The Empire City Garrison (http://www.501stecg.com/) is a New York/New Jersey based Star Wars
costuming group founded in May 1999. This group consists of individuals who show their love for Star Wars
by wearing detailed replica costumes of such favorite characters as Darth Vader, Stormtroopers,
ScoutTroopers, SnowTroopers, Jedi Knights, Bounty Hunters, etc. The Empire City Garrison routinely
attends local science fiction conventions, parades, blood drives, toy stores, and have participated in charity
events with many organizations including the Starlight Foundation, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia,
Shriners Hospital, and St. Vincents Hospital. The Empire City Garrison covers all of New York and New
Jersey and has a close association with the New England Garrison (CT, MA, RI, VT, NH and ME) and
Garrison Carida (PA, MD, DE, and WV).
The Empire City Garrison, the New England
Garrison(http://www.501neg.com/), and Garrison Carida(http://www.garrisoncarida.com) are part of a larger
worldwide organization called the 501st Stormtrooper Legion (http://www.501st.com/). The 501st
Stromtrooper Legion currently holds an 800+ membership base in 34 U.S. states and 16 countries
worldwide. The main mission of all members is to have fun and bring joy to the multitudes of Star Wars fans
throughout the world while also promoting Star Wars to a new generation. Recently, actor David Prowse,
the man who donned the mask of Darth Vader for all three of the original movies, has accepted the position

as Official Leader of the 501'st Stormtrooper Legion. Membership in the 501 is completely voluntary and
all that is required to join is a passion for Star Wars and a realistic costume.
The Empire City Garrison has had a very productive and exciting year in 2002 promoting many events in the
New York area. First, the garrison was present for the Star Wars: Magic of the Myth Exhibit at the Brooklyn
Museum of Art enhancing the exhibit experience for all visitors and assisting in membership recruitment.
Next, the garrison was present at the Star Wars Celebration II convention held in Indianapolis where Star
Wars creator George Lucas invited all 501st members to attend in uniform and donate their services.
Stormtroopers were also in attendance at the 1st Annual Tribeca Film Festival for a special charity prescreening of Episode II with the children and families of September 11th. Finally, the Empire City Garrison
worked with new charities such as the Light Up a Life Foundation (A division of the New York Weill Cornell
Medial Center of New York), Children's Aid Society, and the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit for which
money was raised during the recent IMAX premiere of Attack of the Clones.

The Empire City Garrison and the 501 legion operate as a non-profit, volunteer based organization and do
