This booklet contains details about the current peripatetic music teachers who
are available at The BRIT School for 2016/2017.
It is provided to help you find the most suitable teacher for your individual music
lessons whilst at The BRIT School. Please take the time to read through all of the
information and then choose the teacher you feel would be the most suitable.
We make every effort to ensure you have the teacher of your choice, but please
note that in some cases a teacher may be oversubscribed. It is therefore
advisable to list two choices of teacher when you fill in the application form.

DEREK BAXTER
BASS GUITAR/ DOUBLE BASS
Derek Baxter teaches all aspects of bass guitar from
fingerboard harmony, bass line construction, sight
reading and groove playing including styles such as
funk (finger style and slap), pop, rock, reggae, blues,
jazz (walking bass) and country. Specialist techniques
such as soloing, chord playing and harmonics can also
be included.
Custom hand outs and backing tracks are provided to
maximise the students practice time and progress.
Derek also teaches double bass in the jazz walking
and soloing style, incorporating jazz theory into the
lessons.
ANTON BROWNE
VOICE
Anton has been a musician all his life, starting piano and violin
lessons in early childhood. In his teens he listened to classical,
heavy rock and folk before discovering so-called ‘black’ music.
He was guitarist and songwriter in the funk band Vogue.
When the singer in the band left, he thought he'd try his hand
at singing, which led to two years of voice classes at
Goldsmiths College. He subsequently enrolled on a post-grad
Jazz & Rock course at The Guildhall School of Music and
Drama. On completion of the course, Anton continued
performing live - now gaining experience singing as well as
playing guitar and piano – and was backing singer for Paul Young on ‘Wogan’ and Top of the
Pops. Later (having studied with speech therapist Dina Harris and voice teacher Mark
Meylan) he began to teach singing - first privately and then for various institutions including:
Jenako Arts, Lewisham College, Bermondsey College, Croydon College and The London Music
School.
When The BRIT School opened in 1991, Anton accepted the position of singing teacher and
went on to devise and write the BTEC singing module for the school. Other teaching
positions have included degree courses at Trinity College of Music, Roehampton University,
Goldsmiths College and The Academy of Contemporary Music (Guildford). He re-wrote the
BTEC singing module and gave masterclasses for The Academy of Music & Sound and for The
Royal Academy of Music.
In 2002 he was approached by the London College of Music (Thames Valley University) to
collaborate in writing the innovative Popular Music Vocals singing grades, and students at
The BRIT School have been taking them ever since!
In 2011 Anton was invited by the producers of BBC TV’s ‘The Voice UK’ to tour the UK as a
vocal coach for the Series 1 show.
He continues to be a busy live performer in addition to teaching vocal technique and soul,
r'n'b, blues, rock, pop and jazz vocal styles.

MATT DIBBLE
PIANO
Matt studied Music at The University of York, and Jazz
at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
He is a song-writer/composer, multi-instrumentalist,
arranger and producer, and has released six solo
albums as well as an EP. The album Around The
Corner - released in October 2013 - reached number
four on the Amazon Jazz downloads chart. He has
had radio airplay on BBC Radio 2 and 6Music.
Matt plays the piano, clarinet, sax, and sings in the punk-jazz band DOLLYman, as well as
with numerous function bands. These include Beach Boys Smile, considered one of the top
Beach Boys tribute bands in the UK.
He has composed many pieces including two piano sonatas, four pieces for piano, various
compositions for DOLLYman including ‘Poke’, ‘Jam’ and ‘Toast’, and many jazz pieces
including ‘Minor Mood’ and ‘At Home’, as well as larger scale pieces.
Apart from teaching at The BRIT School, Matt has taught the piano, clarinet, saxophone and
composition at The Sound & Music Summer School, Junior Trinity in Greenwich, The
Michael Tippett School and Rose Bruford College.

