PAGE 74 OTP Dec 2015 Page 3 Issue No. 4 CHAIRMAN’S INTRODUCTION Welcome to the December edition of the 'all new' Off the Post, and on behalf of all the Committee, can we wish you and yours a very happy, peaceful and enjoyable Christmas, and a successful New Year. As the fixtures issued at the League meeting reflect, there's a two week break from all fixtures this year, with no league games scheduled for December 27th or January 3rd, though various County Cups or outside competitions may well see your teams involved in a fixture for January 3rd, as these are 'Conference' dates, and the only ones available for outside competitions, so please double check they don't involve you before assuming you have a fortnight off. Discipline wise, it's been another relatively quiet month (thankfully!) and though Darrell has called his committee together once since the last meeting, it wasn't in the 'Urgent' bracket, and his report is contained within. For those in attendance at last week’s league meeting, the 'News', for want of a better word, was that both myself and Vice Chair, Mike Ball, announced to the meeting that we would both be stepping down from our roles at the end of this season. We had informed the Committee of our decision after the November meeting, and made it 'public' last week, and though it would be wrong for me to speak on Mike's behalf - Mike has included a page on this within - for me, I think the time is right to step away and let 'fresh blood', with perhaps a fresh outlook, take control, and hopefully take the League forward, if not in a different direction, then perhaps at a slight tangent! It was way back in 1996 that I first had the idea of setting up a new league, mainly due to the frustration experienced by running teams in the Stourbridge League, frustration of their seemingly 'like it or lump it' attitude towards members and the elitist attitude of their Committee members. Convinced I could do better than that, and create a league that actually worked with and benefited the teams that represented it, I started canvassing the FA about creating a new league and in September 1998, the Bilston League became a reality, and one I'm extremely proud of. As a new league with new ideas, we were able to introduce numerous new initiatives OTP Dec 2015 Page 4 Issue No. 4 that are now taken for granted, such as cup competitions for all levels of abilities, autumn and spring leagues so teams don't have to struggle for an entire season, we were the first league to create an U21s in order to bridge the gap between junior and adult football, associating ourselves with local charities via the Charity Cups - we have raised and donated nearly £40,000 to various charities in the last 18 years, but perhaps our greatest achievement is to build up an association with our referee's to virtually guarantee an appointed referee on every fixture game, and we've done that for the last eighteen years! No other junior league - nor most adult leagues - could make such a claim, and the close working relationship developed over those years means our refs actually take pride in representing the Bilston League, they trust us to look after them, and our recruitment and development of young refs, to nurture them through those first couple of seasons, has been recognised and acknowledged through both County FA and the Referee's Association, and is something I take great pride in, and I've said on many occasions, the quality of referee's we can deploy - on a youth league - is second to none. Another sense of pride comes via our willingness to oppose the FA if we don't agree with them! On numerous occasions myself and Mike found ourselves in front of their Disciplinary or Sanctions panels, refusing to adhere to one decision or instruction or another, but if it didn't make sense or we didn't feel it was in the best interests of the League, we wouldn't apply it, and over the years this created a number of issues where we ended the meeting by agreeing to disagree, which looking back, creates a wry smile, though was bloody frustrating at the time! Without doubt, the creation of the Bilston League broke new ground in so many ways, and it continues to maintain the same standards it was created for, and if nothing else, it provides a serious option to the other local youth leagues, who once had a 'monopoly' on where teams were able to play from, for that reason alone, it can be regarded as a success. It will be a wrench walking away at the end of the season, but I genuinely believe, for me and the League, the time is right for change, and I will always be proud of what we've achieved together, and in the coming months both Mike and myself will be working with the Committee to establish replacements that will ensure the smooth hand over of our roles at the seasons end. Fair to say, it's been emotional, and will be even more so as the season approaches its conclusion, but I know the right decision has been made, and the good people remaining, will ensure our progress and standards are maintained. Graham OTP Dec 2015 Page 5 Issue No. 4 RINGING THE CHANGES FOR NEXT SEASON Christmas is the time when our wishes come true and for some of you that may be the case this year because after almost 20 years Graham and I have decided to call it a day and we will be handing over the reins at the end of the season. Fear not though, we will continue to ensure that the league runs as smoothly as always for the rest of the season. We have both enjoyed our involvement with the League and everything we have done has been with the sole aim of making the Bilston League the best Youth football League in the area and we will do our utmost to ensure that this continues. We feel though that we have taken the League as far as we can and that it is now time to hand over to a younger team who, hopefully, will have the energy and enthusiasm to take the League to the next level. Graham is finding that his work with Bilston Town is taking up more and more of his time, meaning he can’t give the League the commitment he believes it deserves. For my part I am finding that the League is taking more of my time and after nearly twenty years it’s about time I started to tackle the list of jobs around the house that Rose keeps reminding me about! While I am sure it will be a big wrench for both of us we feel it is the right time for the League and that a new vigour is required to take the League forward and, hopefully, build on the foundations we have set. We had considered taking more of a “back seat” role but as you know we are both control freaks and it just would not be fair for us to remain like back seat drivers looking over the shoulder of the new leadership so it will be a clean break at the end of the season. Looking back there have been lots of highs and a few lows since the League kicked off in 1998 and most of those highs have been at some of the fantastic cup finals we have enjoyed. I know I shouldn’t single any out in particular but the ones I enjoy the most are the Merit Shield finals when teams who normally wouldn’t have the chance to play in a Final at a ground like Bilston Town had the opportunity to savour that experience. That said the one that sticks out in my memory is the first Under 11s final between Perton and Codsall United, managed by a young Ian Dyer !, who faced a team called Kingsley Rovers. OTP Dec 2015 Page 6 Issue No. 4 The ground was packed out with supporters from both teams, there were cheerleaders and even a Lion mascot, all that and Ian had even arranged for the match to be professional video recorded. Don’t forget we didn’t all have videos on our phones in those days. What a great day that was and as I said we have had some many more since then. So how did it all start? After experiencing years of frustration at the way in which other Leagues operated it was way back in 1996 that Graham had the idea that he could form a new league for the Wolverhampton area which would be run purely for the benefit of the teams involved. After a frantic 18 months of planning, in 1997 Graham asked me to help him with the application to the Staffs FA for a sanction for a new Youth League and we drew up a business plan which was duly approved by the FA. Before the Bilston Partnership Youth Football League came into existence, Wolverhampton last boasted a junior football league way back in 1980, when the Wolverhampton Youth Service League folded due to a lack of members. Though various attempts were made after that to create a new local league in one form or another, they had all failed to capture the imagination and failed to get beyond the planning stage. So although we had convinced the Staffs FA there was a demand for a new league we knew that the hard work had only just begun and after the sanction for the new league was accepted we were able to announce and advertise the impending arrival of the Bilston Partnership Youth Football League. Initial response to the news certainly indicated that an alternative to the monopoly that existed at that time was clearly wanted. Created by the now defunct committee of Springvale Tranco Colts FC, and supported by both Bilston College (now Wolverhampton City College) and Bilston Town FC – hence the Partnership aspect of the name, the new Bilston Partnership Youth Football League was formed. Early meetings in 1998, to advertise the league and its aims, attracted as many as 300 teams, all seemingly wanting this new option, but in September 1998 when the League was launched, just 67 teams were brave enough to apply to be a part of this new ‘revolution’. Those 67 teams were spread over eight age groups, from Under 10s up to U17s, and in fact due to the lack of numbers the U16s & U17s merged in order to create a format that would provide a full set of competitive fixtures for the season. At that time the other local leagues paid little attention to this new ‘noisy neighbour’, convinced it would fold before that first season was ended, and they might have been right, were it not for the determination of Graham and his hardworking Committee and, probably more importantly the desire of the teams themselves to make it work. OTP Dec 2015 Page 7 Issue No. 4 Everyone involved was convinced that a fresh approach was needed to reinvigorate youth football in the area so it was important to everyone involved that this new approach worked. That the league not only survived that first season, but did so with a flourish that would then allow it to grow. That unity, that determination in our first season was of vital importance, just as it is to this day, despite member clubs changing and evolving and Committee personnel moving on and maturing, the basic fundamentals of what the League was striving for that first year remains of paramount importance. When drawing up the criteria for what we wanted the Bilston League to represent, we took on board the concerns that affected the teams we would be catering for, as well as introducing some initiatives that would separate us from other leagues, ideas that would give us a better ‘product’, and our members a better service. These included; 1. Referee recruitment and retention. We wanted an appointed referee on every fixtured game, 2. A high standard of conduct supported by structured Disciplinary procedure for all member clubs & teams’ 3. Opportunities for success for all ability levels, 4. Flexibility, the ability to change or adapt to any given situation, 5. Respecting and responding to members’ needs, enquiries or concerns. In all the above categories we have, we believe achieved, or even over achieved these targets, though they still remain our primary objective and will continue to do so for as long as Graham and I are involved and we both hope that these aims will continue to shape the league in the coming seasons. Mike OTP Dec 2015 Page 8 Issue No. 4 LETTERS PAGE Hi Mike Are we allowed to have team mascots at a Cup Final as I run an Under 8s team and I would like them to be our mascots at our Cup Final? When will the final be? Stewart FC Premier Under 21s Hi Stewart We like to make all our finals as special as we can so yes you can have mascots at your final, just remind us closer to the date of your final. The cup final schedule will be published in the new year, probably at the February meeting and, weather permitting the finals will start in early March. Most finals will be mid week, normally Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and, hopefully, all finals will be played at Bilston Town. Cheers Mike Hi Mike Sorry to moan but when I am the home team I make sure I contact my opposition and the referee at the beginning of the week but I find some teams don’t give me the same courtesy and leave it until Friday or even Saturday before contacting me. Frustrated of Coven Hi The Home Team should contact their opposition and Ref to set up the game by Wednesday evening at the latest and I share your frustration as I get a number of teams contacting me on Thursday or Friday checking whether the match is on because they haven’t heard from their opposition. All I can do is suggest that they ring their opposition themselves and put a note on the MRF that they weren’t contacted in time. If teams do not contact their opposition and ref by Wednesday they run the risk of being fined and may find that their appointed referee is no longer available. Cheers Mike OTP Dec 2015 Page 9 Issue No. 4 Mini Soccer - Under 8’s, 9’s and 10’s For the second feature on Mini Soccer at Bilston College, we will mainly focus on the Under 9’s and Under 10’s. Left to Right: Julie, Ian, Jane, Dave and Michelle Despite the recent inclement weather we continue to play at the College every weekend. The last few weeks have seen us focus on the first of our competitive fixtures. The Under 8’s have been engaged in a very tight series of games, resulting this week in two teams finishing on equal points. As we are not allowed to use goal difference to decide the final winners, this means that a playoff game will have to be arranged in the next set of fixtures. To accommodate the Under 9’s and 10’s teams they have been placed into two divisions, and as expected this has led to some fantastic games being played. The Teams that feature in each Division are as follows: Blue Division Black Country Wanderers Under 10’s OTP Dec 2015 Page 10 Springvale Steelers (Tigers) Under 9’s Issue No. 4 Lane Head Jaguars Under 10’s Springvale Steelers Lions Under 10’s Liddar Sports Under 10’s Red Division AFC Willenhall Under 9’s OTP Dec 2015 Page 11 Black Country Ravens Under 10’s Issue No. 4 Heath Town United Under 10’s Springvale Steelers Lions Under 9’s Under 9’s and 10’s Blue Division Lane Head (Jaguars) (U10s) Black Country Wanderers (U10s) Liddar Sports (U10s) Springvale Steelers (Tigers) (U9s) Springvale Steelers (Lions) (U10s) P 6 6 6 6 6 W 5 3 2 1 1 D 0 2 1 2 1 L 1 1 3 3 4 Pts 15 11 7 5 4 Under 9’s and 10’s Red Division Black Country Ravens (U10s) A.F.C. Congratulations to all our mini soccer teams, the spirit in which they have played these games has been excellent and all players no matter where they finish have clearly shown that they have improved through the development games, and can look forward to a second round of competitive games later in the season. OTP Dec 2015 Page 12 Issue No. 4 Christmas Picture Quiz Can you name these six footballers past and present? 1._________________ 4._________________ 2.__________________ 5.__________________ 3._________________ 6._________________ (The Answers are on the noticeboard on page 57) OTP Dec 2015 Page 13 Issue No. 4 UNDER 11s We should be well into the first trophy event of the season but unfortunately the weather has intervened and we have only played one round of fixtures. After the false start on 15 November the Autumn Trophy finally kicked off on 22 November and the initial front runners are New Park Village and Springvale Steelers Wolves. Hat tricks from Devarnta Jackson and Nathan Kabeya and strikes from Arron Balmer, Tyrece Wedderburn and Karmar McFarlane helped the Village to a 93 victory over Punjab United Sports who replied through goals from Ben Rowley and James Fairereive and an own goal while double strikes from Billy Betts and Nick Ngwanya and a single from Yahya Muhammad helped Springvale Wolves beat Liddar Sports 5-1 with Keane McCalla replying. Weather permitting the competition will continue over the next three weeks leading up to the Christmas break and I have changed the published fixtures so that the final set of fixtures will be played Sunday 10 January. These new fixtures which replace the published Development Fixtures are: Bloxwich Rangers v Punjab United Sports Liddar Sports v New Park Village The table after one round of fixtures is: AUTUMN LEAGUE 1= 1= 3= 3= 3= New Park Village Springvale Steelers Wolves Bloxwich Rangers Liddar Sports Punjab United Sports Pld 1 1 0 1 1 W 1 1 0 0 0 D 0 0 0 0 0 L 0 0 0 1 1 Pts 3 3 0 0 0 We can publish results of trophy events so the Under 11s have been included in the weekly report so if you or someone from your team wants to write a short report about your game I will include it in the press release that goes to the Express & Star and post it on the league’s website. ( http://www.bpyfl.co.uk/CustomPages/view/413). I haven’t yet had any under 11s team photos so don’t forget to send me your team photo (email to [email protected]). All photos are passed on to the Express and Star, who are always asking for photos for their “Grass Roots” section, and published on our website. Our Under 11s Coordinator is Chris Horton who can be contacted on 01902 825131 or 07988 190693 or email [email protected]. Chris will be on hand at the venue each Sunday to ensure that all the fixtures run smoothly so if you have any queries please speak to Chris. This game should have been played last weekend but was postponed due to the condition of the pitch and has now been rearranged for the 10 January. A victory for Sedgley will see them take the title but any other result will mean that All Star Wanderers are crowned champions and Sedgley will finish as runners up. Woodcross beat Punjab United. The draw for the quarter final has brought together the leagues remaining two representatives, Sedgley White Lions and Springvale Steelers Leopards although the Leopards will need to overcome Colron Colts in their delayed 2nd round tie on Sunday if they are to face Sedgley on 3 January. Report for 1 November 2015 - Mixed fortunes in the Bilston Town Challenge Cup for the Bilston League sides. Sedgley White Lions marched into Round Three, with an emphatic 12-1 win at St Joseph’s Colts. Despite Kai Webb grabbing a goal for St Joseph’s, a Joe Deakin hat trick, two each from Jake Deakin and Ben Field, plus further goals from Nathan Pritchard, Aaron Whatmore and Cameron Steventon, saw Sedgley put themselves into the next round. AFC Willenhall went down 0-3 at home to Silverdale, and All Star Wanderers bowed out to Wyrley Juniors Panthers, going down 1-5 at home, with Liam Westwood-Rogers getting their consolation strike. The one Autumn League game played saw Wednesfield FC record a 5-3 home victory