On Wednesday, May 7th, we will celebrate Mother’s Day. At 11:00 am, we will enjoy the wonderful music of Roger Clement. The dinner menu is a delicious roasted pork loin. Please sign up and join us. KICKOFF OF YELLOW DOT PROGRAM At 11:30, we will take a break for the introduction of the Yellow Dot Program. South Berwick Police, Rescue and Fire Department will be here to give us the details on this new program. You won’t want to miss this...it could save your life. Suggested donation: $7.00/member $8.00/nonmember HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! May marks 18 years since the Senior Center officially opened its doors. We have met so many awesome people and have enjoyed many good times together and we want to celebrate. The party will begin on May 14th at 11:00 am with music by Shades of Grass. Macadamia chicken prepared by Chef Mark will be served at noon. Suggested donation: $7.00/member $8.00/nonmember SUMMER KICK-OFF BARBECUE Senior Center Publications Fred Keen will join us on Wednesday, May 21st at 11:00 am, as we kick off summer with our annual Memorial Day backyard barbecue. Hot dogs and burgers hot off the grill will be served with all the fixins. Suggested donation: $7.00/member $8.00/nonmember KARAOKE RETURNS Get your singing voices ready, karaoke is returning to the Center on Wednesday, May 28th. We will begin at 11:30am and break at noon for Kera’s delicious oven-fried chicken. As always, karaoke will continue after lunch until we run out of singers. We want to say thank you to Jill Ervey, Manager, and Brenda Tuttle for thinking of us and for their generosity. WE WILL MISS YOU, MR. LASH A big thank you to David Lash for all of his hard work and all the extras he has done for us over the years. We will miss the wonderful job he has done taking care of our Center...and his howdy do! Just a reminder that the handicapped parking spots are for our seniors who need to be parked a little closer to the door. If you do not have a permit, please try to find parking elsewhere in our lot. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Joyce Perreault would like to thank everyone for the cards, calls, thoughts and donations made in memory of her mother, Louise. Our thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated. WHAT IS THE YELLOW DOT PROGRAM? The yellow dot from the Yellow Dot Program on the rear window of your car could save your life. This sticker lets emergency personnel know that you have enrolled in the program and should have a packet of vital information in your glove box. The information includes who you want called in an emergency, your hospital preference, allergies and necessary medications. Please join us on May 7th to learn more RED HAT GALA—FRIDAY, MAY 9TH The Red Hat Hotties will be hosting their annual Red Hat Gala on Friday, May 9th. This is a very special day for the ladies in local nursing and assisted living facilities as they gather at the Center for a day of food, entertainment and a “Red Hat” for everyone. In past years, this event has been well attended by five local nursing home and assisted living facilities. All special events are indicated by an ** and the suggested donation is $7.00/members and $8.00/ nonmembers. If you would like to join us for a meal, but cannot afford to pay, please see Sharon and arrangements will be made confidentially. CANCELLATION POLICY: If school is cancelled for SAD #35, the Center will be closed. Meal reservations will be carried over to the very next day. DON’T FORGET: Thursdays are a la carte. Transportation for all trips offered is by motorcoach unless otherwise noted. A minimum number of people (varies by trip) is required for all trips, so if you are interested, please sign up so we can count on you. Seating on the bus is assigned by the order of signups (with exceptions made for those with special needs), so if you would like to sit in the front of the bus, make sure you sign up early. All reservations are subject to the cancellation policy of the agency providing the trip and/or the policy of the Center. Payment is due as soon as possible. 42nd STREET AT THE INTERLAKES SUMMER THEATRE THURSDAY, JULY 3rd Join us on our first summer adventure to see 42nd Street, Broadway’s best loved song and dance extravaganza. We will stop at Hart’s Turkey Farm for lunch and then proceed to the show. Meal choice of turkey, haddock or ham. Please make your meal choice when you make your payment. HELLO DOLLY AT THE INTERLAKES SUMMER THEATRE THURSDAY, AUGUST 7TH Winner of 10 Tony Awards, including best musical, starring Nancy Barry as Dolly Levi (this is the actress who usually introduces the shows when we go there). THE BUS TO THE LOBSTERFEST AT INDIAN HEAD RESORT ON JUNE 16TH AND 17TH IS NOW FULL. SENIOR CENTER TRIP CANCELLATION POLICY If you have signed up and paid for a trip and then find you must cancel, the following cancellation fees apply (this does not include the price of show tickets, admission fees, etc., which are nonrefundable): 30 to 15 days prior to trip—75% refund 14 to 8 days prior to trip—50% refund Within the last 7 days of trip—no refund For any cancellation that requires a refund, there will be a minimum $5 fee charged to cover administrative costs. The Center offers a wide range of activities from board games to exercise classes to line dancing, as well as opportunities for travel and adventure or the chance to just sit down and have a cup of coffee with a friend. There is always something going on at the Center, so come and check it out! We are open Monday through Friday and we are located in the South Berwick Community Center at 71 Norton Street. We are currently looking for volunteers for our reception desk (sign up sheet located in entryway) and for meal help, including meal service and dish duty (sign up sheet on kitchen door). We would like to provide a free meal to all our volunteers, but we cannot do so unless we know you are coming, so signing up ahead of time is a must!! If you have any questions, please see Mona or call us at 384-3310. Many hands make light work, so the more the merrier! We are in critical need of volunteers to help with dishes.