CAROLLYN EDEN
VOICE AND PIANO
Carollyn Eden (soprano/singer-songwriter) was born in Ashtonunder-Lyne and grew up in Leeds where from a very early age
music became one of her greatest joys. At eighteen she won the
Harrogate Young Musician of the Festival as a pianist and that
year came to London to study piano at the Guildhall School of
Music.
Om leaving the Guildhall she set out on the journey of
becoming a singer, studying with many highly esteemed teachers such as Mary Hammond,
Paula Anglin and Sally Burgess and studying acting at Richmond Drama School and with the
inspired coach Delia Lindon. She immersed herself in all styles of music including classical,
jazz, folk, celtic rock and musical theatre.
As a singer, Carollyn has performed a diverse cross section from early music to
experimental projects, including performances at the Handel House Museum, London’s
Waterloo Tunnels Theatre Space, the Brighton Festival, the Institute for Contemporary Arts
(ICA) and Sapporo, Japan. She has sung lead roles and written the libretto for two operas
by composer Mark Glentworth which were premiered at the Dulwich Festival and the Tête
à Tête Opera Festival. She also performs original material as a singer-songwriter .
Carollyn's teaching reflects the wide experience of musical styles she has encountered
in her own career. As a teacher her main aim is to give each student the techniques
they need to be able to express themselves fully and find their own individual voice,
whether it be through singing, piano or songwriting. Her teaching approach is very flexible
and she works together with each student to find out exactly what they want from their
lessons. Students can be entered into exams if they wish and Carollyn has many years of
experience in successfully preparing students for their grades.

London performing programmes blending music and theatre from 16th-18th

Biography
Jenny is thrilled to be involved as a Vocal Coach on ITV’S upcoming exciting series of “The Voice”
and also “The Voice-Kids” which will be launched in 2017.
Jenny spent many years as the vocalist of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, she toured
extensively with them in the UK and abroad, and appeared several times at Ronnie Scotts where
she is featured on many of their live albums including Cottoning on, In Control, and A View From
The Hill. She is also featured on the compilation album Nite at Ronnies.
She recorded the main soundtrack for the film The Brylcreem Boys, starring Gabriel Byrne, and
Jean Butler, and sang at the Cannes film festival, where it was premiered, she also sang on the
soundtrack of the highly acclaimed James Ellroy film L.A. Sheriffs Homicide.
Jenny filmed in Belfast playing the part of Mrs Croucher in the Spike Milligan film Pukoon, starring
Elliot Gould, and narrated by Sir Richard Attenborough. Other TV credits include TFI Friday, BBC
Hall of Fame, CH4 comedy series Barking, and BBC Looking Good, she has also done voice-overs for
programs such as BBC's Ballykissangel.
Downtime a dance album released by the band Playpen, features Jenny singing lead vocals on two
co-written tracks, playing on many ITV and BBC and CH4.
KEVIN KEATING
GUITAR
Kevin Keating is one of the UK’s premier guitarists and an
experienced teacher. Kevin trained under his father - world
renowned composer and arranger Johnny Keating - and
amongst many other styles qualified as a Classical guitarist
from Trinity music college.
Kevin has immense professional and teaching experience in
all contemporary styles and is comfortable teaching
everything from Rock to Jazz, Soul, Spanish and acoustic
styles.
Kevin has performed and recorded with many well known artists and has performed as a
session guitarist in many famous studios and venues including Abbey Road, The Royal
Festival Hall, The Barbican, The O2, Ronnie Scott’s and the 100 Club amongst many more.
Currently Kevin performs in two touring sell out shows "The Magic of Motown" and "Soul
Legends" and prior to this he performed in the West End hit shows "Zorro" and "The Rat
Pack" amongst many others.
Kevin has over 15 years of teaching experience at The BRIT School and has seen many of his
ex-students excel professionally. He is also Head of Guitar at LMS (London Music School),
Hackney.