over AFC Woodcross Youth. Goals from Callum Wellsbury, James Lucas, Ryan McCarthy, and a brace from Lemar Graham secured Wednesfield the points, while Hope Nkengo netted all three for Woodcross. Report for 8 November - The race for the Autumn League title is hotting up as we reach the conclusion of the campaign. Unbeaten Sedgley White Lions continue their good form and title challenge, recording a 2-0 win at AFC Willenhall, courtesy of OTP Dec 2015 Page 16 Issue No. 4 goals from twins Joe and Jake Deakin either side of half time. Willenhall held out well against a free scoring Sedgley while table toppers All Star Wanderers got back to winning ways with a 5-2 home win over St Joseph’s Colts. Cameron Sheldon and Ellis Dean struck for the visitors, but a hat trick from Maxwell Corinaldi and a brace from Mark Harper secured the points for Wanderers. The All Stars hold a two point lead over Sedgley but their rivals have a game in hand. Report for 15 November - For the first time this season the weather had an impact on the fixtures which resulted in all of the quarter final ties in the Jamie Mason Cup being postponed. Indeed the only game to survive was the first Merit Shield group game between AFC Woodcross and Punjab United Sports which saw the hosts run out 7-2 winners to take an early lead in the group. A four goal salvo from Callum Sedgewick-Dean, a double blast from Thomas Benton and a single strike from Kerim Ayas secured the points for Woodcross with Taran Sanghera bagging both goals in reply for Punjab. Report for 22 November - All Star Wanderers completed their Autumn League programme with a 3-1 victory over Punjab United Sports in another close contest. A double blast from Tyrone Bull and a single from Mark Harper secured the points for the Wanderers with Taran Singh Sanghera replying for Punjab. The All Stars hold a two point lead over Sedgley White Lions who have one game left to play and Sedgley must be favourites to take the title after they maintained their unbeaten record with a 6-2 victory at St Joseph’s Colts. Cameron Sheldon and man of the match Finlay Small scored for the Colts but a brace from Cameron Stevenson and goals from Jake Deakin, Joe Deakin, James Elwell and Ben Field made sure the White Lions went home with maximum points and their title hopes intact. AFC Willenhall travelled to Tettenhall Rock and after a very entertaining and sporting game it was the hosts who took the points thanks to a double strike from Frank Banbery. Report for 29 November - Only one game beat the conditions and what a game it was with the teams sharing the spoils in a ten goal thriller. St Joseph’s Colts travelled to AFC Woodcross and came away with a share of the points in a 5-5 draw thanks to a four goal salvo from hotshot Cameron Sheldon and a strike from Joshua Peabody which were matched by a brace apiece from Callum Sedgwick Dean and Kerim Ayas and a goal from Hope Nkengo for Woodcross. OTP Dec 2015 Page 18 Issue No. 4 TEAM & REFEREE NOMINATIONS NICE LIST The month of November created one of those rare occasions where, despite receiving a good number of nominations for the team & ref of the month, the number of refs mentioned in despatches outnumbered the number of team nominations! We saw thirteen refs commended, and ten teams receive a nomination. Those ten teams will go into our monthly draw to be named Ron Flowers' Team of the Month winners, receiving the Team of the Month trophy - returnable at the January meeting, and a voucher for a new match ball, redeemable at Ron Flowers' Sports shop in Wolverhampton. At the end of the season all nominated teams, provided they have not accrued any penalty points, will be entered into a draw for the Roger Stanton Fair Play Award. This season in addition to receiving the Trophy the winning team will also receive a full kit provided by Genesis Sports. OTP Dec 2015 Page 20 Issue No. 4 UNDER 13s There has been a fair amount of disruption to the fixtures this season. We lost two teams, Emerald and Willenhall United, just before the start of the season and then lost Heath Town United and Liddar Sports just after the season started. When Liddar withdrew to ensure there would be sufficient fixtures for the season we introduced a Super League involving all teams. However it is clear from the first five Super League games played so far that the gulf in ability between teams is too great to make this a viable competition. This has been exacerbated by Springvale Lions folding. Our aim as always is to provide a full season of competitive fixtures and it is clear that whilst the Super League would provide each team with ten fixtures there would be too many uncompetitive one sided gamed which is not helpful to either team involved. We did receive an enquiry from an Under 13s team from another league who were interested in moving over in the new year however, while the team themselves are still keen to move their club have quite rightly said that they must honour their commitment to that league for the rest of the season and should only consider moving leagues after the season ends. Whilst this would have given us an extra team it was apparent that they would have only been suitable to join the First Division. This leaves us with eleven teams for the remainder of the season and at a meeting with all Under 13s teams on 6 December it was decided to cancel the Super League and replace it with a Spring League Premier and First Divisions. However, whilst, weather permitting, all but one of the Premier Division fixtures will have been completed by 10 January there will be nine outstanding First Division fixtures so it is unlikely that the promotion spots will be have resolved. This means that if we wait until the First Division fixtures are completed we would not be able to start the Spring Leagues until well into February. That said, based on results to date the most likely scenario is that Punjab United and Coven United will take the top two places so we could agree a spring league format based on that assumption. The Spring League would involve 10 weeks of league fixture and excluding Easter Sunday there are 14 Sundays between 17 January and the end of April so we would need to start the Spring League as soon as possible if we are to avoid a significant number of mid week games. At the meeting the Under 13s teams agreed to the following Spring League Divisions: OTP Dec 2015 Page 21 Issue No. 4 Premier Division Coven United New Park Village Punjab United Sedgley White Lions Springvale Steelers Pumas Wednesbury Sports Union First Division Druid F.C. F.C. Perton St Joseph’s Colts Springvale Steelers Cougars Wednesfield & Woodend RBL In addition to completing the Autumn League fixtures teams will play each other home and away in the Spring League, providing a further 8/10 fixtures. To provide extra fixtures we will also hold a group based charity cup. This will involve the teams being allocated randomly to three groups, two groups will have four teams and one group three teams. The runners up from the two larger groups will play off to decide which team will join the group winners in the semi finals. We will also hold Divisional knock out cup competitions for the Spring League Divisions and, weather permitting, we will explore the possibility of holding a traditional Merit Shield competition towards the end of the season. On the footballing side going into last weekend Sedgley White Lions continued to top the Premier Division table, five points ahead of New Park Village and Springvale Pumas but they both have a game in hand although the 1-1 draw between the Village and Pumas put a big dent in both teams’ title aspirations. Wednesbury Sports Union picked up their first league points with a victory at FC Perton leaving Perton still looking for some success in the Premier Division. Punjab United have opened up a seven point cushion at the top of the First Division although Druid in second spot have a game in hand but the real threat to Punjab are Coven United who have three games in hand over Punjab in which to make up the nine point deficit and it is likely that the game between Punjab and Coven will determine the destination of the champion’s trophy. St Joseph’s Colts and Wednesfield RBL have both picked up victories leaving a revamped Springvale Cougars still looking for their first league points of the season. Premier Division 1. 2=. 2=. 4. 