Shmirat HaGuf—“Taking care of the body”
Through fun games, songs and projects, the value of “Shmirat HaGuf” which means “taking care of the body” will be implemented this
summer as our Jewish value theme. This will be reinforced not only through daily activities like healthy lunch choices and the importance of
reapplying sunscreen as well as when the campers go to specialists throughout the camp day.
A little more on our Camp Wide Events:
Camp T-Shirt Day—June 19: Wear your camp T-Shirt! On certain Fridays campers will wear their camp T-Shirts. This adds to the
community feel at Shabbat, and hey… who doesn't look good in orange!!
Olympic Day—June 24: This summer we will be participating with 742 other camps around the United States in Olympic Day. This day will
give campers a chance to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, experience an opening ceremony, compete in Olympic
style games and learn about different countries from around the world.
Parent Shabbat—June 26 & July 31: Camp Shabbat takes place every Friday at camp. On certain Fridays we invite parents to participate
in our special camp tradition. Come join your child as we song camp songs, learn the meaning of Shabbat and say the blessings over the
candles, grape juice and Challah. If you are lucky, your camper will even share their Challah with you! Parents Welcome.
Water Carnival—June 29 & August 5: Miami Beach is hot in the summer! There is no better way to spend some time outside then
zipping down water slides, riding paddles boats and having extra swim time with your camp friends. The Water Carnival is so popular with
the campers we offer it twice!! Please send your camper to camp in a bathing suit and wearing sunscreen- water shirts are encouraged for
these days.
Bowl-a-thon for Chai Lifeline—June 30: Every summer the MBJCC Camp Klurman helps Chai Lifeline raise funds to give a seriously ill
child a Jewish Camp experience. A representative will come to Camp Klurman to explain more about the organization to the campers and
then Yedidim through Tzofim Units will go to Bird Bowl for a Bowl-a-thon. Our Chalutzim and Chaverim campers will have a Bowl-a-thon
here at the MBJCC. More information on how to donate will be provided prior to the event.
Picture Day—July 9: Please send your child to camp wearing their camp T- shirt. Each group will have a set time to be photographed as a
group. These Photos will be sent home with your camper.
Shul House Rocks—July 10: Every camper is a Rock Star in our eyes! This is their time to rock out to their favorite bands. Inspired by the
Tonight Show with Jimmy Falon, the campers will have a Lip – sync off! Each camp group will dress up, rock out and perform. As the
performance date gets closer we will notify you what the groups has decided to wear. Parents Welcome.
Tie Dye Day—July 17: Nothing feels more like camp then making and wearing your own tie dye shirt. Throughout the week campers will
learn the secrets to a perfect tie dye twist. They will pick the colors they want to use and then show off their masterpieces on Friday.
Jewish Heroes Day—July 20: Heroes are leaders and pioneers in their field. During every activity on this day, campers will learn about a
Jewish Hero that inspired a sports team, invented something new or performed an act that made a difference.
Israel Day—July 29: With the help of our Israeli Shlichim, we spend the day learning about Israel. Through interactive stations campers
will “milk a cow” on a kibbutz, climb Masada, experience boot camp IDF- style, leave messages in the Kotel and listen to stories in a Bedouin
Tent. Wear Blue and White!
Color War—Surprise!: This is the highlight of the summer for many campers and staff. Camp is divided into 2 teams. Color War is a
friendly competition and events are planned so that every child can be a part of the fun and have a moment to shine. There are Color War
rules, but bottom line: we are teaching campers about displaying good sportsmanship skills, and winning and losing.