BETH LITTLEWOOD
VOICE
Beth Littlewood was a junior exhibitioner at the
Guildhall studying cello and piano, and whilst there
she won the string prize. She then studied singing,
piano and jazz piano on the graduate course. During
this time she formed a five part a-capella vocal
harmony group, sang in the Guildhall Jazz Singers and
did a two year certificate in acting at
Goldsmiths. After she left Guildhall she was in the
indie/pop group Jim Jiminee, touring and making
television appearances and videos. She then left to
do a post graduate acting course at Guildford School
of Acting and Dance. Since then she has balanced
teaching and performing.
She has taught and been a visiting lecturer at Central School of Speech and
Drama, London School of Musical Theatre, Bretton Hall, Goldsmiths, Pimlico Special Music
School, Zip Theatre School, French Woods Performing Arts Camp (New York) and many
other institutions. Many of her students are now working in the profession as well as
teaching.
Beth has a technical emphasis in her teaching which allows the voice to develop to its full
potential within safe boundaries. She specialises in musical theatre and works a lot on
acting through song, preparation of assessments and auditions, examinations to diploma
level and general performance. She encourages her students to be independent and
disciplined.
Performances include work in music and theatre with Leitmotif Opera, Hampton Garden
Opera, Opera Europa, Opera Holland Park, British Youth Opera, Opera Lyrica and London
Baroque Opera. Theatre work includes Lady Booby in Joseph Andrews (at the Young Vic)
Moti Roti at the Lift Festival and Ralf Ralf at the Royal Court Theatre. Musical directing and
directing experience includes a production of The Selfish Giant for which she composed the
music, Dido and Aeneus, West Side Story and the Rocky Monster Show.
RACHEL LYSKE
VOICE
Rachel has been a vocal coach since 2005 working with
actors in film and television, West End performers and
platinum selling recording artists.
Rachel trained as a singer and composer at Chetham’s
School of Music before attending the Royal Academy of
Music, London where she was awarded a First Class
Honours degree. She is a session singer, arranger and
vocal producer as well as a Level 3 Pilates Instructor.
Alongside teaching technical singing and songwriting at
the BRIT school and Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts
she also works with artists signed to record labels
including Atlantic, Infectious and Tape Club Records for
recording and pre-tour preparation. Most recently, Rachel
has been invited to develop the new Popular Vocals
Syllabus with the ABRSM.
Rachel is currently completing her training with Annemarie
Speed and The Voice Explained to be a Certified Master
Teacher of the Estill Voice Model and she is proud to be
part of the award winning “In The Woods” music festival
team.

SAM MARLOW
VOICE AND SONGWRITING
Sam Marlow graduated from The BRIT School in
2003. After BRIT he was thrown straight into
touring with rock band Namaste throughout
Britain and Ireland and then into the studio to
record their first studio album Every Picture Tells
a Story. A year after the release of the album
they were signed by Crater8Records in Vienna to record a second album and tour. The band
moved to Vienna and spent a year in and out of the studio and then toured Europe for the
next two years. After having some success in the Austrian and German market and regularly
being played on radio and TV, they returned to London to work on a third album. In 2008
the band released an EP and played regularly round London. Since then Sam has gone on to
collaborate with many London artists and songwriters, working with them to improve their
sound. He released an EP of solo material on iTunes in December 2011 and is now working
on his first solo album.
With eight years experience working in the studio and touring, Sam has learnt how to
maintain and improve the voice when working as a professional musician or artist in the
music industry. Whether it's knowing how to look after your voice when touring every night
or preparation for going into the studio he can teach you how to keep your voice healthy in
this highly intense industry.
JAMES MORIARTY
VOICE
James is a former graduate of GSA and worked as
an actor for several years in the West End. He has
worked as an MD and composer for over ten years,
including extensive national tours of Barnum, Seven
Brides for Seven Brothers and The Canterville
Ghost, several summer seasons in Norfolk as well as
over a dozen pantomimes in and around London.
As a composer he has worked at Shakespeare’s Globe and The Gate Theatre and has written
song settings for several Shakespeare plays, Greek comedies and several children’s classics.
He has also composed numerous television credits including the BBC’s Arena series and on
radio has performed and musically directed classic serialisations such as the BBC’s Mill On
The Floss and Middlemarch.
James has been teaching regularly at both GSA and The BRIT School for ten years now, and
has had the privilege of tutoring many of today's West End professionals. His teaching
combines a classical approach to singing with a broader commercial style, as is required for
performing in today's musical theatre.
KEN SHAW
GUITAR
Ken Shaw has been playing guitar professionally for
over 50 years.
Originally a guitarist with blues, soul, jazz and funk bands he then went freelance,
working with many well known musicians including:

