Bob Shawkey Debut - Dead Ball Decades
July 16, 1913 marked the major league debut of Bob Shawkey with
the Philadelphia Athletics. Shawkey would appear in the 1914 World
Series with the A’s but would be sent to the Yankees in 1915 as
Connie Mack dismantled his team because of financial difficulties. It
was with the Yankees that Shawkey would achieve his greatest
success, appearing in four World Series with them in the 1920’s. He
would finish his career in 1927 with a record of 195-150 and an ERA
of 3.09.
