Over the years, Ormco has been leading the Orthodontic Business and
innovations worldwide, in particular High-Growth Markets are essential in the
development process of Ormco’s vision.
Today we choose one of our fastest growing market, India, to host its first
Symposium which will be in Delhi on 24th and 25th of April.
We are bringing a panel of international and national speakers to share with
Indian orthodontists their experiences with Damon system and applying this in
Indian context.
Topics will include understanding the passive self-ligating system Damon, and its
applications in various clinical situations relevant to India. The use of TADs in
Damon mechanics and a comparison of various self-ligating products would also
be dealt with by the panel of speakers.
We would also like to encourage post-graduate students who have done studies
including Ormco products, to make poster presentations in this symposium – a
jury including our speakers would assess the best out of the submissions.

DMD from prestigious University of Pennsylvania School of
Dental Medicine, completed his orthodontic residency at the
University of Maryland. In 2001, he collaborated with Dr.
Dwight Damon on the development and education of the
Damon System of passive self-ligation, co-authoring “The
Damon Workbook”. He has delivered more than 300 lectures
on the Damon System worldwide.

Dr. Skander Ellouze
DDS (1982) from the Faculty of Monastir (TUNISIA),
post-graduate in orthodontics from the University of

published a book titled: Mini-Implants, Orthodontics for
Tomorrow. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of
Orthodontics at the University of Bordeaux (France) & a
member of European Orthodontic College (CEO).

MDS Orthodontics from the prestigious Mangalore College
of Dental Surgery, MAHE, Manipal. He did his M. Orth in 2001
and is registered with the RCS, London and RCPS Glasgow. A
Dip. of Indian Board of Orthodontics, with over fifty
publications in various Indian and foreign journals to his
credit as well as “The Textbook of Orthodontics” and a “Mini
Atlas on Orthodontics”.
Clinical Evaluation of self-ligating Damon System and the
competition
Talking about a product does not make it the best. It is always
important to know what is available in the market and how it
reacts in your day to day clinical practice. It is always better to
learn from someone else’s experience as compared to
putting your own hand into the flame!! With over 500 cases
treated using various self-ligating brackets available in the
Indian market, a clinical evaluation with their own pros- and
cons shall be discussed in detail and presented along with
case reports.

Dip. of Indian Board of Orthodontics. He completed his MDS
in 1988 from GDC Bangalore and has been a teacher for last
27 years. As a clinician he has treated large number of
patients with varying types of malocclusion and dento-facial
deformities.
Managing Class III with Damon, the passive self-ligating
system
Orthodontic science always strived hard to deliver the best
possible, both to patients and practicing Orthodontist. There
was a compulsion to invent a system which could shorten
the duration, and reduce the number of visits to the
Orthodontists office. P.E.As helped us to move the teeth more
predictably, but friction associated with conventional
‘ligation’ slows down the phase considerably. Self-ligating
brackets are primarily developed to obtain- Safe, Secure,
Quick and Hygienic ligation. Eventually it was realized that
because of the combination of Low Friction and Ultra-light
forces delivered by A- NITI wires, one can influence the
dento-alveolar complex to an extent which was thought
impossible by conventional mechanics. Orthodontics is an
art and science. We need to perfect the art of exploiting the
potential of ‘Passive SLB’ by practice. In this presentation, an
attempt is made to open a new horizon of possibilities
associated with Passive SLB – the Damon System, esp. w.r.t
Class III cases.
