• Submit the required initial deposit. Deposits are
non-refundable and non-transferable.
• Financial assistance is available.
• GS Bucks (formerly GSSN Cookie Dough) and financial assistance cannot be accepted as the deposit but will be accepted toward any final payment due.

REQUIRED HEALTH HISTORY FORMS
Camp Health History Forms are REQUIRED for all camp
programs longer than 4 days. All campers must have:
1. Completed GSSN Camp Health History Form
2. Proof of up-to-date immunization records
3. A physical/health exam signed by a licensed medical
professional within the past 12 months of the first day of the camper’s session.
CONFIRMATION LETTERS
We will send out detailed camp confirmation letters
approximately 10 days before the start of your camper’s
session. (This is in addition to the registration receipt you
will receive immediately after your camp registration is
processed.) Please make sure to check your email and
read through all the important information shared in the
confirmation letter!

The Girl Scout Cookie Program and Fall Nut/Candy
Programs help girls learn goal setting, decision making,
money management, people skills, and business ethics…
but did you know that it can also help send your Girl
Scout to camp? Campers can use GS Bucks (formerly
known as Cookie Dough) for:
• GSSN girl Resident Camp/Day Camp sessions (including Troop Camp and Family Camp)*
• GSSN Shop or Camp Wasiu II Trading Post purchases*
• GSSN girl level trainings and events (does not include outside community-run events)*
• GSSN or GSUSA Destinations travel opportunities*
*Each of the above GS Bucks options is available for the
individual girl only and is non-transferable.
All GS Bucks earned from the 2015 Product Program will
expire March 31, 2016. All GS Bucks earned from the 2016
Product Program will expire March 31, 2017.
CANCELLATION POLICY
For programs that require full payment to register
(i.e. Troop Camp, Family Camp, and other weekend
programs), there will be a $20 per person cancellation
fee. In the event of GSSN cancelling a camp program due
to low enrollment, any monies paid will be refunded. In
all other circumstances, any monies paid (less the nonrefundable, non-transferable deposit) will be refunded
only if:
• The camper is placed on a waitlist or if the financial
assistance amount requested is not fully granted. A
written request for the refund must be submitted and
received at the GSSN Reno Service Center at least three (3) weeks prior to the camper’s first day of camp.
• The camper cannot attend due to illness or injury. A
letter from a physician must accompany a written
request for the refund.
• The camper is sent home from camp due to illness
or injury. Refunds are prorated in such cases and will be made only at the written request of the parent/ guardian.
• Refunds will not be given if the camper leaves early for
any other reason.

CAMP WASIU II TRADING POST
One of the fun things available again this year is the
ability for your camper to visit the Camp Wasiu II Trading
Post (camp store)! Our Trading Post has clothing,
patches, jewelry, and other awesome camp-related
items available for purchase. Families are encouraged
to include a Trading Post deposit during the initial online
registration process. The Trading Post will be open during
check-in and check-out for each session, in addition to
during your camper’s time at camp. Any Trading Post
refunds will be given back at the end of the camp session.
BRING A BUDDY!
TAKE THE BUS!
The camp experience begins with songs, meeting new
friends, and laughter on the bus ride to camp. Have fun
with our counselors and start the camp magic early!
Bus transportation is available from either Reno or
Truckee to Camp Wasiu II for only $30 each way. Bus
transportation is available to camp on Sundays (and on
Tuesday for session 3 for summer 2016) and from camp
on Fridays.
The bus registration deadline is the same registration
deadline as your selected program (or when the bus is
sold out).
Camp is a great place to make new friends, but if you
want to come to Wasiu II with your BFF, make sure you:
1. Register for the same camp program
2. List each other on your registration forms
Remember, only ONE buddy request per person! While
every effort is made to place buddies together, all buddy
placements are subject to space availability.
