of sale within the MVV network area.
The CityTourCard
Getting around and saving on entrance fees: this is the CityTourCard. This ticket for
discoverers is available as a day ticket for the Inner District or as a 3-day-ticket and
as 4-day-ticket for the Inner District or the Entire Network. The CityTourCard includes
discounts for more than 60 tourist attractions from theatres to museums, sights to
sightseeing trips. The CityTourCard is available as a Single or Partner Ticket (for a group
of up to 5 adults or 10 children between 6 and 14 years of age). You can buy the ticket

Relaxed from the Airport to the inner city
Landed safely – what now?
Takeoff. Well planned!
From Munich Airport, S-Bahn lines S1 and S8 run to the city centre. They run alternately
every 10 minutes, with the S1 going via Munich West and the S8 via Munich East. The trip
takes around 40 minutes.
You can use the Airport-City Day Ticket for your trip to the airport, which is available from the
ticket machines at most S-Bahn stations. Up to 5 people may travel with the partner version
of the ticket.
The Entire Network Day Ticket can be used for the same purpose, and – since it is not automatically validated upon purchase – this ticket can also be bought in advance when you‘re
planning your trip. If you live close to the airport, the Outer District Day Ticket would be a
cheaper option. Alternatively you can use a Single Trip Ticket or a Stripe Ticket.

Good to know
For: Single Tickets and Stripe Tickets
For: Short Trips
The Zones
The Short Trip
The price of single trips and the number of stripes to validate on a stripe ticket depends on
how many of the four zones within the MVV region you are travelling through. You need to
count the number of zones you pass through in order to find out the right price for your ticket.
For example, if you leave one zone in the north and then enter it again in the south, this zone
will count twice. From four zones on the price remains the same. You must know the exact
number of zones you need before you buy a Single Trip Ticket because it’s available for one,
two, three or four zones. With the Stripe Ticket adults have to validate two stripes per zone.
You take one or two stops by S- or U-Bahn, then maybe another one or two by bus or tram.
Or you take the tram or bus for up to four stops from the point of departure. These are called
short trips for which you buy a Short Trip Single Ticket. In the districts outside Munich, every
bus journey within the district boundary is classified as a short trip. Of course, you can also
validate one stripe of the Stripe Ticket instead of buying a Short Trip Single Ticket.
You can even interrupt your journey, provided that you do not exceed the maximum travel
time of one hour – that ist he validity of the ticket.
Example: the journey from the airport to Olympiazentrum crosses four zones. So you
would need a Single Ticket for four zones or to validate eight stripes of your Stripe Ticket.
Example: to go from Ostbahnhof (East Station) to Maxmonument, you travel two stops
on the S-Bahn (urban rail) to Isartor and two stops on tram service 18 to Maxmonument.
So it’s a journey of four stops, of which only two involve the S-Bahn – the short trip tariff
applies.
The Zones
For: Day Tickets
The Areas
The inner zone, which covers the whole of Munich city and certain surrounding areas, is
called the Inner District. It is shaded white on our maps. The three other zones are collectively known as the Outer Districts. The white and the green areas are referred to as
Munich XXL.

The Rings
Electronic journey planner (elektronische Fahrplanauskunft EFA)
We have broken the MVV network down into 16 rings for our weekly and monthly
passes. The price is based on the number of rings you will travel through. You can use all
lines in all directions within your chosen rings.
Example: if you live in Haar and buy a weekly or monthly pass for rings 1 - 4, this ticket
enables you to travel within the entire Inner District as your ticket covers rings 1 - 4.
Validity of the IsarCard Weekly Pass
The weekly pass is valid on seven consecutive days. Furthermore, the ticket remains valid
until 12 noon on the next day.
Rules on who or what you are permitted to travel with:
Children under the age of 6 travel for free, provided that they are accompanied by
someone over 6. One dog travels free of charge – if you have a valid ticket. The animal
must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle if it could be a risk to other passengers. Each
additional dog requires a children’s ticket if not travelling in a basket or a bag.
You are tempted by a new sales outlet in an unknown part of the city? You want
to see your friends? Just go ahead! Our electronic timetable information EFA (elektronische Fahrplanauskunft) tells you within seconds how to reach your destination easily with the MVV. Just enter the name of the stop or the address, done.
EFA provides you with customised data for your journey, the fares and the right ticket with
just one click.
The best thing is to bookmark EFA in your web browser!