5. The other semi sees Springvale Pumas, 4-0 winners at Wednesbury Sports Union, entertain New Park Village, who despatched St Joseph’s Colts in the quarters. The Premier Division Cup Final will see New Park Village take on Springvale Pumas after the Pumas impressive 5-3 semi final victory over Sedgley White Lions while the First Division Final will be between Punjab United and Coven United after Coven overcame Wednesfield RBL in the quarter finals. The Bilston League are well represented in the forthcoming quarter finals of the Bilston Town Challenge Cup where Coven United entertain Bewdley Town while Springvale Pumas host Wightwick Warriors and FC Perton are visited by Trysull Tigers East while Sedgley White Lions entertain Trysull Tigers West and we wish all our teams every success in the competition. WEEKLY REPORTS Report for 1 November 2015 A decent return from the Bilston League teams competing in the Bilston Town Challenge Cup, while Wednesfield & Wood End RBL went down at home to Wightwick Warriors, 0-4, and Druid FC lost out to League colleagues FC Perton, 2-4, there was success for Coven United, Sedgley White Lions and Springvale Pumas. In the all Bilston clash, goals from Ethan Jones, Alex Staley, Ben Daily and Josh Li earned FC Perton a 4-2 home win over Druid, with Derry Peeler and Josh Smith on target for the visitors. Coven United travelled to Stourbridge Juniors, where a brace from Patrick Ngove and a third goal from Andrew Rhodes secured a 3-1 victory. Springvale Pumas also enjoyed an away day victory, 9-1 winners at Wyrley Juniors Lions, the goals coming from Ravinder Singh, Chad Smith, Jack Snoddy, Jay Beasley, Josh Lewis, James Guest and a Brandon Sellick hat trick. Big winners of the day though were Sedgley White Lions, who recorded a 20-0 home win over Tipton Town Lions. Tierre Lindo-McKenzie, Harry Smith and Kieran Gelder each helped themselves to four goals, Dennis Okoduwa added a brace, completed by singles from Kyle Hodgkinson, Harvey Cooper, Dan Hickman, Dan Cresswell, George Stones and Jack Merrick. As well as the Cup ties, we saw two league fixtures. In the Premier Division, New Park Village returned from Wednesbury Sports Union with all three points, following an 8-2 victory. Amari Williams, Kieron Pichart, Tyrese Johnson and Dante Hawthorne each netting a brace, while Lachian Clemmens and Cassius Johnson replied for Wednesbury. In Division One, Punjab United hit four without reply at St Joseph’s Colts. A brace from Taylor Hocking and strikes from Jai Aaron Banga and Munrajan Rai securing a 4-0 victory. Report for 8 November 2015 In the Jennie Chapman League Cup, Springvale Pumas progress into Round Three, after two goals from Jack Snoddy and singles from Brandon Sellick and Chad Smith secured a 4-0 victory at Wednesbury Sports Union. OTP Dec 2015 Page 23 Issue No. 4 In the Under 13s Super League, seven appeared the magic number, with New Park Village enjoying a 7-1 home win over St Joseph’s Colts, with Dante Hawthorne grabbing a hat trick, and both Tyreece Johnson and Amari Ebanks-Williams getting a brace apiece. Cameron Garner netted for the Saints. FC Perton also bagged seven, without reply, away to Springvale Cougars, Alex Staley and Guiliame Thomas netting a brace apiece, with further goals coming from Ethan Jones, Ben Dailly and Joshua Blake. In the First Division we saw another two 7-0 score lines. In the top of the table clash Punjab United entertained Druid FC, and sent them packing with a 7-0 victory, with Arjan Singh Gill grabbing a hat trick, the other goals coming from Jai Aaron Banga, Jayden Bogle, Paveneer Singh Andhey and Taylor Cocking. Third placed Coven United maintained their unbeaten record by beating Wednesfield & Wood End RBL 7-0, with Patrick Ngove hitting a hat trick, Kye Blenheim adding a brace, and Rafael Bandarrinha-Almedia and Andrew Rhodes completing the scoring Report for 15 November 2015 Springvale Pumas will face New Park Village in the final of the Premier Division Cup after they survived an exciting contest with Sedgley White Lions. The Pumas took the lead with a well taken goal from Brandon Sellick but the lead was short lived as Sedgley were back on level terms just a minute later with a strike from Harvey Cooper. After a brilliant move Chad Smith restored the Pumas advantage. Sedgley bounced back and a second goal from Harvey Cooper put them level going into the break. The second half was equally as exciting as the first and it was the Pumas who struck first when Brandon Sellick shot over the keeper after a fine solo run to bag his second of the game and give the Pumas the lead. The Pumas extended their lead when Josh Lewis poked the ball over the line after a scramble in the box. Sedgley pressed hard and were rewarded with a third goal from a strike by Tierre McKenzie. Sedgley continued to press for an equaliser but a 25 yard screamer from Jake Edwards just minutes from time put the game to bed and ensured the Pumas progressed to the final with a 5-3 victory. In the Super League New Park Village came away from Druid F.C. with the points after a 12-1 victory made it two wins out of two. Jordan Aldridge bagged a consolation for Druid. In the Premier Division there was also an away day victory for Wednesbury Sports Union when they travelled to FC Perton, picking up their first points of the campaign with an impressive 7-0 victory. Cassius Johnson and Joshua Harris bagged a brace apiece with strikes from Dempsey Dukes, Reno Velleanie and Louis Cushley competing the scoring for the Union. Punjab United Sports extended their lead at the top of the First Division after a 5-1 victory over a revamped Springvale Cougars. Jaiden Hurlin was on target for the visitors but a double strike from Jai Banga and singles from Jayden Bogle, Saavan Singh Khosa and Kymani Webster secured the points for the league leaders. Wednesfield & Woodend RBL picked up their first points of the campaign with a 3-0 victory at St Joseph’s Colts. OTP Dec 2015 Page 24 Issue No. 4 Report for 22 November 2015 The delayed First Division Cup Final between Wednesfield & Woodend RBL and Coven United saw Coven progress to the final where they will face Punjab United Sports. A double strike from Patrick Ngove and singles from Andrew Rhodes and Kye Blenheim secured the 4-0 victory for the visitors. In the top of the table clash in the Premier Division Sedgley White Lions were victorious over visitors New Park Village, winning by a 6 – 1 score line. The game was a real spectacle as play switched from end to end as both teams battled to get on top. Sedgley took an early lead when Tierre Lindo-McKenzie broke clear of his marker after being played in by Jack Merrick and slid the ball home. Soon afterwards Jack Merricks corner was powered home by Harvey Cooper with a bullet header. Just before the interval break Sedgley worked the ball from one end of the pitch to the other care of Harry Smith and Harvey Cooper who teed up Dan Cresswell to crash the ball into the roof of the net. The half time score didn’t reflect how well New Park had played and they started the second half the better team but Sedgley caught them on the counter attack and Dan Creswell converted from close range. New Park reduced the arrears with a well placed Connor Benton penalty and the result was back in the balance but Sedgley ensured victory with further goals from Jack Merrick and Harvey Cooper to open up a three point lead at the top of the table although their title rivals New Park Village and Springvale Pumas both have a game in hand, The Pumas kept their title challenge alive with a narrow 3-2 victory at Wednesbury Sports Union. Lachlan Clemmens and Kyle Brookes were on target for the Union but it wasn’t quite enough as goals from Jack Beddow, Chad Smith and Joshua Kilford secured the points for the Pumas. In the Super League a four goal salvo from Alex Staley, a treble from Razza Jalloh and strikes from Ethan Jones, Ben Daly and Josh Li helped FC Perton overcome visitors St Joseph’s Colts 10-0. Report for 29 November 2015 In the Premier Division leaders Sedgley White Lions beat FC Perton 10-2 but despite the score line this was a thoroughly entertaining match of end to end football played in a tremendous spirt. Sedgley took the lead when Tierre Lindo-McKenzie broke clear and netted from close range and doubled their advantage when Harvey Cooper slotted home from 10 yards out. Perton replied hitting Sedgley on the counter attack with a well taken goal from Caden Round. Sedgley bounced back and raced to a 5 – 1 lead care of goals from Dan Hickman, Harvey Cooper and a thunderbolt from fully 30 yards out from Alfie Jacques. Perton wouldn’t lie down and were rewarded with a goal from Ethan Jones. Sedgley goalie Joel Adderley made a couple of good saves and Callum Parkes the Perton keeper, who was a clear man of the match, made a string of outstanding saves. In the second half Sedgley added further goals from Juan Piara, Dan Hickman, Harvey Cooper (2) and Kieran Gelder to finish 10 – 2 victors but on another day if Perton had taken their chances the result would have been a lot closer. The other Premier game was a thrilling tie between New Park Village and Springvale Pumas, with honours ending even, the game ending 1-1, after a new Park Village goal from Amari Ebanks-Williams was cancelled out by a Pumas strike from Brandon Sellick. OTP Dec 2015 Page 27 Issue No. 4 UNDER 15s Congratulations to St Joseph’s Saints who remained undefeated during the Autumn campaign to be crowned Second Division Champions. I’m sure Roger Stanton would have been very proud of you. The Saints will be joined in the First Division by Silverdale Eagles who finished as runners up, four points ahead of third placed Woden. Wyrley Juniors can leapfrog Woden into fourth spot if they win their final Autumn League game against Heath Town United. It’s been a great autumn for the St Joseph’s stable as the Colts currently top the First Division and, having completed their fixtures, are guaranteed promotion but will have to wait for the outcome of the final game between Black Country Ravens and Ashmore Park Rangers before they will know whether they will be collecting winners or runners up medals. This game has been rearranged for Sunday 20 December and will replace the scheduled Merit Shield game between these two sides. Sedgley White Lions, who have also completed their fixtures, currently sit in second place just one point behind St Joseph’s and one point above APR with Black Country Ravens one point further adrift. So if APR beat the Ravens then APR will be champions and St Joseph’s runners up while a victory for the Ravens will see them finish level with the Colts and we will need a play off to determine who are crowned