Ken has toured many countries as a guitarist including the USA, Canada, Japan and all
over Europe. He has also worked as a session guitarist on television and radio
programmes including The Andy Williams Christmas Special, 3,2,1 and Parkinson as
well as playing in a number of West End Shows including Time, Les Miserables,
Chicago, Grease, Me and My Girl and West Side Story.
Ken teaches both electric and acoustic guitar as well as banjo, mandolin, ukulele and
a wide range of other fretted instruments.
Ken teaches grades for students interested in taking exams with a number of exam
boards.
During his lessons Ken covers basic techniques for beginners as well as those who are
more advanced.
SCILLA STEWART
VOICE (CLASSICAL AND MUSICAL THEATRE)
Scilla Stewart gained BMus and LRSM (piano) at Auckland
University, New Zealand before continuing post graduate
studies at the Royal College of Music and The National
Opera School.
She has travelled extensively world wide performing
Gilbert and Sullivan, Opera, and concert tours and was
musical director for The Royal Shakespeare
Company. Operatic performances throughout the UK
include English National Opera for their production of
Death In Venice (Benjamin Britten) 2007, and Medea (Milhaud) London Premier. She
has performed at major concert venues including the Royal Festival Hall (Verdi’s
Requiem). For television she took part in The People’s Passion for BBC1 and was in the
Channel 4 series of Jeeves and Wooster.
Scilla is a mezzo soloist for ‘The Garden Party’ (by permission of the Royal Opera House)
recently singing with the Band of the Welsh Guards at Wells Cathedral. Recitals include
the Wigmore Hall concert series, festivals throughout the UK and a solo recital at the
Fairfield Halls, Croydon. Scilla has taught singing throughout her career at Guildford
School of Music and Dance, Guildhall, RADA, and of course at The BRIT School. She
currently has pupils in major roles in leading West End musical shows, and believes that
a sound technical foundation is the basis for a solid career as a singer/performer. Scilla
teaches Classical repertoire and currently has students at The BRIT School entering
Grade 8 ABRSM examinations, and Musical Theatre students entering Diploma
examinations.
CLAIRE TILBY
JAZZ PIANO, SAXOPHONE, CLARINET,
Claire has been a successful session musician and
live performer for over ten years. She can be
found most weekends performing up and down
central London with her Jazz duo Saxonvibe. Claire is an ex-BRIT School music student and
has a BA Hons Degree in Popular Music & Recording from Salford University.
Claire is a multi-instrumentalist. Although her main specialisms are Jazz and improvisation
she teaches anything from Classical to Pop/Rock.
If you are a student wishing to complete instrumental exams, Claire follows the ABRSM/
Guildhall Trinity/LCM Classical & Jazz Syllabuses Grades 1 – 8. If you are studying a
woodwind instrument and are not a beginner Claire likes you to work towards an exam. If
you are a student not wishing to take exams but wanting to learn additional instrumental/

GEORG TORMANN
VOICE
Georg has been a teacher at The BRIT School since 2001. His
wealth of experience as a teacher and vocal coach has guided
artists to achieve leading roles in London's West End and also
to the top of the British pop charts. Georg believes that
everyone has the ability to learn to sing and enjoy their
voice. Whether you are a complete beginner or already an
accomplished singer, your peripatetic tuition allows the
possibility of a lesson completely tailored to your needs!
The 30 minute lessons with Georg can (at your request) include:

Georg gained a Bmus degree from Goldsmiths College, London and continued his
postgraduate studies in advanced vocal development for 8 years at the School of Vocal Art
in Russell Square.
He performs widely in musical theatre, cabaret, opera and jazz, touring the USA and the
UK frequently. He is an accomplished Jazz pianist and has musically directed many
productions including Carmen, Company, South Pacific, Kismet, Cabaret, and Grease. With
his choir, the London Concert Chorus, he has performed all round the UK including at the
Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall.
He has been a vocal coach on Radio 4 and for Authority Management, who signed Georg's
student Ella Eyre in 2013.
ANDY WOODARD
DRUMS
Andy Woodard is a session drummer, producer and
long-serving tutor at The BRIT School. Here he uses
the acclaimed Drumsense teaching method to cover
all drumming techniques and styles of music, which
works hand in hand with The BRIT School syllabus.
When not teaching, he tours internationally with 80s
pop icon Adam Ant, his own band Spiderbites and
records drums for independent artists.

COLIN WOOLWAY
DRUMS
Colin Woolway has been playing
and teaching drums professionally
since 1976. During those years he
has done every kind of gig
including theatre pit work, jazz
residencies, cabaret and variety
shows, eight years with Suzi
Quatro, and every kind of gig situation from stadium tours with 30,000 people at every
show, to scout huts and muddy gardens ‐ you name it, he’s done it. He is best known
these days as the founder of the Drumsense teaching programme, and the author of
Drumsense books and DVDs, and has been writing monthly columns for Rhythm magazine
for over 15 years!
Colin presently teaches at studios in Twickenham, Croydon and Newport, and regularly
presents clinics, master‐classes and lectures. He is a long time endorser of Sonor drums,
Zildjian cymbals, Vic Firth sticks and Aquarian heads, Bill Sanders practice pads and more
recently Roland.
