Hope everyone is doing well. It’s
warm, but I don't think it’s anything like last
year.
We’ve had a couple of big events
since the last newsletter. The first was the
World Ride cookout in McPherson June 24th.
Around 165 people attended from six chapters. I think everyone had a good time. By
joining forces with the Salina chapter, it went
very smoothly. We had plenty of food of
course and lots of good conversations. Bikes
came and went throughout the afternoon so
we had plenty of parking and shade during
the entire time. If you missed this one, put it
on your calendar for next year as we will be
doing it again.
And last but not least, if you see
Floyd Pearson, make sure to tell him
THANK YOU. Floyd was not able to attend
this year but still donated a lot of the food
and drinks as well as the use of his cooker
and coolers. Without him, Salina and Wichita
would’ve been hard pressed to put on such a
wonderful event.
Last weekend we went to OKC for a
chapter overnight ride to deliver the flag for
the Nation of Patriots Patriot Tour. It was a
great turnout with good weather. Everyone
did their own thing once we got there so
there’ll be many different stories going
around. I hope we can do more over night
rides in the future. The turnout we had for
this one was impressive.
So, with all that said about this past
month, let’s check the calendar for this coming month and get out and ride. We’ve had
good turnouts for the rides but there’s always

Hello PT HOG members!
Well, it’s August, and man, is it
HOT! Last month was the Nation of Patriots
Tour ride to Oklahoma City. We had a great
turn out and raised $620 for the Nation of
Patriots. Big thanks go out to Puddin’ and
Tammy for organizing the ride. If you didn’t
go, you missed out on a fun time.
Looks like there’s a lot of good rides
this next month, so come out and ride. I
know it’ll be hot, but we’ll take plenty of
water breaks, and it’ll be fun. So come join
us!

As all of you know by now, the 2013 Kansas State Rally will be in Wichita next year
and several of the chapter members are on the committee. For sure, they have a busy year coming up. We’re in the planning stages right now so, at this point, there’s not a lot I can tell you. I
think this’ll be the rally to beat for years to come. As the plans gets firmed up, it’s a sure thing
I’ll share them with you. Remember, it’ll take the chapters support to put this rally over the top.
I know we can do it.
So, as always, ride often but ride safe.

2012 Kansas State Rally Report

The 2012 Kansas State H.O.G. was destined to be a great rally with many celebrations
already planned for the weekend. For one, City Cycle was celebrating being named “Dealer of
the Year” by Dealernews. The #1 dealer was also celebrating 50 years in business, along with
the Junction City H.O.G. Chapter celebrating their 25 year birthday. And of course, the 2012
Kansas State H.O.G. Rally was in town, so let the celebrations roll, or fly?
We headed out to celebrate with the folks in Junction City on Thursday morning with a
first stop in Benton, Kansas for breakfast. There, we met up with other H.O.G.’s riding towards
the same celebration in Junction City. The planned route was to ride along K-177 through the
Flint Hills through Cottonwood Falls, Strong City and Council Grove. Council Grove provided a
nice stop for lunch at La Hacienda (Mexican food). We fueled and were ready to roll north
through the “Flint Hills”, on K-177 to K-4. We headed back west on K-4 towards the little town
of Dwight, Kansas, known since 1887 for it’s commitment to the railroad industry. The group
motored north out of Dwight on K-57 toward Junction City. If you have never traveled K-57,
you might think you were riding somewhere other than Kansas. The two-lane highway is nestled
in a valley with gentle hills, sweepers and beautiful scenery. Many of the homes along K-57
were built with native stone from the area.
All checked in registered and ready for opening ceremonies beneath City Cycle. What a
great dealer facility. The room below City Cycle provided shelter, cool shade and our location
for each evening’s activities. Honey Grant’s team extended the hours each day for those of us
who needed to shop. The local chapter and CVB provided dinner and, of course, the after dinner
traditional ice cream snack.
A little boy in front of me kept telling his parents he wanted the watermelon ice cream.
The boy’s parents kept telling the young boy they didn’t have any at this store and kept pointing
to the glass case in front of them. So he orders and sure enough, watermelon ice cream with
chocolate chip seeds. And yes, it was good.