champions. A draw between APR and Black Country will hand the title to St Joseph’s and will mean a play off between Sedgley and APR for the runners up trophy. A very exciting end to the Autumn campaign. At the other end of the table Lane Head Colts, who have had a torrid time of late but have bravely soldiered on, playing with minimal players, have been relegated to the Second Division while, sadly we saw the demise of Parkfield Panthers who resigned from the league due to a lack of players once they had completed their First Division commitments. It’s even more complicated in the Premier Division where current leaders Old Wulfs North have completed their fixtures but are just one point ahead of Rostance Edwards, who have yet to play Darlaston Town after their game was postponed last Sunday. This game has been rearranged for 10 January. Silverdale Spartans, with three games to play, are in joint third place with New Park Village, who have two games left, and are just three points behind Rostance. So the game between these to, which was postponed last Sunday will be crucial to determining the shape of the final league table. This game has been rearranged for 10 January and will replace the scheduled Merit Shield game between these two teams. The Spartans and New Park also have yet to play Old Wulfs South who have four games to play and, could finish in the top two if they win all of their remaining games so the permutations and possibilities are too great to contemplate. OTP Dec 2015 Page 28 Issue No. 4 At the other end of the table Bloxwich Rangers, with two games to play are five points adrift at the bottom and look destined to be relegated to the First Division but with four teams sharing six points in the other relegation place it’s just as complicated as at the top of the table. Bustleholme have just one game, against Old Wulfs South on 10 January, to add to their points tally while Gunners have two games, Darlaston three games and Old Wulfs South, who could still finish as champions, have four games to collect enough points needed to avoid relegation. WEEKLY REPORTS Report for 1 November 2015 - A good return from Bilston teams in the Staffs Sunday Cup. Though Bentley Community Warriors bowed out, beaten 11-0 at home to a strong Lichfield Round Table side, Black Country Ravens progressed, sadly at the expense of league colleagues, Woden Warriors, 5-3. Jack Western, Connor Bailey and Cameron Brown each scored for Woden, but strikes from Josh Pile, Jenson Griffiths, Bartosh Walczac, and a brace from Joel Harper, saw Ravens progress. Gunners FC also drew a fellow Bilston team, beating Silverdale Strikers at home, 10-0, with Keenan Bailey and Joshua Smallwood both grabbing hat tricks, while both Alex Stokes and Aaron Allcock hit a brace. A Jordan Winkle hat trick and a strike from Ben Styles secured an impressive 4-2 away win at Wolverhampton Olympic Saints for St Joseph’s Saints, while Ashmore Park Rangers, by the same score line of 4-2, progressed at the expense of Wyrley Jaguars, Chris Lewis, Callum Harvey, Tom Corbett and Dejean Martin all on target for Rangers. Equally impressive was Silverdale Spartans, 3-1 winners at Holy Name, thanks to two goals from Kane Lewin, and a strike from Lewis Wyse. In the Premier Division, a good day for Old Wulfrunians, with the Old Wulfs North recording a 5-2 home win over Bustleholme, thanks to a brace from both Connor Pugh and Ben Broxton, with a goal from Joe Morris wrapping up the win. Shaun Harvey and Praveer Cheema replied for Bustleholme. Stable mates Old Wulfrunians South entertained Bloxwich Rangers, recording a 7-3 victory, with Carrick Chaney, Dan Hadley and Heon Jin each netting twice, completed by a goal from Josh Szabo. Daniel Bishop, Josh Foster and Charlie Harris each scored for Bloxwich. In Division One, St Joseph’s Colts went goal crazy, recording a 20-0 home win over Parkfield Panthers. Brian Kilomuene led the rout with five goals, Lewis Leach and Nehemie Tampwo added four each, Ryan Thelwell chipped in with a brace, completed by goals from Jordan Wilding, Zeney Pennant-Phillips, Kurran Purewal Charlie Stanistreet and Callum Marcou. In Division Two, Springvale Steelers recorded an impressive 7-1 win at Great Barr Harriers, with Daniel Dytor, Cameron Penderton and Reuben Reid each bagging a brace, completed by a goal from Charles Masai. Wayne Taylor replied for Great Barr. WODEN WARRIORS AND WYRLEY JUNIORS OTP Dec 2015 Page 31 Issue No. 4 Report for 8 November 2015 - Rostance Edwards were big winners in the Autumn League Premier Division, inflicting a 7-1 defeat on New Park Village, with Adam Torrington leading the rout with a hat trick, Charlie Hill added a brace, with goals from Tom Harley and Elliot Alves completing the scoring. Brian Asante responded for New Park. The victory sees Rostance leap frog Old Wulfrunians North into top spot, with just one game to go Rostance have a two point lead over their title rivals although New Park, with a game in hand are just three points behind the leaders. Darlaston Town also enjoyed and away day victory, recording and impressive 6-3 victory at Gunners FC to keep their title hopes alive, thanks to goals from Liam Riley Stewart, Vinnie Lloyd, and a brace each for Ryan Perry and Brad James. In reply, Keenan Bailey netted twice, Bailey Irving once. Two big wins in the First Division, the first seeing Bentley Community Warriors inflicting an 18-0 defeat on Parkfield Panthers. Josh Perry helped himself to four goals, Omar Alexander hit a hat trick, Derrell Williams and Sam Poselay both added a double, with singles from Latrell Foster, Bayley Southall, Reuban Chand, Thomas Kennedy, Beck Fisher, Wayne Hammond and Dylan Bably. Just as impressive was St Joseph’s Colts, 18-1 winners at home to Lane Head Cobras. Jay Rolls got the Lane Head consolation, but for Colts, Callum Marcou netted four, Brian Kilomuene and Manveer Soray added three each, Zeney Penant-Phillips and Louis Leach notched two apiece, with further goals coming from Jordan Wilding, Charlie Stanistreet, Callum Westwood and Kuran Purewal. The result sees the Colts move into joint top spot with Black Country Ravens after the Ravens suffered their first league reverse of the campaign when they travelled to Silverdale Strikers. Although in fifth place the strikers are just three points behind the leading pair. A hat trick from Jake Powers helped the Strikers inflict a rare defeat on Black Country Ravens, where other goals from Jack Plant and Thomas Lewis helped secure a 5-3 home win. Two goals from Osaris Jackson and a third from Tom Foster was Ravens’ reply. The Ravens have a game in hand on their title rivals while third placed Sedgley White Lions are just one point behind the leading pair after they had to settle for a share of the points in a 2-2 draw when they travelled to Ashmore Park Rangers. Matthew Pugh and Sam Booth netted for Rangers, but goals for Sedgley from Jack Day and Aaron Heathcock, saw honours end even. Ashmore Park remain just one point behind Sedgley and are still in contention for promotion to the Spring League Premier Division. It was a great day for the St Joseph’s stable as unbeaten Second Division leaders St Joseph’s Colts Saints edged closer to the title after they enjoyed a 9-2 romp at home to Park Hill Boys, with Ben Styles grabbing four, Jordan Winkle two, and singles from Jack Adams, Harjot Singh and Elijah Edwards. Daniel Bearmore and Adam Naim replied for Park Hill. Second placed Silverdale Eagles maintained the pressure at the top of the table when they took all the points from their trip to Heath Town United recording a 7-3 victory thanks to goals from Josh Hickinbottom, Kevin Wallace, Donnel Bernhard, and a brace each from Samuel Hussain and Thomas Green. Wyrley Juniors Colts are just two points behind the Eagles and remain in contention for promotion after an impressive performance at promotion rivals Woden Warriors Two goals each for Jospin Mangolo and Jack Plant helped the visitors to a 4-1 victory with Daniel Douglas netting for Woden. It was honours even when Great Barr OTP Dec 2015 Page 32 Issue No. 4 Harriers entertained Coven United, sharing six goals and the points, with a 3-3 draw. Luke Millard, Wayne Taylor and Josh Jameson each netted for Great Barr but saw their strikes cancelled out by goals from Hayden Holdcroft, Max Hague and Jay Turley. BLOXWICH RANGERS OBSERVING MINUTE’S SILENCE ON REMBERANCE SUNDAY Report for 15 November 2015 - In the delayed second round tie in the Chris Lees League Cup it was Old Wulfrunians South who progress to the quarter finals with a 4-0 victory at Darlaston Town (1874) which came courtesy of a double strike from Dan Hadley and singles from George Terleckyj and Carrick Chaney. Old Wulfs will now face old adversaries Silverdale Spartans in the quarter finals In the quarter finals the ties all went with the form book. Premier Division Old Wulfrunians North travelled to First Division Bentley Community Warriors and progressed with an 8-2 victory. Derrell Williams and Bayley Southall were on target for the Warriors but a four goal salvo from Ben Broxton, a brace from Shaw Goodwin and strikes from Joe Morris and Maxwell Smith saw the visitors through to the semi finals. Premier Division New Park Village also overcame First Division opposition when they beat visitors Black Country Ravens 4-1 thanks to a double blast from Matthew Garbett and singles from Isaac Matongo and Neo Graham. Osaris Jackson was on the score sheet for the Ravens while a double strike from Itai Allen and singles from Joshua Smallwood