It's all about homemade doggy dinners... Twin sisters Brittain Defeo and
Courtney Varela are the nutritionists/ chefs who prepared the only food
items included in the Obama's first-puppy gift basket. All the food items are
100% natural and made with real food. Vets have been recommending
the dinners and treats for ailing pets...often crediting the food for saving
the lives of very sick dogs.

Local dog chefs send treats to the
White House
Hope Obama family will encourage America's pet owners to feed their dogs fresh,
healthy food.
By CHRIS CAESAR
THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER
Aliso Viejo-based entrepreneurs Brittain DeFeo and Courtney Varela have prepared their
natural, homemade dog food for local pet-owners, Hollywood celebrities and more, but their
next project could nab them their biggest client yet – the Obama family.
Teaming up with Wow! Creations, a Beverly Hills-based marketing firm, the duo's
Homemade Doggy Dinners business will contribute some of their healthy meals to a doggie
gift basket that the new first family will receive sometime in February.
The sisters will include some of the most popular items on their menu, including "doggie
pizza", a jar of muttzarella sitcks and their specialty – frozen, homemade dinners made from
a variety of fresh ingredients. The team got their idea from their mother who, at the
suggestion of their veterinarian, started making homemade dinners for their diabetic,
childhood dog.
Both big supporters of the president-elect, the sisters say they hope the gifts will prompt
Obama to consider the merits of their health-conscious dog diets. All too often, they say,
pet-owners simply don't realize the poor ingredients and lack of regulatory oversight the
federal government exercises over dog food.
"We hope that more people recognize the benefits of 100 percent real food for dogs, and
that, if they see the president doing it, maybe they will too," DeFeo said. "We're hoping for
some change in regulations of dog food instead of just a bag of processed, so-called
ingredients being sold to the public."
"It's mainly just seeing what dogs like, and finding the best ingredients to make it as healthy
as possible," Varela said. "It has to be human-level quality."
In fact, Varela added, the treats have been known to tickle a few human palettes – such as
actor Scott Baio – and held out hope Obama himself might nosh on a chicken jerky or two
for the cameras.
But, despite their resonance with high-profile celebrities, the chefs were quick to note that
their customers can come from all walks of life, too.
"Our customers really come from all over the place – people in mobile homes to people in
high-end mansions," DeFeo said. "They just love their dogs and want to feed them well."
Cat-lovers who feel left out shouldn't fret – the duo says that, despite their allergies, they will
branch into the feline sector sometime in the future.
Interested readers can visit their Web site at www.homemadedoggydinners.com, or visit
the chefs from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday at the Farmer's Market in Irvine Center.

Dog and Baby Gifting Suite Brings Out Star Moms and Dads
The celebumoms and dads came out for the The Silver Spoon Dog and Baby
Gifting Suite at the Hyatt Century City in Los Angeles last weekend. Tori
Spelling, Ian Ziering, Samantha Harris, Shar Jackson, Scott Baio, Beverly
Mitchell (7th Heaven), Drew Lachey (with his wife Lea), and Jodie Sweetin
(Full House) were just some of the attendees.
Tori dropped in with son Liam and husband Dean in tow. The very expectant
mother picked up gifts for her new baby, including a Gita Manny diaper bag for
husband Dean, who said, “Man, this is an awesome manny bag! I wish I had this
when Liam was born.” There was also a bit of a 90210 reunion: Tori Spelling got
to introduce her son Liam to his honorary uncle, Ian Ziering, for the first time. Ian
ran up to Tori to give her a big hug and congratulate her on her next baby. They
caught up over a healthy snack--Nola Ice treats.
Ian wasn’t the only Dancing with the Stars cast member to grace the event. Mom Samantha Harris
stopped by the Gita Diaper display and liked the bags so much she switched her old diaper bag with a
Gita bag right there, throwing her old one away at the booth. Drew Lachey also left with one of Gita’s
manny diaper bags. He said “I also end up carrying my wife’s pink and purple one so I am VERY happy I
have a manny diaper bag!”
Actor Scott Baio and his wife also stopped by the event, picking up Lucky Kid togs and Love Me Baby
Me products for their newborn daughter, Bailey, who is six months old. Scott effused that “being a Dad is
the best thing in the world.” He also grabbed some Homemade Doggy Dinners for his pooch, saying, “the
Chicken Jerky Treats and Sweet Paw-tato Chips taste so good.” How does he know? He said he eats
them himself! Ugh.