Friday, our group went for a short ride and, with thundershowers in the area, we stayed
fairly close to City Cycle just in case. We headed south on U.S.77 to K-4. When we headed back

There were plenty of activities for all depending upon your interest. One group went on
the Ft. Riley guided ride winding through the scenic Ft. Riley Post ending up at Calvary Parade
Field. This riding group was not expecting to be invited to witness a special ceremony. Not many
visitors get to witness the “change of command ceremony”; the firing of the guns, the parade
marching and the mounted horse teams. Some traveled to Alma for cheese sampling at the diary
along K-99. Some others traveled the “Double Dam Ride” to Milford and Tuttle Creek reservoirs.
After the riding, it’s time for the bike games and off bike games behind the host hotel.
There were the standard slow ride games; bike wash, apple relay, water balloon toss, tennis ball
drop and the plank walk. Oh, and I almost forgot, the critter collecting in a fishing net while riding slow. We had several local teams in the bike games; you go Nichole and Kathryn, that’s

World Ride in the Sunflower State
June 24th, the first day of the new World Ride, was a typical hot summer day in Kansas.
Nothing else was typical, however, as an estimated 160-175 H.O.G Riders descended upon the
central Kansas town of McPherson to celebrate.
Representatives of H.O.G. Chapters from every corner of the state, including Hayes, Junction
City, Liberal, Salina, Topeka and Wichita enjoyed visiting and sharing H.O.G riding experiences,
while feasting on grilled hot dogs and hamburgers with all the trimmings before returning to the
business of the day; amassing hundreds of miles during the new two-day Harley Davidson celebration. Truly, a good time was had by all, and plans are already forming for next year’s celebration!

The bike games ended and everyone headed to City Cycle for the dealership party. Once
again, City Cycle went all out opening their dealership to our every want and need. City Cycle
again opened their large basement for the dealership party, dinner and biker bingo. “Just Call the
Number” was the theme of the evening. Dan Breci, Rally Coordinator and Phyllis Fitzgerald,
Treasurer were long winded and everyone just wanted Dan to “Just Call The Number”. A great
time was had by all and again, the rally committee offered a truck load of prizes. Most everyone
went home with winnings. One of our local H.O.G. officers managed to Bingo and WIN.
The Bingo finally ended with all prizes being awarded. We headed back for a late evening
snack and you probably guessed it, “Mexican Food”.
Saturday, we headed for Freeman Field (Airport) and the 2012 National Biplane Fly-In.

Good day PT HOG,
Hey everybody, I just want to say thanks to all the volunteers so far this year. We’ll have
a drawing again this month. If you want to get in the drawing, volunteer for something. I’ll need
volunteers in September for Alefs Open House, so think about it. Also, for new members, volunteering is a great way to meet people in the chapter.

We had met several of the pilots and organizers at breakfast each morning and today was
going to be the best day to fly; calm winds and warm temperatures. There were all types and
styles of planes; low fly-overs, triple fly-overs and of course bi-planes. We spent most of the day
enjoying the aircraft. It’s now time for a short nap and feet up.
It was time to line-up for the parade and enjoy a short ride through downtown Junction
City. Thor and Dan Breci were our parade marshals. Dan in full police-motorcade attire, Thor on
his company owned Road Glide. The parade returned to the host hotel and everyone headed for
City Cycle for closing ceremonies and entertainment. The closing ceremonies saw many more
raffle prizes given away and, of course, the “Kansas Rally” knife. The band, “Burning Sky Band”
played many old rock-n-roll songs and a good time was had by all. We weren’t quite finished
with the evening though. Our group had one more stop and, you guessed it, “Mexican Food”.
Sunday morning brought more decisions; leave, stay, wait, wet, dry, which way and we
watched the weather again. I am not sure how most of us used to function when riding without
instant radar and weather reports. Our group opted for the quickest route, with the most options
for getting out of the storm, I-70 to I-135 to home. Another Kansas State Rally in the books.

ACTIVITIE S
Hello Folks!!
Our scheduled ride to Dodge City on August 18 is going to be GREAT! Tim has made
arrangements for us to ride into Dodge at “HIGH NOON” for a “SHOOT OUT” and lunch.
We’ll tour the museum and have a blast. He needs to give them a heads up on how many, so if
you are planning on going, or even just thinking of going, please let me know by August 3 or 4.
In addition to the museum and a true “Western” experience, Dodge City also has a casino that
we’ve heard is fun. Plan on this ride, you’ll have a good time!
We have 3 other rides scheduled for August. A nice Saturday ride to Abilene (Mr. K’s
Farmhouse for lunch), and 2 rides on Sundays to Fort Scott and Elk City. Abilene has the Eisenhower museum and library that is a great place to see and Fort Scott has the National Historical
Site that has self guided tours. Both destinations are rich in Kansas history (in case you slept
through that class) and impressive. The Elk City is a pretty ride with a great breakfast at the end.
Lots of opportunities to get some miles in and have a great time! And as always, any questions,