and Alex Stokes helped Premier Division Gunners progress when they travelled to Second Division Wyrley Juniors Colts booking their place in the semi finals with a 4-2 victory. Jack Plant and Connor Yates were on target for Wyrley. In the Autumn League Premier Division there was a first victory of the campaign for Bustleholme when they travelled to Bloxwich Rangers, taking the points after a seven goal thriller. Callum Golder notched a hat trick for Bloxwich but it was enough OTP Dec 2015 Page 33 Issue No. 4 as a brace apiece from Shaun Harvey and Loic Likaala helped Bustleholme travel home with the points. Ashmore Park Rangers moved to the top of the First Division after a 21-0 demolition of a plucky Lane Head Cobras. James Jordan, Chris Lewis and Sam Booth led the scoring with four goals each while Dominic White and Radoslaw Fedeczko contributed a brace apiece with strikes from Kian Pugh, Rhys Slyde, Matthew Pugh Dejean Martin and Callum Harvey completing the scoring. St Joseph’s Saints were crowned Autumn League Second Division champions after they beat title rivals Woden Warriors 4-3 in their final game of the campaign. A hat trick from Jordan Winkle and a goal from Callum Anderson secured the all-important points for the visitors while the Warriors replied with strikes from Jas Sarah, Jack Western and Cameron Brown. The result effectively ends Woden’s hopes of Autumn League silverware after rivals Silverdale Eagles edged closer to taking second place with a 2-0 victory at Coven United thanks to strikes from Junior Enongene and Donell Bernhard. Cameron Pemberton netted the only goal of the game as Springvale Steelers rounded off their Autumn League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Heath Town United. In the opening salvos in the group stages of the Merit Shield goals from Callum Marcou, Charlie Stanistreet, Kurran Purewal and Brian Kilomuene helped St Joseph’s Colts overcome visitors Silverdale Strikers 4-0 in their Group 3 game while in Group 5 it was honours even when Park Hill Boys travelled to Great Barr Harriers with a strike from Ryan Hughes for the visitors was matched by a goal from Roberto Sinclair for the Harriers. Report for 22 November 2015 - Old Wulfrunians North completed their Autumn League campaign with a 4-1 victory over Gunners to finish in top spot just one point ahead of Rostance Edwards who have one game to play, Max Smith, Olly Taylor, Joe Morris and Joe Richards were the goal heroes for the Wulfs with Itai Allen netting for the visitors. Silverdale Spartans and New Park Village are just three points behind Rostance but both have games in hand and the game next week between Silverdale and New Park will have a big impact on the destination of the silverware. The Spartans maintained their title challenge with a 5-1 victory at Bloxwich Rangers. Tinashe Kanyayi was on the score sheet for the hosts but a hat trick from Kane Lewis and goals from Jake Barker and Lewis Wise secured the points for Silverdale. Bustleholme picked up another victory when they entertained Darlaston Town (1874) after another very close game. A Shaun Harvey brace and a strike from Devante Williams was enough to give Bustleholme the points despite strikes from Ryan Perry and Dylan Kingdom for the visitors. It was all change at the top of the First Division after St Joseph’s Colts completed their fixture programme with a 6-4 victory over Bentley Community Warriors to move to the top of the table. Double blasts from Charlie Stanistreet and Manvir Soray and singles from Callum Marcu and Jordan Wilding secured the vital win with a hat trick from Derrel Williams and a goal from Latrell Foster the Warriors response. Sedgley White Lions moved into second spot, just one point behind St Joseph’s after the recorded an impressive 4-2 victory over promotion rivals Black Country Ravens OTP Dec 2015 Page 34 Issue No. 4 courtesy of a double blast from Ricco Robertson and singles from Jack Glasby and Adam Perkins. Osiris Jackson and Samman Hussain replied for the Ravens who slipped to fourth spot but with one game to play they are just three points behind the leaders. The Ravens are just one point behind Ashmore Park Rangers who they entertain next Sunday in a game that will determine the destination of the Autumn League First Division title. Silverdale Strikers completed their Autumn League programme with a comfortable 21-2 victory at Lane Head Cobras. Leading the goal glut was Jake Powers with a magical eight while Thomas Lewis and Jack Plant bagged a hat trick apiece with Kurt Pritchard, with a brace, Sam Adeji, Liam Dugmore, Shingi Murzangazza, Ben Bissell and Nathan Hurcombe completing the scoring. Andrew Johnson and Ryan Hackett netted for the Cobras. Silverdale Eagles travelled to Wyrley Juniors Colts knowing that a point would be enough to secure runners up spot in the Second Division behind St Joseph’s Saints and after an eight goal thriller they travelled home as runners up having ended the Colts hopes of promotion. A double strike from Connor Yates and singles from Jospin Mangolo and Jack Plant gave the Colts some hope but goals from Junior Enongene, Josh Hickinbottom, Ellis Attwood and Thomas Green gave the Eagles the point they needed. Woden Warriors got back to winning ways with a 6-0 victory at Park Hill Boys with a double strike from Jas Sarah and singles from Simran Sandhu, Robyn Hall, Cameron Brown and Reece Banks while Coven United also enjoyed victory when they entertained Heath Town United taking the points with goals from Harry Farrington, Sarjan Sidhu, Declan Aubrey and Jamie Grant. A Wayne Taylor hat trick gave the visitors some hope but a double strike from Cameron Pemberton and singles from Malvin Ialli and Inderjit Athwal saw the Steelers take the points with a 4-3 victory. Report for 29 November 2015 - In Division One, Bentley Community Warriors romped to a 10-0 home win over Lane Head Cobras, with Omar Alexander chief tormentor, netting four times. Two games survived the weather from Division Two, with Woden Warriors returning from Great Barr Harriers as 4-2 victors, courtesy of goals from Cameron Brown, Jas Sarai, and a Jack Western double. Wayne Taylor grabbed both Great Barr goals. Coven United enjoyed a 4-1 home win over Park Hill Boys, with strikes from Max Hague, Haydan Holdcroft, Saryan Sidhu and Declan Aubrey. Gabriel Trych replied for the visitors. Several Merit Shield games also took place, with the Group One game between Gunners FC and Old Wulfrunians North a thrilling game that ended 4-4. For Gunners, two goals from Wesley Simms, and singles from Alex Stokes and Troy Myles, wasn’t enough to grab a victory, as two goals from Ben Brixton, and strikes from Joseph Richards and Joe Morris saw both teams take a point. OTP Dec 2015 Page 35 Issue No. 4 In Group Two, Sedgley White Lions hosted Old Wulfrunians South, with the visitors taking the points after a 5-0 victory, Carrick Chaney netting a hat trick, aided by goals from Alex Bowerman and Josh Szabo. Compared to the start of the season, the past few weeks have been relatively quiet – thankfully! Members of the Disciplinary Committee have met for a second time however to decide on a number of cases/situations presented to us. Our decisions were as follows: Silverdale Eagles Under 15s: (inappropriate behaviour of Team officials during and after a match) fined £25 and warned as to future conduct. Wyrley Juniors Under 15s: (inappropriate behaviour towards Referee) fined £25, 2 Disciplinary Points and warned as to future conduct Woden Warriors Under 15s: (abuse towards opposition Club Official) fined £25 and warned as to future conduct Ashmore Park Rangers Under 15s: (inappropriate behaviour of Club Assistant Referee towards Match Referee) fined £25 2 Disciplinary points and warned as to future conduct. So, as you will perhaps conclude from the above, we do take the standards we set and expect seriously and, anyone failing to adhere to those standards will be finding themselves “invited for discussion” – which, as I’ve said before, can be costly! It’s disappointing (to say the least) that all of the above issues were caused by adults – not the kids themselves. To be honest, that’s a crap situation! As adults, we’re supposed to be role models for the kids under our guidance and I wonder what kind of example is being set? OTP Dec 2015 Page 46 Issue No. 4 Maybe it’s time to remind everyone involved in running, watching and being part of Youth Football of something I saw on the demon that is Facebook (it is useful for SOME things!). Someone posted a picture of a notice at the side of a junior football pitch that read: Please Remember These are kids This is a game The coaches are volunteers The referees are human This is not the World Cup Isn’t it time to “go back to basics” and remember that we’re all involved in KIDS football – not the high paying Premier League/Professional game and start behaving in a way that reflects the ethos of junior football? Just a thought! Hopefully, we can now get back on track and enjoy the rest of the season relatively “discipline free” – we’ll wait and see! On a separate note, all outstanding signed Codes of Conduct should’ve been back in at the December meeting as reminded by Graham at last meeting and at previous meetings. We’ve already given teams an extra month’s grace to get them in so, to those Clubs who haven’t returned them by December meeting, sorry, it’ll cost you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all involved in our teams and with the BPYFL Darrell Foster (Disciplinary Committee Chair) OTP