WHO IS IE4W?
The Inland Empire 4 Wheelrs is a family
oriented 4x4 club formed for the
enjoyment and preservation of 4
wheeling. We consist mainly of short
wheelbase vehicles such as Jeeps,
Toyotas, Suzuki’s although we do get an
occasional long wheelbase vehicle. If you
have one of these, expect to go some
places where you could possibly sustain
body damage. We have monthly club runs
that take us from the deserts to the
mountains. We could easily end up in
the snow, rocks, or sand. As a club, we
are dedicated to the preservation of our
public lands and our family sport. We
welcome new members to join us!

The Inland Empire Four Wheelers welcome all guests to participate in club functions
such as runs, business meetings, Roundups, and social gatherings. However, we
would also like to welcome in our guests as full time members. As an IE4W
member, you will enjoy certain benefits, just to name a few; you will be allowed to
purchase plaques to display on your vehicle, you will be allowed full voting rights for
bylaw changes and board of directors elections and look toward some new fun members
benefits in the coming months as our membership committee builds new ideas.
The followings are the requirements set forth by the IE4W bylaws for membership requirement: Each
prospective member must be 18 years or older, hold a valid driver's license, be the registered owner of
a 4x4 vehicle, have the minimum CA insurance coverage, have their vehicle safety inspected, and
attend 6 business meeting and drive his or her vehicle in at least 6 official runs (1 being an overnight
run and 1 Adopt-A-Trail work trip) within a 12 month period. An official club run consists of 2 or more
club members (with the exception of monthly club Runs). Each new member must sign the club's
Assumption of Risk Waiver and will pay an annual $69.00 fee which is used for land use and club
events. Each year new land disputes surface and every off-highway recreationalist is beckoned to
help support the fight. So, not only will your lE4W membership be a fun, fellowship filled experience,
you will also be supporting your right to enjoy off-highway recreational areas for years to come.

President’s Corner by Loren Campbell
Being in the middle of the holidays gives us no better time to be grateful for the
blessings we have and the lessons we've learned over the past year. I think back
about the friendships I've gained in the club, and through the club, and I'm grateful. I
think back about the work we did on adopt a trail runs, the benefits of that work, and
when I remember how much fun we had, I'm very grateful. Reflecting back on the
success of Forest Fest this year, and knowing we made a meaningful difference in
assisting the organizations important to us makes me realize how lucky I am, and
makes me feel grateful.
This is the beginning of the Holiday Season, and one of
my favorite stories is that of the Ghosts of Christmas
Past, Present, and Future. They are all important; the
past is vital for teaching us lessons about what we value
most. Being in the present is where we live, that's where
our values are tested and our friendships flourish. Focus
on the Future is vital because those are the dreams so
important in determining the actions required to realize
them.
Join me in learning from the past, living today, and
dreaming about the future during these Holidays.
Loren
The Yucaipa Valley Lions Club 60th Annual Christmas parade will be held on Saturday, December 13th and
the IE4W has again been invited to join the festivities. It's a good time, small town parade and the crowds
love it when we "stack" all the way down the parade route. This year's theme is "60 Years of Christmas Fun".
We decorate our rigs for the holidays and have a great time! Christmas music is encouraged!
Participation in the parade is one of the few "Members only" events during the year, but all family and guests
are welcome to attend the breakfast at our house and watch the parade, then come back to the house for the
un-decorating party.
Jim and I will again hold a rig decorating breakfast at our home beginning at 8:00 AM. For those who haven't
participated or been to our house yet, we are one block away from the parade route at 34228 Avenue E,
Yucaipa (92399). We have a pretty large backyard and can squeeze everybody in. Jim will be making his
famous breakfast burritos, and there will be other breakfast options available, an update to follow closer to
the event.
Check-in time at the parade route is between 9:30 and 11:00 and the parade starts at noon, rain or shine.
We will ask for RSVP's closer to the event.
Happy Holidays!!!

