The new board members are Carol Cestaro, Flo Guimond and Frank Kasinecz. The new board members will take office in January. See the attached Mainlands Calendar for all current events in Mainlands. “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.” I hope by now, you have your favorite cookies baked as the Cookie Exchange will be December 7th at 4pm. Come out, visit, and share some of the wonderful cookies and remember to take some home. Note to our new residents: For the Cookie Exchange, we ask that you bring three Harry S. Truman 2 dozen cookies to the clubhouse. We exchange one dozen cookies for you to take home, and we sample others over coffee and conversation. As for the rest of the cookies, tins are made up and we go caroling to bring cookies to those who are unable to get out. with the Women's Club. The clocks will be synchronized to a national time standard so all three should display the same time and be set automatically. We also voted to purchase a new mailbox for the clubhouse. We agreed to make a $100 donation to each of the following organizations: Salvation Army, Alzheimers Foundation, and Hospice. Remember to mark your calendar for New Year's Eve. Unit 3 will ring in the New Year with the music of Mel Infanzon and a cold buffet. Jeanette Garon will be selling the tickets for $20 each. The tickets will be sold to Unit 3 residents for the first two weeks of sales and then opened up to the others. So make sure to get your tickets early. Plans for a proposed bike ride on the Pinellas Trail were discussed. This would be in the February time frame. A deep sea fishing trip was also discussed. There was enough interest shown in both activities that they will be investigated further. WHO AM I? WRITTEN BY YOU If you’d like to contribute to this column, please write a brief bio of your life, or your spouse’s life, and submit it for a future issue. Emailing to [email protected] is the preferred method of submission. ARE YOU EXPERIENCING THE LOSS BY DEATH OF A LOVED ONE? If so, then this free service might be for you. An organization called "Griefshare" meets every Tuesday night at 7pm in the Calvary Church directly across from the Mainlands entrance on Rte. 19. They use room T-4. I was born before the 1929 stock market crash and spent half my life in the New York area. Most of the other half was spent in the Los Angeles area, except for the last few years during which I have resided among you. I practiced my profession for 50 years, before retiring. Along the way, I earned three university degrees. For thirty years one of the consuming passions of my life was automobile racing. I raced on road racing courses in the Northeast and subsequently in California, Arizona and Oregon, as well as making sojourns to Atlanta to compete for the national championship. I am married to my beautiful wife, whom I met at a Unit 3 dance. I have two children from former marriages, as well as 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Who am I ? The answer is hiding elsewhere in this issue. MEN’S CLUB Frank Kasinecz Officers for the Men's Club in 2009 are: Russell Ploesser, President: Dale Krumreich, 1st Vice President: Sam Lofredo, 2nd Vice President: Ed Hamburger, Secretary: and Adan Garcia, Treasurer. Meetings consist of: Video Seminar with Experts; Each week your GriefShare group will watch a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects. Support Group Discussion with Focus; After viewing the video, you and the other group members will spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar. Workbook-Based Personal Study and Reflection; During the week you will have the opportunity to use your workbook for further personal study. Contact Gail Segal at 727-502-7629 for more information. Norma Bassett, a resident of Unit 2, provided this information and says that the seminars have helped her a lot. She welcomes your phone call at 577-1106. Calvary Chapel provides the space for Griefshare. There is no affiliation between Calvary Chapel and Griefshare. These seminars deal only with loss by death. http://www.griefshare.org/ The Sunday Solos Singles Club of Mainlands meets on the second Sunday of the month. For information call 563-9340. We voted to purchase three new clocks for the clubhouse and share the cost 3 WOMEN’S CLUB Jeanette Garon On November 14th the Women's club had a high tea and fashion show with clothes from the Dress Barn. What a wonderful afternoon it was. We entertained the presidents and vice presidents of the other units. Everyone was served savory sandwiches of salmon salad, egg salad, cream cheese and cucumber, warm scones with strawberry jam and whipped cream, and mini eclaires, cream puffs, and cheese cake for dessert. CALENDAR BOYS December is the last month to get your 2009 