Some of the hand selected vendors that were featured this year included: Boogie Wipes saline
nose wipes for kids; The Baby Planners pregnancy planning services; Boon Inc’s innovative
children’s products; Fierce Hugs organic baby clothing; GaGa Gourmet all natural baby food;

One of the biggest attractions this year was the doggy treats and snacks made by Homemade
Doggy Dinners. The guests and pooches could not get enough of these yummy treats and all
huddled around the displays discussing their favorite flavors. Ian Ziering’s dog Sparky and
Jennifer Morrison’s (House MD) Malti-Shu puppy Ava “couldn’t get enough of the Chicken
Jerky treats”. Scott Baio agreed with Ian and added that the “Sweet Paw-tato Chips tasted so
good” and threw one into his mouth. Susie Castillo and Beverly Mitchell commented on what a
great company Homemade Doggy Dinner was. Dogs seemed to respond so well to these
flavorful delights, the Homemade Dinners saved Shar Jackson’s yorkie who was hospitalized
for not eating. “The Doggy Dinners were exactly what I needed”.

Fairgrounds:
Homemade Doggy Dinners
We're finally starting to see more vendors who advocate a homemade natural diet for their
pets.
Here at My Pet Connection we can speak from our own personal experience as to the
benefits of feeding your pet nutritious, homemade food. Recently one of our 10-year old
Siamese cats had a bad bout of mast cell tumors on her skin. Our vet surgically removed a
lot of the cancer cells and we had her on liquid steroids to stop her from constantly licking
at the new outbreaks. However, the tumors just didn't seem to go completely away and she
began to lose more and more weight.
At one point she looked like a walking skeleton!
Then our cat sitter loaned us the book "The Veterinarian’s Guide to Natural Remedies for
Cats" by Martin Zucker. Based upon some of the recipes in the book we began to feed her a
combination of chicken, kale, flax seed oil, and a few supplements such as vitamin C,
vitamin E, and taurine. Within 6 weeks she gained back most of her pre-surgery weight and
the tumors are now completely gone!
We fully credit the better nutrition she was getting from our homemade cat food with
boosting her immune system.
Today she is more energetic and lively than she's been in the last 5 years! So obviously we
are very happy to see vendors advocating the benefits of natural homemade food for pets,
like Homemade Doggy Dinners.

food & treats were included in the gift basket that was presented to the first family after they adopted
their puppy, Bo.
Homemade Doggy Dinners is a family owned business in Aliso Viejo, CA, founded and run by
twin sisters, Brittain DeFeo and Courtney Varela. Their passion for dogs and cooking motivated them to
create a dog food company that is dedicated to homemade dog food, with ingredients only from the
USA.
For three years they have been providing homemade dog food and treats in Orange County and
Los Angeles. Homemade Doggy Dinners and their all natural, American made products have sparked
interest in the Hollywood community with numerous celebrity customers, enthusiastic for their healthy
and convenient, frozen Doggy Dinners and homemade treats.
With the excitement over our newly elected President, Barack Obama, Homemade Doggy
Dinners is thrilled to be a part of the Presidential First-Puppy Gift Basket, “We hope that more people

About Us
Homemade Doggy Dinners is a family owned and operated business. We are sisters
who grew up with three loving Bichon Frise's. Unfortunately, one was sick with
diabetes and suffering. Our mom approached the family vet with an idea to make her
own dog food that would be healthy for all three dogs. The vet gave her nutritional
information to make sure the food was well balanced and sufficient in vitamins. She
came up with a recipe that has evolved into what is now Homemade Doggy Dinners.
While completing our education in holistic health, we learned how much our health
and lifespan is affected by the food we consume. As we became more aware of our
health, we became more aware of our dogs health; we began to research the benefits of
homemade dog food. We were shocked to discover some sickening ingredients in most
commercial dog food which may cause symptoms such as, Diabetes, Cancer, Liver
Dysfunction, Sporadic Vomiting, Severe Skin Allergies, Obesity, and other ailments.
We realized our Mom was holding the secret to our dog’s health.
Our vision in starting this business is to bring a new concept in dog food; homemade
dog food made with 100% real human quality ingredients. Our intention is to supply
healthy homemade dog food to dog owners.
All dogs need and deserve REAL FOOD, not processed dry or canned ‘food’. We use
only the finest quality ingredients, including USDA approved, antibiotic and hormone
free meats, human quality rice, vegetables & fruit, flour, organic herbs, vitamins and
oils, all from the USA. At Homemade Doggy Dinners we pride ourselves in creating a
healthy diet for dogs.
We want to spread the word about the benefits of homemade dog food and to make
available a convenient, economical choice for those who want to give their dog the
greatest life.
Homemade Doggy Dinners is made with the love and care of a great homemade meal,
good enough for human consumption, but created specially with your dogs health in
mind.
Thank You,
Courtney & Brittain (Owners)