Truth or Consequences?
by Jerry Burgress
An “axiom” is a word that is derived from the Greek axíōma (ἀξίωµα) 'that which is
thought worthy or fit' or 'that which commends itself as evident. In the light of safety,
these axioms are related to IE4W and our adventures. Think of these and how they
relate to off-road driving, then seek the wisdom of the saying.
“A rolling stone gathers no moss”, “A chain is no stronger than its weakest link”, “Don't
go near the water until you learn how to swim”, “Easier said than done”, “Every man
has his faults”, “Experience is the best teacher”, “Experience is the mother of
wisdom”, “Failure teaches success”, “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread”, “He
who hesitates is lost”, “It is best to be on the safe side”, “Live and learn”, “Look
before you Leap”, “Patience is a virtue”, “Practice makes perfect”, “Seeing is believing”, “The best
go first”, “There is more than one way to skin a cat”, “Where there's a will there's a way”, “You can't
win them all”, - - “Better be safe than sorry”.
An instructor –Gordon Graham taught me “If it’s Predictable, it’s Preventable”. So, in the light of this,
I want you to truly think of what “COULD” happen if you were to do something = BEFORE you do it.
Standing behind a climbing vehicle, “could” throw a rock from the spinning tire, or even break and roll
backwards before you can move away. DO YOU want to be that close? Standing in front of a climbing
vehicle may be just as bad “IF” the driver were to step on the gas believing it to be the brake pedal and
the vehicle is lurching out of control. Do you want to be that close now?
When something bad happens, we always think back and wonder
how we missed the warning signs, about the times we remember
when it’s happened before, how “History repeats itself.” How we
wish for a second chance to do it again, right. We see now how
axioms were born from experiences in history from events that
were evident.
What I want each of you to consider, before making a decision, before making a move, while running a
trail or watching someone else on the trail is this: Am I about to do something that might have
consequences, and am I willing to accept those consequences? The truth may be found in an axiom.
Please think ahead of what COULD or MIGHT happen IF, and then make your decision on the safe side,
for all involved. Please be safe and responsible.

Started up the gate of 2n17x about 8:35 no problem. about 1.5 miles in Coffins brake pedal
went to the floor. When I got back Bo had found the leak. Right front brake line broken at the
frame bracket. We crimped off the line with vise grips and tied it to the shock. I only had 1
can of brake fluid, so we filled it
but could not bleed it. running on
3 brakes we went on. At the hill
climb, I made my 3 tries but
didn't make it.We all went around
and onto the end of the
trail.Coffins and 3 others went
right back to the parking lot.6 of
us went left to hyw173. Aired up,
and drove to Gold Mountain.
Steve had to go, so 5 of us
started up gold at about 1.30. At
the step up I stopped with 3 Jeeps, one had a broken axle. They said they were ok and
someone had gone for parts. All of our group made it up without a spot! Outstanding! Made
little JB and to the Gate of JB at 2:45 3 Jeep looking at it but said they won't go. I went up
the gate with Todd right behind me.We went back to spot. A little
help and spotting everyone got through.
Tim's first time up JB. Great job.
Continuing on with some spotting in a
few places. No winching or straps.Over

We left camp early Friday Morning to a
beautiful Arizona Sky and headed to my
favorite trail, President's Choice. There is
an "Optional" entrance that several members
haven't tried yet so I thought now would be a
good time. Shortly after we put our rigs into
4-Wheel Low Teri was already cussing me out
as she wound her brand new JK Unlimited
through the very narrow and tight "S" turns
and down several tall ledges just missing
that bright red paint by 1/2". Whew, I dodged a
bullet on that one. Everyone followed Teri's
line and squeaked by without damage.
Shortly after we got into the trail we came
upon "Larry Long's" turn, named for Larry's
flop several years back. Each of us made it
down the hard left turn without incident
by Richard Mordoff
until it was our fearless tail gunner's turn.
Dick's Samurai landed his front tires down
and his rear two tires immediately jumped up
and right at the last second Dick hit the gas
and did a front tire stand for several feet
before the rear tires landed safely on solid
ground.
The next obstacle is the super "S" turn and
since Jim was already spotting Teri up as I was
walking back I let him continue. Next up was
Rick in the super modified 4-West JK and no
matter what line Jim put Rick on he would slip
off. After several attempts and a very tired
and frustrated Jim finally got Rick up to a
point we could attach a winch. Apparently
Rick's JK was having ABS problems and he
couldn't control tire spin which cause the JK
to break the line.
Due to time restraints, (The desert Bar was
about to open) we opted out of the middle
loop and headed right for the launching pad.
Each drove up unassisted with the exception
of the Samurai which only needed a safety
strap to keep his front end down and Ken
Ehlers who took the buggy line with the help
of a winch to hold the front end down, but
the drive up was all Ken!
It was a great day with friends, no breakage
or damage just awesome wheeling!!

