Dominus illuminatio mea, et salus mea, quem timebo? Dominus

mei, [ipsi] infirmati sunt, [et ceciderunt].

who do evil draw near, they stumble [and fall].
Offertory Antiphon
Illumina oculos meos, nequando obdoriam in morte: nequando

SACRED HEART NOVENA
On June 12, 2016, after the 10:15am mass, will be the conclusion of the Sacred Heart Novena.
FROM THE OGLE OFFICE
Dear Friends,
June is traditionally regarded by Catholic as the month
of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a title for Our Lord that focuses our
attention on His great love for us. In a certain sense, Sacred Heart
devotion has much in common with the devotion to the Divine
Mercy which has become so popular in our own time. Just as St
Faustina Kowalski was the visionary who received the Divine Mercy chapel in the twentieth century, so also our own St Margaret
Mary Alacoque was the visionary who received the great Promises of the Sacred Heart in the seventeenth century. Thus, the
month of the Sacred Heart in the Holy Jubilee Year of Mercy is a
double reminder of the reality of God’s love for us. His love is
beyond our human acts of love which are unavoidably wrapped
up with our egotism. Our lifelong task is to purify our earthly
loves of the element of self-love which is so often their motivating force. God’s love is the primordial expression of His desire
to share Himself, while our love is something that frequently has
a strong dose of self-interest.
The Gospel text that might be most helpful here is John 3:16-17:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that
everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have
eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through
Him.”
This text clearly reminds us that God loved the world from the
beginning; indeed, what creative person does not love his or her
own creation, from a work of art to a vegetable garden to a child?
God created us for eternal life, and it is we who have tossed away
the gift. But God refuses to take our “No” for an answer. He has
said “Yes” for us in the person of His Son who became one like us
in all things but sin, and who therefore redeems and restores us
to our original state of beauty. This is precisely what is meant by
the Divine Mercy: that God wants us to be restored to original
beauty through union with His Son. This doctrinal reality leads us
to the existential awareness that we are never alone, even in the
midst of the greatest darkness, because Christ has walked
through that dark valley as well and does so now with us. This
great awareness is intimately connected to our understanding of
the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ, as the Pilgrim church,
and as the expression of the Communion of Saints in our lived
experience. As such, we reflect upon the Sacred Heart of Jesus as
the affective reality of His love for us, and seek to cultivate our
love for him in a life of prayer, sacrifice and sacraments.
We encourage parishioners to support our parish feastday celebration on Saturday, July 16 with OLMC alumnus Bishop Raymond
Chappetto at the five o’clock multi-lingual Mass. We will include a
procession of banners of our blessed Mother under her various
titles. We also invite your help in bringing a dish to the International Food Festival to follow it immediately in the gym. Please
contact the committee if you can help.
Finally we offer congratulations to our wonderful English choir
who has recently celebrated their 25th year of continuous service
in our parish. We thank Lucille Catherine, Lenny and Michele and
all the members over the years, here and away, who have contributed so much to enhancing our liturgies and enabling to raise
God in the highest. You may enjoy the collage of photos in our
vestibules illustrating the interesting history and experiences of
our choir. New members are always welcome.
God love you,
Msgr. Sean G. Ogle
DE EL PASTOR
Queridos Amigos,
nuestra parroquia. Agradecemos a Lucille, Catalina, Lenny y Michel y
coro. Los nuevos miembros son siempre bienvenidos.
Dios los cuida,
Mons. Sean G. Ogle

MARK YOUR CALENDAR AMUSE SINGERS RETURN TO MT. CARMELJUNE 12, 2016
The wonderful choral group, Amuse Singers, is returning to
perform another beautiful concert. This program will feature
poetry by Teasdale, Carroll, Dickenson, Shakespeare, Shelly and
others, all set to music for a small ensemble of women's voices.
When Amuse performed here in February, it was the coldest
night of the year, 0 degrees, yet we had a warm and welcoming
audience that thoroughly enjoyed the concert. We hope that a
concert in June, with more agreeable weather, will yield a larger audience. The concert will take place at 5:00 PM, Sunday, June 12th, in the upper church. This is exquisite singing of
the highest caliber. You can hear a sample on their web site,
