INTRODUCTION

®
TheMagicTouch (GB) Ltd are authorised distributors for the UK and Ireland of sublimation inks
and printers from Sawgrass Technologies, world leaders in this unique print process.
The company market and distribute all sublimation related products under the DyeSubMagic®
brand. All ink cartridges and printers are supported with the relevant ICC colour profiles for
vivid colours.
Please note the printing of 100% cotton, dark garments and non-polyester coated products
does not work with the sublimation transfer process. Please refer to TheMagicTouch tonerbased image transfer process.
HOW TO SUBLIMATE
The following example shows the sublimation process to print a coated ceramic mug,
using a mug press.
STEP 1
Print sublimation paper,
in mirror image, then
trim to size.
STEP 2
Place & position
transfer on coated
mug & tape in position
using heat tape.
STEP 3
Using mug press apply
required time (140 secs),
heat (190ºC/370ºF) and
normal pressure.
STEP 4
Remove from press
and peel transfer
immediately for
outstanding results.
STEP 5
Submerge in water to
complete the process.
Mug boxes are

The following example shows using sublimation to print a polyester T-shirt using a
manual heat press.

WHAT DO
YOU NEED?
Sublimation as a production technique is relatively simple, it’s the chemical
process which separates it from any other form of digital printing.
When sublimation inks are heated they turn into a gas and sublimate
the image to the polyester based fabric or polyester coated surface.
The result is a premium full-colour, photographic quality image
that will not crack, peel or wash away from the substrate. However
sublimation dyes are not opaque therefore the printable items need
to be white or a pastel colour only.
PRINTERS
PRINTABLE SUBLIMATION ITEMS
Sublimation is an inkjet process and only
selected printers can run sublimation inks - due
to print head technology and ability to handle
the specialist ink. The Virtuoso® printers are the
sublimation printers of choice. Desktop and large
format printer options are available.
TheMagicTouch offer a range of blank printable
products. Whilst the process is possible on
many items we suggest that being focused on
items that are “easy to market” and “profitable”
ensures good steady business growth and strong
repeat orders.
SUBLIMATION PAPER
Sublimation paper is designed to absorb as much
ink as possible to ensure strong and vivid colours.
The papers are available in various standard sizes
and rolls.
Please note:
All printables need either a polyester coating on
hard surfaces such as mugs, metal, tiles, coasters
etc or at least 50% polyester fibre content with
fabrics such as T-shirts, polos, mousepads etc.
SOFTWARE
SUBLIMATION INKS
The original sublimation inks from Sawgrass are
used, tried and tested by thousands of users
worldwide, delivering reliable and cost effective
printing. Sublimation inks are unlike regular inks
as they are dye rather than inks.
Design and graphic software packages such as
Corel Draw and Adobe Photoshop that support
ICC colour profiles are perfect for sublimation
and are widely available.
TRAINING & SUPPORT
Colour profiles are also available to ensure
consistent colour management. As well as
supplying inks for current models, the company
also supply inks for selected previous models

specific requirements.
HEAT PRESSES
To ensure safe and consistent production
of sublimation items we recommend using
professional and reliable equipment. All
swing-head presses, which cover 90% of the
applications, are supplied with a heat platen
lifetime guarantee. The presses need to attain
and maintain constant 190-200ºC temperature
with adjustable pressure settings. Other
available presses are for mug production and the
decoration of caps and hats. All presses supplied
come with a one year warranty.
TheMagicTouch offers training in many aspects
of the image transfer business, these are held at
our training facility in Dunstable and are free for
existing clients to attend.
Customer Support is important to
TheMagicTouch, which is why we provide a
dedicated Technical Support team to help
with your equipment and transfer questions in
a variety of ways - via phone, email, Skype or
remote desktop software. Not to mention in

When sublimating products you will need to take into account variables such as: thickness, texture, size and colour.
Print your images approx 5-10mm larger than the size of the substrate you are transferring to, this allows a margin
of error when aligning everything under the heat press.
Pressing times depend on the colour intensity and size of each artwork. Please note that the listed information is
based on performed tests with equipment supplied by TheMagicTouch.