Dec 2015 Page 47 Issue No. 4 DISCIPLINARY PENALTY POINTS NAUGHTY LIST The Disciplinary Code penalises teams who fail to maintain the standards of conduct and behaviour set out in the Code of Conduct. Penalty points are awarded for breeches of League Rules, or misconduct, with the number of points varying, (see table below) depending on the severity of the offence. Each team holds its own account, so a club with multiple teams will hold multiple ‘accounts’. Thus one ‘bad’ team would not necessarily reflect on the whole Club. Every team starts with a clean sheet, but, if over a season, a team accumulates 30+ points, that team will be invited to a Disciplinary Meeting to justify such a total, and possibly be charged with bringing the League into disrepute. Likewise, every further ten points accumulated could incur a similar charge, and should a team exceed the 50-point mark could have points deducted or may even be expelled from the League. There are home ties for New Park Village, who entertain Lakeside, Cresswell Wanderers, who play host to Bradwell Bombers and Legion Lions, who are visited by Hedesford Town while Charles United host Bilston League colleagues Coven United. We wish all our teams every success and hope that they can emulate last season’s winners New Park Village. In the Birmingham County Cup we are represented by Boldmere St Michael who beat Bilston League colleagues Great Barr Harriers 1-0 to earn a trip to Lye Town in round 3 and we hope Boldmere can go all the way and retain the trophy won by Dudley Sports last season. In the League Boldmere remain the team to beat in the Premier Division as they continue to top the table with maximum points. Boldmere have a two point lead over Silverdale Vipers, who have played a game more while New Park Village are three points adrift of the leaders. This three have opened up a six point gap over the chasing pack which is headed by AFC Bilston although Wednesbury Sports Union, who also have a perfect record, have games in hand in which to make close the gap. Tipton Youth, who are well up on their fixtures, have a victory plus an impressive 0-0 draw against Silverdale Vipers to their credit while Legion Lions picked up their first points of the campaign with a 5-0 victory over Tipton. This leaves Coven United still looking for their first league win of the season. In the First Division Gunners maintained their 100% record to top the table and open up a five point gap over Great Barr Harriers, who have a game in hand while third place is shared by Cresswell Wanderers and Wednesbury Sports Union Rangers who are three points adrift of Great Barr. Wood Green Athletic and Charles United are four points further behind while Sedgley White Lions are the Division’s draw specialists having drawn half of their games so far. Punjab United are having a creditable season with one win and three draws so far while Salisbury Rangers, with games in hand over all of their colleagues have amassed five points leaving new comers Shelfield United as the only team yet to pick up a point. In the domestic cup competitions the quarter final draw for the Jim Rickhuss League Cup was made at the November meeting and sees the First Division’s lone representative Charles United entertain Wednesbury Sports Union. The full draw is: Gunners v New Park Village Silverdale Vipers v Coven United Charles United v Wednesbury Sports Union Boldmere St Michael v AFC Bilston OTP Dec 2015 Page 54 Issue No. 4 The quarter finals of the Premier Division Cup saw all away wins with Boldmere St Michael cruising past Coven United while Silverdale Vipers knocked out Legion Lions and Wednesbury Sports Union emerged victorious from a seven goal thriller at AFC Bilston. They are joined in the semis by Tipton Youth who were awarded their tie when Sporting Khalsa folded. In the First Division Cup there were comfortable victories for Wood Green, over visitors Wednesbury Sports Union Rangers and Gunners, at Salisbury Rangers but it took extra time and penalties to separate Cresswell and Sedgley White Lions with visitors Sedgley winning the penalty shoot out 5-4. Cresswell Wanderers went to Bilbrook Juniors, and after the scores ended 3-3 after extra time, held their nerve to win the penalty shoot out, 7-6. Silverdale Vipers went a goal down at PRD United, but rallied to make the final score 2-2, then went onto to win 4-2 in extra time, Dan Bishop notching a hat trick, with Dylan Spragg the other scorer. One game in the Premier Division, with leaders Boldmere St Michaels extending that lead with a 6-2 victory at Tipton Youth. Ben Morris and Kyle Norton netted for Tipton, but a hat trick from Kasen Peace, and singles from Rio Blake-Hinds, Tom Harper and Aiden Moseley, secured the win for Boldmere. In Division One, Wood Green Athletic enjoyed an 8-0 home win over Salisbury Rangers, Connor Williams netting four, assisted by goals from Corey Titley, Josh O’Toole, Samuel Millington and Rajan Singh Natt. It was honours even between Sedgley White Lions and Punjab United, the game ending 2-2. Josh Turner and Lucas Morgan netted for Wood Green, but the goals cancelled out by strikes from Roshan Balu and Jack Franklin. Report for 8 November 2015 Not such a god return for Bilston League teams in the Birmingham Cup, despite Jack Franklin hitting a hat trick for Punjab United, they went down 3-6 at Belvedere Park Reds. Salisbury Rangers entertained Castle Juniors, but bowed out, 3-7, despite goals from Jack Plant, Adam Timmins and Paul Johnson. Wood Green Athletic travelled to Lye Town, but went down 1-3, with a Connor Williams goal their only consolation. In the Premier Division, with leaders Boldmere St Michaels on County Cup duty, although their game was postponed, Silverdale Vipers had the chance to move into joint top spot when they travelled to lowly Tipton Youth but an impressive display from the Tipton defence saw them pick up their first point of the campaign in a 0-0 draw. Report for 15 November 2015 Boldmere St Michaels continue to fly the flag for the Bilston League teams in the Birmingham County FA Cup after Kasen Peace bagged the all important goal in their delayed second round tie against Bilston League colleagues Great Barr Harriers. AFC Bilston are also through to the third round of their County Cup after a double blast from Connor Fieldhouse saw them win their delayed Staffs County FA Cup second round tie at Cooksey Colts 2-1. New Park Village maintained their 100% record when they travelled to Coven United and the 5-3 victory saw them move to within 3 points of Premier Division leaders Boldmere with a game in hand. A hat trick from Kian Griffiths, a strike from Miles Lesney and an own goal secured maximum points for the Village despite a double strike from Leightye Wilson and a goal from Ashley Sanders for Coven while Legion Lions opened their points tally for the season with an impressive 5-0 victory over Tipton Youth capped by a hat trick from Josh Macgregor and a brace from Soms Sibanda. The top of the table clash in the First Division saw leaders Gunners travel to second placed Cresswell Wanderers and open up an eleven point gap at the top of the table after an odd goal in five victory. Goals from Aiden Davies and Daniel Caunt for the Wanderers just weren’t enough to deny the leaders maximum points and ensure the Gunners 100% record remains intact. With promotion rivals Great Barr Harriers away on county cup duty Cresswell remain in joint second spot where they are joined by Wednesbury Sports Union Rangers who enjoyed a 5-3 victory over visitors Wood Green Athletic. Goals from Liam Dawson, Alex Harvey, Liam Wright, Owen Aldersley and Frank Mataranyika secured the points for the Rangers with Corey Titley, Connor Williams and Rajan Singh Natt replying for the visitors. Report for 22 November 2015 In the second round of the Premier Division Cup, Boldmere St Michaels made light work of progressing to Round Three, securing a 9-1 away win at Coven United. Tyrique Douglas netted for Coven, but hat tricks from both Tom Harper and Kasen Peace, plus a brace from Rio Blake-Hines, with a goal from Curtis Bullock completing the scoring, saw Boldmere march on. Connor Fieldhouse, Ryan Tinsley and Mason Hodgson were all on target for Bilston, but OTP Dec 2015 Page 57 Issue No. 4 goals from Jordan Henry, Tyrese Duffield, Reuben Ahmed and George Hill, saw Wednesbury go through. In the First Division Cup, Wood Green Athletic booked a Semi Final place with a 6-0 home win over Wednesbury Sports Union Rangers, Corey Titley, Rajan Natt, Josh O’Toole and Brandon Fryer all bagged a goal apiece, with Connor Williams netting a brace. Tom Weaver netted for Salisbury. A thrilling game between Cresswell Wanderers and Sedgley White Lions ended all square after extra time, 1-1, with Sedgley edging the penalty shoot out, 5-4. It was a great game for the neutral when Tipton Youth entertained New Park Village in the Premier Division. The Village were looking to extend their 100% record and quickly raced into a 3-0 lead half time lead from two heads from corners and a great 20 yard strike with Hamaz Nami bagging a brace and Kieron Cook the other goal. In the second half it was a different story as Tipton came alive and played some great football to take the points with a strike from Ben Morris and a hat trick from Liam Davies who notched the winner in the last minute to clinch Tipton’s first win of the season. A great performance from both sides and a great advert for youth football. In Division One, a solitary goal from Ravel Wallace proved enough to secure