The Cotton Patch
Quilters Guild meets on
the second Tuesday of
each month at the Lyndon
House Arts Center in the
Community Room, 293
Hoyt Street in Athens,
Georgia, 7:00 PM - 9 PM.
Dear Members,
I now have several more notions and helpmates to add to my shopping list, thanks to the program on "Our favorite things". What a wealth
of information, even the notions that were invisible.
Let me tell you about my lists. I have resorted to writing everything down, mainly because I just cannot remember anything. I walk
down the hall to get something and can't remember what 1went after. My
husband calls it the hereafter syndrome - just because I cannot remember
what I am here after.
Last year a few of us were lucky enough to go to Paducah to the
quilt show. I made a long list that I started several months before 1 left. I
received a lot of criticism and comments about my list. Every day we
were there I wrote another list, what I had bought, what! was still looking
for, what I thought 1needed. Well, you know the comments kept coming.
This year, I am lucky enough to be going again. And, yes, I have
another list. My problem is that I do not get to the quilt stores often
enough to be able to appreciate them fully and shop accordingly. When I
get there, I have so much to look at and so many more ideas jump into my
head that I totally forget the main article I came to look for. Thus, the
infamous list. And I have started my Paducah list several months ago.
And I am already getting comments about this list. And thanks to all of
you and our program last week, the list became longer. I might even find
a needle threader like Shirley talked about and demonstrated.
Time to get ready and pack. I am so looking forward to this trip.
What will be the first item I pack? You got it - the shopping list.
See you soon,

Bombay, India. I shall be coming to Athens, GA in
the first week of June, as my daughter would be
joining the University of Georgia. When I realised
I would be coming to Athens and being a highly
dedicated and avid quilter, I immediately looked
up quilting groups in Athens on the internet, and
found your group. I would be very interested in
attending workshops or month long courses on
quilting while I am in Georgia, and would be grateful if you could provide me with some details about
the same.

Kyle Howington has found the craft tote that Jeannie
Wampler showed us (or one similar to it) last month. It
is located at Michael's at the end of the display of
needles. It is a durable 12" X 15" tote with webbed
hand]es and an adjustable shoulder strap. It is ideal for
carrying and storing craft supplies and projects. It includes two removable zippered pocket pages secured
inside the bag with velcro. Cost is $19.99, but with
your 40% coupon, they are $ I2.83 including tax. There
were about five remaining.

than others, What's the worst mistake you ever made
in quilting - followed by the following multiple
question: After you've been on a big fabric spree
do you (a) take all the fabric in the house and show
it off (b) take it in the house and say it belongs to a
friend (c) take it in the house and explain how you
really needed it, (d) store it in the trunk of the car
until no one's around or (e) store it at a friend's

"Busy Hands are Happy Hands"
Thanks to all who brought donations for
Project Safe at the April meeting. They will be delivered before the May meeting. Chris Reynolds brought
a large bag of pre-washed cottons for the PhilanthroBEE. Now that's going a step beyond the call of
duty. I can hardly wait to share the booty with the
Tuesday night bee. If you are looking for a bee, please
consider joining me, Catherine Johnston, Lola Gazda,
Sharlys Crisafulli, Ginny Lynch, and Ellen Nelson on
Tuesday evenings in the Fiber Room of the Lyndon
House. We would love to have you!
Quilts donated to Grandview in April came
from Judy Caputi (2), Lola Gazda (1), Jean Carney
(1), and me (4). I finally got the binding done by folding the quilt so the edges were all on the outside. With
this method, you can hand stitch the binding down
with the quilt neatly folded in your lap while waiting
for an appointment. I've even taken up knitting again
with our first grandchild due in July. It's wondelful
to have something useful to do with your time when
you are waiting. I'm getting better at the art of waiting. It takes practice.

Put some of your UFO's together (as Judy
Caputi did with her odd size charm squares) and make
a lap quilt for the residents! It should measure at least
45"x45" and be backed with flannel if possible.

Some of the Patchies donated so far have been
distributed to Grandview Care Center and Project
Safe! For the past 4-5 months, we have set aside all
the quilts intended for Grandview so they can be presented to the director of activities at the June meeting. Remember, every time you donate a quilt to the
Guild's charitable projects, your name will be dropped
into Madeline's hat for a chance to win gift celtificates and other prizes donated by area merchants. Be
sure to PIN YOUR NAME onto your quilt(s). All
identification will be removed before leaving with the
shelter or nursing home. The drawing will take place
at the June 2004 meeting. I hope Madeline attired in
her feather boa will be present to make the awards!

I amThe BOUTIQUE chairman for the Quilt Show next March. It is my
deeply held belief that it is never too early to begin sewing up some projects
to be placed in the BOUTIQUE. That means you will probably see a little
blurb or two from me in the Newsltter about The BOUTIQUE from now
until March!! For now, I just want to thank all the great gals who brought to
the last meeting some of the terrific goodies that they found at the BOUTIQUE last year. They showed off lots of great ideas: sewing machine
covers; pot holders; placemats; casserole carriers; sewing organizers. We'll
keep updating the list of great ideas as time goes on. Thanks, ladies, for
sharing! !
