SUMMER NEWSLETTER
BORROW A LAPTOP
Looking for a truly quiet place to work online? Look
no further. BML now loans laptops for use in the
Library. Work on Office Suite programs, WinWay
Resume builder, search the internet and print
wirelessly from anywhere in the Library, including the
Reading Room. Borrowers must have a Bellmore
Memorial Library Card, and sign a
waiver accepting responsibility for the
laptop while it is in their possession.
Inquire at the Reference or
Circulation Desk, for more information.
READING ROOM
“There’s no quiet place to study in this Library!”
This is the most common complaint I have heard in
the five years I have been at the Bellmore Memorial
Library. After completing the conversion of the
compact storage room to our new Meeting Room, we
have finally have come up
with a solution to that
COMPUTER
problem. We moved the
AREA
Help Desk staff out to the
Reference Desk and moved
the public computers out
between the Teen Zone
and the adult fiction collection. This makes it easier
for staff to assist patrons with computer issues. We
then moved some leather
chairs and more work
tables into what had been
the “Quiet Study Area,”
and designated it a “silent
texting only” Reading
Room. We set up tables

and chairs in the Community Room so that tutors,
who must converse with their students, have a place
to work if all the tables in the adult area are taken.
This leaves the Reading
Room an island of quiet in
an increasingly noisy
world. If you want to use
the BML’s computers, but
want to work in silence, we
have laptops for Bellmore
cardholders to borrow for use inside the building.
There is still a good bit of work to be done, including
more comfortable seating and task lighting, but we
can offer our patrons a truly quiet place to work.
Enjoy!