Boys Of Mainlands 3 calendar. They are hot and they are selling very well! We still have a few left for sale for only $10 each. The proceeds will be divided equally between the Women's Club and the Men's Club. As an added incentive to buy this calendar, there will also be a $10 prize drawn monthly and, on New Years Eve there will be two $25 prizes drawn. The calendars are on sale at Kaffee Klatch and at other events. Surely, there is someone on your gift list year who already “has everything” but THIS! I would like to thank all who helped make it such a successful event, and forgive me if I've forgotten anyone as it has been a crazy week. Maggie ran with me everyday taking models to the store for fittings, shopping for food, and bringing all her teapots and cups and saucers for everyone who forgot to bring their own. Miley did a fabulous job decorating the tables with gorgeous shoes and jewelry. Our models, Angie, Anna, Dot, Nancy, Barbara, Gayle and Mitzie. Maggie, Barbara, Nancy, Angie, Sis, Dolores R., Judi Brunk, Edna G, Doris and Ruby, helped prepare all the food. It is said that a successful organization is only as good as its volunteers, so that said, we must have the very best! You can view pictures of the tea and fashion show at the following web address: If you have questions or want more information about the calendar, contact Maggie Ploesser at 572-1011. FREE ENTERTAINMENT! Helen and I just had a nice experience. On the 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Pinellas Park Auditorium, between 11:30am and 1pm, there is a free organ concert. Four or five very talented organists from the area play lovely melodies on the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ. The organ, restored by the Central Florida Theatre Organ Society, creates the sound of a full orchestra, including a variety of percussion instruments and a bevy of sound effects. The December show will feature Christmas music. Performance is FREE to the public. Dress is casual. Bring your lunch or snack and enjoy the show. The auditorium is next door to the police station, across from the Senior Center at 7690 59th St. For more information please call 727-546-0564. http://picasaweb.google.com/hgcpbc/Wome nsClubNov2008# Our annual Christmas party will be held on December 2nd at Feather Sound at 12 noon. We have a choice of three wonderful salads and the cost to members is only $5! The charge for guests is $15. Sis Manhard is selling tickets so contact her if you haven't got yours yet. DID YOU KNOW: That we have a resident Pinellas Park Police Department volunteer living in Mainlands? Marolyn Seanor lives in Unit 4. She has 21 years of experience with the St. Petersburg police department as an Adminstrative Assistant. Marolyn has worked as a legal advocate assisting domestic violence victims. She has completed several courses and training at the Citizens Police Academy and is a member of the Citizen's Road Patrol. She will bring any questions or concerns that you may have to the attention of the Pinellas Park Police for you. Call Marolyn at 561-0268. She is coming to Kaffee Klatch on December 11th as a guest speaker. Joe Billera bowled six games over 200 with a high game of 237 and a high series of 613. Bill Mangan bowled three games over 200 with a high game of 213 and a high series of 603. Sylvia Doyle rolled a 218 along with a 510 series. Dolores Alsleben has been steadily raising her average (up by six points) and has a season high game of 156. Newcomer Jack Sullivan has also shown steady improvement as demonstrated by bowling a game 55 pins over his average! The following lists some of the many noteworthy games and series of our bowlers for this period: If you haven't come to Bingo on Tuesday evening and had "Judi's delicious lunch" boy are you missing out. Ask Dale if he likes the hot dogs! I love the cheeseburgers! They are 1/4 pound burgers with lettuce and tomatoes, a pickle and chips for $2.25! They sure are good. Judi has husband Herb make the potato salad and other goodies like chili and macaroni salad, so we owe him a big thank you also. Our crowd has increased and so have our prizes. We have been fortunate for the last few weeks to have a $180 jackpot along with two $100 pots so come on down. Maybe you'll take some of this good money home. CRAFTY LADIES Fran Queen The group of “Crafty Ladies” meet on Mondays in the clubhouse for about 1 ½ hours. Some of us knit hats for newborns and one of us makes sweaters for unfortunate children overseas. Another makes lap robes for the elderly in nursing homes. Some crochet and do embroidery. We have a collection of needles avilable to share. At times we are able to help one another with a problem in their handiwork. Won't you come and join us and make some new friends?