a 1-0 for Charles United, away to Punjab United. Great Barr Harriers travelled to Shelfield United, where a single strike from Matthew May decided the game, Great Barr winning 1-0. However, I have been informed by Wolverhampton City Council that parks’ pitches will also be closed on Sunday 3 January so I will not be producing fixtures for that Sunday either. If however you are really keen and want a fixture on either of those dates then please let me know and I will see what I can do. There will be fixtures on all other Sundays including half term and Easter so if these dates are likely to be difficult for you then please let me know that you need a free week. Teams are entitled to two free weeks per season but I will try to accommodate more if at all possible. You must provide a minimum of 28 days’ notice for a free week but the more notice you can give the better. I have already received requests for a free week next Easter. To request a free week please either text or email me on 07538 178520 or email [email protected]. I will acknowledge your request. If you don’t receive a reply from me then I haven’t received your message and your request has not been approved. Forthcoming fixtures are published at each Monthly League meeting. The fixtures have to be finalised two weeks before the meeting to enable sufficient time to allocate refs and print the fixtures ready for the meeting. Please bear that in mind when you are requesting a free week. Due to team numbers not all teams will necessarily have a fixture each week. The fixtures will show all teams that are “Available for a fixture” or “Free Week – not available for a fixture”. If circumstances change and it is possible for me to arrange a fixture for “Available” teams I will do so so please let me know if you need a free week even if you are the “Available” team that week. If I have to make changes to the fixtures you will receive a text and / or email from me. I will endeavour to update the website for any changes as quickly as possible. External Cup Competitions Any free week requests for County Cup dates must be directed to your County FA and I believe that Counties can impose significant financial penalties for nonfulfilment of County Cup fixtures. Pitch Sharing - If you have told me that you pitch share then I will try to accommodate your arrangements as best as I possibly can but with so many teams sharing this is not always possibly. Similarly I have no control over cup draws. All teams that pitch share are marked with an * on the fixtures. This is to help me spot any potential clashes and if there is a clash I will mark the fixtures accordingly. If you do have a clash then you will need to make other arrangements such as varying the kick off time or finding an alternative venue. OTP Dec 2015 Page 59 Issue No. 4 UNDER 17s Old Hall Eagles are leading the way in the Premier Division but they only hold a narrow one point lead over Rostance Edwards, who have a game in hand. These two are well clear of third placed Lane Head Rangers while Bustleholme with just one victory to their credit sit in fourth spot. Wednesfield, who are now back on track, have two draws to their name, including an impressive 1-1 draw at Old Hall Eagles while Brewood Juniors’ change in manager saw a change in their fortunes as they picked up their first point of the campaign at Wednesfield. Cheslyn Hay, with a maximum return, continue to lead the way in the First Division while Berkswich Athletic are just three points adrift although they have played two games more. Pelsall Villa Colts, with two games in hand are just three points behind Berkswich and are still in contention for honours as are Great Barr Harriers who have two games in which to make up a five point gap with Berkswich. Wyrley Juniors have picked up a three victories so far and are capable of taking points off the other teams around them as are Bloxwich Rangers and Great Barr Harriers Athletic who have a couple of wins apiece so far. Springvale Steelers would be much higher in the table if they hadn’t been caught fielding an unregistered player against Penkridge which cost them a 3 point deduction and saw the result of the game expunged from the records while Penkridge are still looking for points to add to their early season victory at Great Barr Harriers Athletic. Hopefully and weather permitting we should be able to sort out the format of the Spring Leagues in the new year but the most likely outcome will see one team relegated from the Premier and two promoted from the First Division to give a Premier Division of 7 teams and a First Division of 8 teams. The Autumn Shield introduced to provide extra fixtures for the First Division teams as is in its early stages an in group one after just one round of fixtures the table is headed by Cheslyn Hay and Great Barr Harriers who recorded victories over Springvale Steelers and Pelsall Villa Colts respectively. In Group 2 there have been victories for Berkswich and Wyrley Lions, both over Penkridge, and Bloxwich Rangers, over Great Barr Harriers Athletic. The home team must ring the opposition and referee to confirm the fixture by the Wednesday prior to the game. Simply sending a text or email and assuming it has been received is not sufficient. If you don’t receive an acknowledgement of your message you should follow up with a phone call. Likewise the away team has a responsibility to seek and acknowledge confirmation of the fixture. If you haven’t received notification from the home side you should ring them and indicate accordingly on the Match Report Form. The home team may be liable to a fine for not contacting their opposition and referee appropriately and may find that the referee is no longer available for their fixture. What do we do if the appointed Referee is no longer available to fulfil the appointment? If, when you contact your appointed referee, they are no longer available or if the referee subsequently informs you they can no longer fulfil the appointment you should contact the Referees Secretary, Graham Hodson, immediately. Unless it is on the day of the match Graham is normally able to arrange a replacement referee. What do we have to do prior to kick off? The home team must ensure that the Match Report Form is completed prior to kick off and it must be available for inspection by the opposition and referee. Player Registration Cards must be available for all players listed on the Match Report Form and must be exchanged with your opposition prior to kick off. A team has every right to speak to the referee and delay kick off until a full completed Match Report Form is available and Reg. Cards have been exchanged. If you have any concerns about a player’s registration and eligibility contact your Registration Secretary immediately and if you unable to reach them contact one of the other Committee Members who will try to resolve the problem. What do we do if the opposition haven’t arrived by kick off time? A team failing to arrive on time should be given 20 minutes leeway after the agreed kick off time. Obviously though you should contact them immediately. What do we do if the appointed Referee doesn’t arrive? Although this is a rare occurrence occasionally a referee may be taken ill or suffer an injury on the day of the game. In the first instance try contacting the referee and then if you can speak to Graham or Mike. It is unlikely but it may be possible to arrange a replacement referee. If a replacement cannot be provided then the teams can agree to provide a referee themselves however if, for whatever reason, they are reluctant to do so no action will be taken by the League if the game isn’t played. OTP Dec 2015 Page 72 Issue No. 4 Who pays for the Referee and Assistant Referees (if appointed)? In all cases the home team shall be responsible for collecting the fees prior to kick off and for paying the Referee and Assistant Referees (if appointed) their fees immediately after the match. For League games the teams will share the referee’s fees but in Cup games the away team is responsible for meeting the cost of the Referee. The cost of Assistant Referees, if appointed, will be met by the team requesting them or shared by the teams if appointed by the League. . Who reports the Result? The home team must telephone the result of their game along with details of goal scorers etc. to their appropriate Results Co-ordinator between the hours of 5pm 6pm on the day of the match. This also applies to cup games and postponed games. All teams involved in external cup competitions whether home or away must provide details of the result to their Results Co-ordinator. Failure to do so will result in a fine! The away team are welcome to text or email the result and goal scorer details to Mike Ball on 07538 178520 or email [email protected]. All information in respect of the match including goal scorers etc. given to the Results Co-ordinators will be included in that week’s press release and will be published on the League’s web page. The official record of goals scored will be taken from match report forms. Either or both teams can also email Mike a short report on the match which will also be included in the press release. . What happens to the Match Report Form? The home team must send the fully completed and signed Match Report Form to Gavin Reynolds, the Match Report Form Co-ordinator immediately after the game to arrive no later than two days after the fixture. Gavin’s address is: 63 Leybourne Crescent, Pendeford, Wolverhampton, WV9 5QG or emailed the Form to [email protected].
