CANCER AWARNESS WEEK FRIDAY OCTOBER 2ND – SUNDAY OCTOBER 11TH. FULL DETAILS IN FLYER AT END OF NEWSLETTER The Sling Shot Report To community members, courtiers, friends and family, This past month sure has been quite eventful, although there were only a few shows and events planned for September, the court sure did branch out and reach out to other organizations and community partners. These are the actions that are going to put our organization back on the front lines and hopefully build and rebuild bridges that are vital for a strong community. October is quite full mostly for Cancer Week so I will let Empress 40 Krystyna Shaylee talk about that. Although, I would like to encourage everyone to get out to those events, bring a friend and spread the word. As some of you know a dear friend from my high school days, Ryan Tomac, lost his battle with cancer August 25th 2015 at the age of 20. He had battled cancer for a long-year, surviving with the love of his family, friends and the community. He loved baseball and his Tooele High School team, who really loved him in return. I miss him dearly. This work our organization does to help raise funds for Cancer Awareness, Aids Awareness. Etc. is not over yet. With the advances of technology and treatments, people are living with their conditions, but those like Ryan were taken from us too soon. So please, help out any which way you can, inspire your friends to get involved and together we can someday meet for an event that isn’t raising money for Cancer, Aids, Etc. On the much lighter side of things, Portland is coming up, Krystyna and I will be representing The Royal Court of The Golden Spike Empire for the Golden Jubilee Friday, Oct 23, 2015. They are still selling tickets if you would like attend please check out impcourt.org for information. That same weekend is Coronation, so anyone who wanting to walk with their given titles, please send your protocol to Emperor 34 Austyn Riley at least a week prior to the coronation so we can finalize and get that turned in. I am so proud of how everyone is coming together as a “team… and making the dream work”. Thank you so much, you are all beautiful people! The Emerald Studded Leather Emperor The Smile of the Spike H.M.I.M Emperor XL Nathan Louise Graham Let’s Have a Kiki Greetings RCGE, Friends, Family, College Members and Guests, September has come and gone and now Fall is upon us. Soon it will be holiday season and with that means Snowball is getting closer and closer. I know Kirsten and Kennedy are working very hard and plan for a successful event. If you are able to help in any way or would like to be involved, please feel free to contact them. A big thank you to the Pageant Committee for planning and organizing a successful pageant with our Annual Closet Ball pageant. We were at the Murray Eagles which is a great venue with tons of space. A big thank you to the patrons of the Murray Eagles for welcoming us and your hospitality when we are there. Our New Winners and newest court members are Millionaire (Sommer Cherryhomes) sponsored by Mr. Golden Spike Universe Xander Flink and Kymmy Shaylee (Tim Quigley) Sponsored by your truly. I know all the sponsors had fun in the back and in turn the contestants had a great time all evening as well. Marky Mark hosted a very emotional, fantastic, and touching tribute show to our Service Men and Woman “Same Gave All, All Gave Some”. All the numbers were great we had 2 Veterans in the Audience and 1 active service man. The $500 raised that evening will go to the PWA Christmas fund. The American Cancer Society had reached out to me and asked if the RCGSE would be willing to be involved in providing entertainment at their annual Relay for Life. I thought this would be a great opportunity to get out there and reconnect the Utah community and other organizations as Nate and I when we came up with the reign of Change, Hope, and Diversity really want to get out and get back involved with other organizations and or make new connection. Crown Princess 40 Kery Shaylee, Court Member Yamileth, and I performed a few numbers for the crowd and we were also able to present to the American Cancer Society a check of $1,000 from the RCGSE. Thank you to the court members who came out to support us and represent the RCGSE (Tracie, Chyna, Juan, Scottie, Marky Mark, and Crown Prince 40 Erik) Because of our moment at the Relay for Life and the perfect timing of the annual Making Strides against Breast Cancer 5K walk on October 10th I felt moved to get a team together of RCGSE members to walk as part of our annual Cancer Awareness Week. If you are interested in walking please let me know it is Free to walk, though this is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society so donations of any amount are welcome and will be put forth from the RCGSE team. For every $300 we are able to raise Myself, Kennedy, Kery, and Sheneka will walk the 5K in full drag and HEELS! If you are interested in donating please let me know I have an app from the American cancer society that will directly to our team or you can find out team on the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer website. Again any donation of any amount will be helpful, it would be great if we can raise $1200 and have all 4 us walking in HEELS for a cause that is so great and dear to many of us I am sure. Also please see the last page of the newsletter for full event details for an exciting and fantastic Cancer Awareness that my many cohosts and I have planned. I hope to see as many of you out as possible or if you are not able to attend, but would like to donate to the week events please let me know. Looking forward to a fun filled October and Looking forward to seeing many of you out and about. Again I cannot thank you enough for all of your love, support and Ideas. I truly am humbled and thankful to be your Empress! I love you all and am very aware that we are not able to achieve greatness without each and every one of you! xoxoxo C’MON 40!!!! I will remain: The Radiant Ruby Hearted Latina Empress The Radiance of the Spike H.M.I.M Empress 30 & 40 Krystyna Shaylee Prince’s Royal Ramblings Aloha RCGSE friends and family, I hope everyone is ready for