Parker 2014 Trail Reports – Jerry Burgess
Saturday run on 22 Nov. 2014, starting at Copper Basin Sand
Dune BLM Staging area – CA side. Jerry & Kathy Burgess
leading, with Bob and Kris Yaryan. We explored and challenged
many of the trails within the BLM area that were posted for use by
our vehicle type. We drove through the southern hills and up
Copper Basin Wash to the waterfalls and swimming pond. After a
short visit, we did some trail work on overgrown plants hanging
into the trail and then made our way back into the BLM area
where we climbed the sand dunes and looped back to the staging
area. Run time = 5+ hours. Great exploration run, nothing broken
or injured.
Wednesday run on 26 Nov. 2014 starting at Copper Basin Sand
Dune BLM Staging area – CA side. Jerry & Kathy Burgess
leading, Terry & Bonnie McNeill, Chaun & Dani Goldberg, Scott
& Monique Chawick,
Rick & Tammy
Clay. 5 different
Jeeps, all 5 with
spouses. We drove
from the staging
area into the
foothills along
BLM trails,
through sand
dunes, and up a
very wet Copper
Basin Wash to the
waterfalls and
swimming hole.
After a short break, we climbed a nice 3 ft rock waterfall and
traversed MWD and BLM areas along marked trails for some great
views. We passed by JB's Revenge and descended near Snakebite
where we ended the run 4 hours after beginning at the Parker Strip
BLM area. No damages or injuries.
Thursday run on 27 Nov. 2014, after dinner night run. Beginning
at La Paz Campground – AZ. Jerry & Kathy Burgess leading,
Chaun & Dani Goldberg, with
guests Philip, Nora and son
Andrew. 4 Jeeps total. We
headed up Cienega Springs Rd
toward the Desert Bar, and
turned off at Gray Eagle Mine
Rd. We ascended a mining road
behind the desert bar to the
Eagles Nest Mine for a
beautiful sunset. We witnessed
the scary deep mine shaft,
checked out some stone wall
structures, broke out flashlights
to collect some ore samples
before we descended the mine
road to continue northerly on
the Gray Eagle Mine Rd for the
night run. Everyone did well in
our night driving along the
roads with out incident. We exited the trail at the gas station and
returned to camp via Hwy 95. No damages or injuries.
Friday run on 28 Nov. 2014, an exploration / break-in run for the
new McNeill JK. Jerry & Kathy Burgess leading, Terry & Bonnie
McNeill with Chris and Donna, Chaun & Dani Goldberg. We
started at La Paz Campground and headed over Parker Dam then
out 10 miles to investigate Black Meadow Landing located on
Lake Havasu's western shore. The landing is on BLM land, and
after being granted a 30 min visitor pass, we made 1 round and
saw all we wanted in 10 mins. We crossed back to AZ and down
Hwy 95 to the Gray Eagle Mine Rd beginning at the gas station.
The new JK climbed well up the first obstacle and we were off. We
stopped for lunch mid way and had time to collect some Calcite
mineral samples. Back on the trail, we headed up and over the pass
behind some slower side-by-sides, reached the Gray Eagle Mine ,
turned up a mine tailing, drove past a couple mines, swung by the
cyanide ponds before heading towards the Desert Bar where we
ended the run after reaching Cienega Springs Rd. No damage or
injuries.
Saturday run on 29 Nov. 2014. Our last run starting in La Paz
Campground with Jerry & Kathy Burgess leading, with Dick and
Laura Gervais. We headed to the Bill Williams River trail and
followed it to the locked gates about 4 miles in. We returned to
Hwy 95, headed south to investigate BLM trail BW377 which
runs east from Hwy 95 into the foothills just south of Parker
Dam. After a short couple miles, we found it looped back to 95
without significant challenges. We headed over the Parker Dam
and headed west toward Havasu Palms. This route took us to the
Dynamite Canyon trail (Whipple Wash) where we spent some
considerable time exploring. We found spectacular canyon
features, and a cave challenge near a geocache. We completed the
challenge, and then completed the loop trail. Once on the paved
road, we were quickly drawn to one final dirt road and up to a
copper mine at sunset. We completed the run at Strokes for dinner.
Damages = During the last week, I had suffered a sidewall cut that
didn't seem to be a problem, but parking in the right place today, I
heard the tire hissing air. Tire plug kit solved the problem. No
injuries.
