In 1861, France sent a humongous army to invade Mexico in an effort to collect some war debts. The French army was larger, more prepared and more equipped than the Mexicans struggling to defend the road to their city. The war eventually arrived at Puebla. Against all odds, the Mexicans made a valiant stand and won a huge victory. It was short-lived, as the French army regrouped and continued to take on Mexico City…. but the euphoria of an unlikely victory against overwhelming odds is remembered every May 5th. Alejandra Cristo Leasing Manager It should not be confused with Mexico’s Independence day, which actually takes place in September.