Cancer week and all of the amazing events that our wonderful Empress has been working hard to plan. Please make sure you come to as many events as you possibly can! I guarantee everyone will have a blast raising money to assist so many people who are fighting cancer. I can promise you this, as long as our friends and family keep fighting the good fight to beat cancer, I will continue to raise money this year and every year until we find the cure! LIVESTRONG!!! Many people have seen me wear my yellow live strong bracelet and asked why i never take it off (especially when we are all dressed up), here is the backstory. I played College Softball at Weber State University from 2002-2005, my Junior year my Coach "Hash" was diagnosed with cancer and it was about the same time the LIVESTRONG foundation had launched the Yellow Bracelets to remind everyone that cancer has an impact on everyone in one way or another. I went out and purchased bracelets for everyone on the team and we made a promise to Hash that we would continue to Live strong and Play Strong as long as he was willing and ready to fight like hell to beat cancer. Half way through that year my body decided that it was time for me to stop playing Softball and i woke up one day and couldn’t walk, I had fractured my back and shattered 2 discs in my lower back. I was forced to stop playing ball and move home to await back surgery. I called my coach and told him the news, he reminded me that he was fighting like hell to beat cancer and it was my turn to fight like hell to make it back on the Softball field, and that day the deal was made and set in stone. Two short months later Hash lost his battle with cancer, but we made a deal and i was not done with my end of it. I knew that i got to wear this bracelet until there was a cure. It is a constant reminder on how I get to live my life every day! SNOWBALL!!!! Please Save The Date: December 13th 2015 at the Rose Wagner Preforming Arts Center. Mahlo, Prince Royal XL Kirsten Prespentt Christie From hell Passionate Inspiring Black Onyx Fireball Prince An Elegant Exposition Dear friends, Kirsten and I are focusing on Snowball and are working hard to ensure it is a successful and enjoyable night for all! In an effort to raise even more money, donation letters will be sent out to many different organizations and foundations in and around Salt Lake City asking for a contribution to the cause. Whether that is raffle prizes or monetary donations, every little bit counts! We will also have several letters at court and board meetings for those of you who may know of someone or a business that would be willing to donate. Thank you in advance for your help!! In closing I would like to congratulate the pageant committee on a very successful Closet Ball along with the winners. It was a lot of fun and that particular pageant will always hold a very special place in my heart. For those of you that don’t know, that is the very first time I ever stepped out of the house in drag to attend an RCGSE event and I was scared to death. The monarchs at the time (Rhett and Felicia) along with the other past monarchs and court members whom were in attendance that evening, were so open and welcoming, Kennedy was officially born (even though I was FAR from pretty). I will never forget that feeling of acceptance and I am forever grateful to those that made an impact on my life that evening MANY years ago. I didn’t only gain new friends, I gained a family. I love you all!! Lights Camera Action Greetings RCGSE Family and Friends, The quote for this month that I would like to share with you is from Omar Nelson Bradley. Omar was a General of the United States Army. He was the last of only nine people to hold five-star rank in the United States Armed Forces. “Dependability, integrity, the characteristic of never knowingly doing anything wrong, that you would never cheat anyone, that you would give everybody a fair deal. Character is a sort of an all-inclusive thing. If a man has character, everyone has confidence in him” – Omar Nelson Bradley Also anyone interested in hosting an event that is needing the court sound system please contact me for availability. In addition anyone who is wanting to learn how to run and set up the sound system please contact me at [email protected] From the soundboard of the RCGSE. I swear these months are moving faster than they should be. September was a great month. Filled with new fun memories and experiences that I won’t forget. We started off this month being able to perform at the Relay for Life downtown. The American Cancer Association has just opened a new facility called Hope Lodge. This new lodge will house many patients and their travelers as they undergo the process of fighting cancer. It was a great experience to be able to not perform but to also make connections with people who are work for ACA or those that support the organization to one day find a cure. We definitely are hoping to keep this relationship going and be invited back and support such a wonderful cause. Next on our list was the Closet Ball Pageant. It was great to be able to sponsor one of the contestants and see the transformations. Congratulations to Kymmy Shaylee and Million Aire and the new Closet Ball King and Queen. We had a wonderful event hosted by Markey Mark, to benefit the PWA fund. The show was set up to honor our service men and women. We had a great turn out and at times to see the emotion from the crowd while there was a singer or performer on stage was truly amazing. Again, it was a type of show that renewed my faith. It made me remember how important it is to help out our friends and community. This is why we are the RCGSE. We also had our monthly FHE. Crown Prince Erik Shaylee and I had the opportunity to host and have a spaghetti bar. It was a fun evening to visit and catch up with friends and family. Lastly, don’t forget this month is Cancer Awareness and Empress 40, Krystyna Shaylee, has a great week planned. I hope to see everyone out to as many of the events as possible. I love our community and the RCGSE! Let’s keep this momentum and do great things!! With Love, Crown Princess 40 Kery Shaylee xoxoxo Octoer 2nd – 11th Cancer Awarness week.
