CONSTRUCTABILITY EKT 90 Inc. Information Package Page 2 EKT has always been relied upon for advice and expertise in completing projects, so much so that some clients have come to us in the design stage to assist in determining how the equipment is going to be installed originally, and for our opinion on how to maintain it in the future. We offer this as a standalone service or as part of the construction phase of a project. PROJECT - CHIP UNLOADING, STORAGE AND RECLAIM FACILITY DRYDEN AND THUNDER BAY This project involved installing two truck dumpers, a chip thickness screening system (CTS), two seventy thousand ton stacker reclaimers and four thousand feet of conveyor. Chip stacker/reclaimer installation. EKT 90 Inc. The scope was to complete the installation of all surface equipment for an 1,800 ton/day gold mine. EKTwas responsible for all of the mechanical and piping installation of all of the above ground (excluding the existing shaft and head frame) for the mine. EKT 90 Inc. The water treatment and condenser portions were located in an area where obsolete equipment had to be removed. The condenser had to make it to the 4th floor with no interior access, so it was lifted and transferred to a temporary monorail from the outside, and set into position with 4" to spare. Condenser being lifted into position through side wall of building The job included spooling and installing the high pressure piping, hydraulics, stainless steel water piping, and instrumentation tubing. Turbine and generator in position. EKT 90 Inc. The bark system upgrades included designing supplying and installing a system for handling and hogging the supplied hog fuel and delivering it to the boiler. The system was designed with the equipment operators in mind – from loading the hog fuel in the reclaimers, to cleaning up and spills, to maintenance on the equipment. The entire hog system upgrade was done on the run with only a short shutdown required to isolate and tie-in the system. The boiler upgrade involved removing the bottom of the boiler, and installing a Detroit Stoker Vibrating Grate system, along with upgrading the gas feed system. The ash handling system upgrade included new ash conveyors and a state of the art ash conditioner. EKT worked with Cook Engineering, Peterson Electric, and Alstom Canada, along with many other suppliers to complete this project. Completed hog feed system tied into existing building and conveyor system. EKT 90 Inc. We work around the clock to ensure the shortest outage possible. Our client’s have always been pleased with the results. Our clients on these projects include: Kimberly Clark (22MW) – Terrace Bay, Weyerhaeuser (24MW) - Dryden and Trans-Alta (115MW) Fort MacMurray. A turbine ready for reassembly. EKT 90 Inc. The standard practice was to demolish the existing vessel in place, and build the new vessel in place in sections. EKT was able to remove the existing vessel in one piece, and install the new 70’ high - 75 ton vessel in one piece, all with less than 2” clearance in some areas. All this was done while only taking the vessel out of service for 2 weeks (can be up to 2 months the traditional way). Capacity was increased by 13%. Installing the new vessel – standing it up before rolling it into place. EKT 90 Inc. The following is an excerpt from our brochure: Advanced Composite Bleach Washer Vat Alternative EKT Industrial Contractors and FRP Systems are proud to jointly offer innovative and proven technology to address the severe corrosion problems of bleach pulp washer vats in a cost effective way. EKT and FRP together will design, manufacture and install a new composite washer vat, replacing your exiting concrete and tile washer vat. Existing drive and related washer components are incorporated in the design and installation is completed during a conventional maintenance outage. A typical composite washer vat installation requires a stock-to-stock shutdown of 10 days, with work proceeding around the clock. The assembly portion requires 2-3 weeks on site and the design and manufacture of the vat takes 5 months. New fiberglass vat being hoisted into place. EKT 90 Inc. The vessels themselves were 130’ and 110’ high and fabricated from duplex stainless steel. The associated stainless steel piping for the process was extensive and the majority was fabricated (spooled) in our Thunder Bay shop and shipped for installation in Terrace Bay. The entire project took 5 months and was completed under budget. This is the penthouse of one of the reactors after construction. Hoisting of one of the reactor sections. EKT 90 Inc. The 14’ diameter bearing required 800 tons to be lifted 1” in order to remove the damaged bearing and install the new one. EKT worked closely with the client and the consulting engineer to ensure the project minimized the impact on the client’s schedule, and was done safely. Everything was taken into consideration including placing the chip pile in the correct position to minimize the effect of the wind on the job. Installing the new gear (above), and preparing for the lift (below). EKT 90 Inc.
