Dear ERG Summit and Convention sponsors, participants and volunteers!
Welcome to the 2015 NAAAP National Convention, ERG summit, and Recruitment Expo at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. We
are delighted that you are here.
Whether it’s your first time or tenth time to our national convention, we hope that the next 3 days will be inspirational,
eye-opening, and enriching. With deliberate and thoughtful planning, NAAAP has invited veteran and emerging leaders from
a variety of industries to present in our ERG Summit, Convention, and Recruitment Expo.
This year’s theme, Resilience: Power of the Asian Leader, focuses on the sustained energy that each of us puts into our careers,
families, and communities. Resilience is an attribute that is often used to describe Asians and we believe resilience is a quality
that builds great leaders. Resilience is possible with the three C’s: Competencies: foundational skills that build strong leaders;
Condition: personal health, effective relationships, strong families; and Community: creating better communities through work,
volunteerism, activism, ERG/BRG/employee groups, effective networking, and outreach.
We wish to express genuine appreciation for our sponsors who provide us with funding, guidance, and examples of making Resilience work. We also extend congratulations to the Dallas-Ft. Worth chapter and all of the volunteers who helped us
deliver a positive and unique convention experience. Let’s give special shout outs to our many speakers who have come to
share their vision and insights with NAAAP. We are fortunate to have as keynote speakers: Mr. Albert Shen, National Deputy
Director of the Minority Business Development Agency, U.S. Department of Commerce; Mr. James Sun, Entrepreneur, Publisher,
and finalist on The Apprentice; and, Mr PJ Singh, Vice President, Global Business Partners – Product Development/ Sourcing,
Macy’s. Finally, congratulations to our new NAAAP100 honorees, Ron Chang, Tammy Nguyen, and Albert Wong. Their
stories of Resilience will be told at our Gala dinner.
NAAAP continues to strive to be the premier leadership organization for Asian professionals in North America We build leaders. If you’re not yet involved with a NAAAP chapter, we invite you to reach out locally. Or let NAAAP help you grow your own
Asian ERG or NAAAP chapter.
We wish you a rewarding convention experience!

Welcome to the 29th Annual NAAAP National Convention, ERG Summit & Recruitment Expo!
The 2015 NAAAP National Convention Planning Team proudly extends our hands in a warm welcome to all NAAAP Convention attendees in Dallas, Texas. This year’s event focuses on “Resilience: Power of the Asian Leader.” Whether you are starting
out, surging upward, or bouncing back, resilience is a key to today’s challenges in research, government, business, family and
community. The National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) Dallas-Ft. Worth has offered our creativity,
legwork, and support to make this most memorable marquee event ever.
With an eclectic mix of culture, history, and a renowned selection of restaurants and entertainment in the city, the National
Convention Team and the Local Convention Organizing Committee is thoroughly excited to give you an authentic taste of Asian
Texan hospitality. We are truly honored to be your convention host. But it is you - NAAAP leaders, NAAAP members, corporate and community partners, scores of volunteers, and friends of NAAAP - who hail from every corner in the United States and
Canada who make the NAAAP Convention extra special and a truly remarkable event spotlighting our mutual quest of continually exploring and developing the potential in ourselves and in our communities.
On behalf of the National Organizing Committee and NAAAP-DFW, we would like to thank the hard-working Convention
Planning Team, our dedicated volunteers, our devoted sponsors for their financial support, our community partners, the many
distinguished speakers, and all Recruitment Expo participants. The annual convention is built upon a foundation of dedicated
and committed volunteers who have contributed not only their time, but also their passion in creating a successful, thriving event.

Personality, the Secret Sauce of Leadership
Stemmons Ballroom B
Albert Wong, Partner, CLUES & NAAAP 100 Honoree
How we think, communicate, problem-solve, and lead are determined by our personality styles
and the traits of those we interact with. In this era of "temporary teams," leaders and team
members have to immediately optimize and synchronize their individual strengths in order to be
effective. Differences among team members may result in communication related barriers,
decreasing team cohesion and team performance. Strong leaders understand how to leverage
the differences in work styles and allow team members to communicate and interact in a way
that delivers.
This workshop will explore how people can think better, communicate better and cultivate better
relationships within a team.

The NAAAP 100 Award, Presented by Buick recognizes the most exemplary
leaders in the Asian community. NAAAP, as the premier leadership organization
for Asian professionals, offers these awards annually to the most influential
leaders who have made significant contributions to their profession and the Asian
community. Previous award winners include the late Senator Daniel Inouye,
Canadian Senator Vivienne Poy, Superbowl MVP Hines Ward, and playwright
David Henry Hwang.
NAAAP members, chapters, and members of the public nominate candidates
for NAAAP 100 consideration. These nominees are reviewed by individuals
and a committee in a highly-selective process with final approval by the NAAAP
National Board of Directors. Typically, only three to four individuals each year are
recognized as honorees, who are celebrated at the NAAAP National Convention
culminating in a Saturday evening awards gala.
NAAAP thanks Buick for its continued and generous sponsorship of this award.

Ronald W. Chang
Ronald W. Chang is the President of UPS Capital, a long-time advocate for
developing Asian leaders, and a supporter of numerous diversity initiatives.
Mr. Chang has worked for over two decades at UPS, with an early role
in 1991 as a supervisor in Finance and Accounting. In 1996, he moved
to Singapore to become Controller of the Asia Pacific Region, where
he was responsible for a $700 million book of business, comprised of
twelve subsidiaries and countries spanning across Asia. In 1999, UPS
relocated Mr. Chang to London to become Vice President of Mergers &
Acquisitions, Treasury for Europe and Asia, where he worked on crossborder acquisitions, joint ventures, currency hedging, and debt placements.
When Mr. Chang was asked to become Vice President of Finance for
UPS’ Pacific Region in 2005, he assumed responsibility for one of the

and Intellectual Property in 2007 marked an expansion of his strategic role,
for which he led an M&A team to fulfill his acquisition vision while working
with investment banks and the UPS Board of Directors. Mr. Chang’s service
as Vice President of Strategy at UPS Capital in 2013 was quickly followed
within a year to his promotion as the President of UPS Capital, which
offers financing and insurance services to protect companies from risk and
manage cash in their supply chains.
As an individual of Korean descent, Mr. Chang has also volunteered his
time to uplift the Asian community and promote inclusion in general. He has
mentored and served as a role model to his fellow coworkers at UPS, helping to shape the company’s Asian talent development initiative and diversity
leadership program. In 2010, Who’s Who in Asian American Communities
recognized Mr. Chang with a Leaders & Legends Award for his influential
contributions. Mr. Chang has also volunteered his time and supported
several community organizations, including the Organization of Chinese
Americans (OCA), the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), and the National

Tammy Nguyen Lee
Tammy Nguyen Lee is President and Co-Founder of Against The Grain Productions and is
an award-winning producer and filmmaker, professional actor, and philanthropist.
Born in Saigon, Mrs. Lee fled Vietnam on a boat when she was less than three months old
and spent over a year in a Hong Kong refugee camp before being reunited with family
in Dallas. After graduating near the top of her class from an International Baccalaureate
program with intensive training in theater and music, she declined a scholarship to New
York University’s Tisch School of the Arts to be closer to family, matriculating at the
esteemed Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University (SMU). As an
undergraduate, she was a leader in several Asian organizations, and her short films Lunar
Cycles and First Slow Burn were screened in various film festivals across the country. Mrs.
Lee also reigned as Miss Asian American Texas from 1999-2001. Soon afterwards,
she earned her M.F.A. at UCLA while producing films and continuing her work as a
professional actor and spokesmodel. In 2005, Mrs. Lee co-founded the nonprofit
Against The Grain Productions, which is dedicated to Asian Americans in the arts and
has raised funds for orphanages in Vietnam and given scholarships to emerging Asian
leaders. Her documentary Operation Babylift: The Lost Children of Vietnam has won
numerous national and international film festival awards and has brought attention to the
aftermath of what has been called “one of the most humanitarian efforts in history.”
For over a decade, Mrs. Lee has made a tremendous impact in her local community
through ongoing charitable and civic efforts. Mrs. Lee serves as an educator in promoting awareness around poverty, Asian culture, and female leadership, with key roles at the
SMU Hegi Family Career Development Center and the SMU Meadows Alumni Advisory Council. In 2010, Mrs. Lee was honored with a Distinguished Alumni award, and
in 2012, she received the NAAAP DFW Leaders of Excellence Award. Her work on the
Board of Directors for Women in Film Dallas and her close work over the past four years
with NAAAP DFW have made her one of the most well-known and respected leaders in
the Dallas Asian community. Mrs. Lee lives in Dallas with her husband, their two daughters, and their miniature schnauzers, Oscar and Emmy.

About NAAAP and the Convention
The National Association of Asian American Professionals is the premier leadership organization for Asian and Pacific Islander
professionals. NAAAP cultivates and empowers its members and community professional development, community service,
and networking.
As the largest and fastest growing API professionals association, NAAAP continues to provide its members with the tools and
resources to further career advancement and to empower Asians and Pacific Islanders to become great leaders as well as
valuable employees.
In order to achieve these goals, NAAAP offers a diverse range of professional development programs on the local and national
levels. Originally an annual meeting of a few chapters leaders to share best practices, the meeting soon became an annual
conference with programs to educate and inspire a larger community. With the addition of sponsors and a career fair, the
meeting became an annual Convention and a Career Fair. NAAAP’s connection to various Employee Resource Groups (ERG)
as early as 2010 led to our first ERG Summit in 2014. The career fair component was renamed the Recruitment Expo in 2015.
Regional conferences organized by multiple chapters also bring excellent speakers and programs to the local level.
NAAAP also operates an online Career Center to connect diverse job candidates with employers. Since 2012, NAAAP has
published ALIST Magazine, which features emerging and unsung heroes in North America. To read or to advertise, see www.
Alist-Magazine.com.
After 33 years of service, NAAAP is still an all-volunteer organization. We salute the many people on the National Board,
National Senior Advisory Council, and National Administration, as well as the individuals who serve as Chapter Presidents,
Officers, and Board Members.
