Music & Movies on the Green Music August 6: Steve King & the Dittilies Classic Rock Movies – at dusk August 6: The LEGO Movie (following the concert) August 13: Frozen Members: Al Beke Jesse Polan Norma Pope John Pulker Anna Marie Roediger Lori Seltzer Robin Terebelo, Membership Chair Sponsor a Part of Franklin Villager Sponsored by the Franklin Community Association 70 VOL. 46, NO. 2 th Annual Franklin Labor Day Round Up! JOIN THE FUN! MONDAY, SEPT. 1, 2014 Franklin Please stop by and admire our new bench, located along Franklin Road just south of the library. Generous families have sponsored four more benches for around the Village. There is still time to sponsor a piece of Franklin—from an individual, a family, a neighborhood, a team, or in memory of a loved one. Plaques with donors names and your choice of message are also available and will be placed on your bench. Bench cost is $1185, plaque is $320 and the FCA will handle shipping costs. To reserve a bench, please contact Jane Polan with any questions: 248.626.2231, email: [email protected]. Recycle The Villager! Franklin Villager The Franklin Villager is sponsored by the Franklin Community Association and sent to all residents of the Village. Send your information to: Franklin Villager Editor Michelle Delacourt 248.515.1448 [email protected] THE ROUND UP HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE! Enjoy Franklin’s 70th Annual Round-Up on Labor Day, Monday Sept. 1. With so much to offer, you don’t have to look very far for fun times with friends in Franklin! Letter President’s Usually my president’s letters have the tone,“How wonderful to live in Franklin, the atmosphere, the events…” but this time, not so. SUMMER 2014 I am at a loss as to how to convey to you, especially younger residents and new Villagers, the importance of your role in the community. If the majority of people who come to Franklin have the attitude, “It’s great here, I love my house, I love walking the streets, taking the dog to the park, playing a little tennis…” Franklin as we know it will not continue. Along the lines of Kennedy’s old speech, “Ask not what Franklin can do for you, but what you can do for Franklin,” and I am not just talking about my personal goal of getting villagers to volunteer for the Round Up. Each of us needs to support the Village – I feel everyone (not the 46% we get) needs to join the FCA (we own the park, the tennis courts, the gazebo and pay for insurance, grass cutting, repair, resurfacing…), donate to other Franklin organizations, the Historical Society, Main Street, the Arts Council (how do you think they bring you the concerts?)…do some shopping in Franklin, use the services, cleaners, the bank, the Grill, buy a book at the Farmhouse Coffee and Ice Cream (and some ice cream)…come to the Farmer’s Market – we love saying we have one – do you come? Do you have an affiliation with a food or drink service company, a sign maker, truck rental, restaurant supply, fencing company, a service we can use in the village…a contact that will help us get a marching band at the parade, and floats? Do you have a home to share for the Taste of Spring strolling dinner? I am tired of hearing “I am too busy” (I can tell you all about busy). It is time to step up. We do have several new residents who have come forward on their own, repairing the playground, weeding and trimming. Our appreciation to those who contribute. Do you have two hours a month for Mobile Watch, two a year for the Round Up, enjoy kids and crafts, want to help create and drop off our welcome packets? Lots of ways to get involved, just call or email. Please consider giving of yourself to Franklin. Jane Polan, FCA President 248.626.2231 [email protected] Franklin Community Association: Join Today! Is your name on pages 6 & 7? Don’t be left out—get on the list—join the FCA today! Members joining after this publication will be listed in our next villager. When you join, your support goes to help fund many of the great programs in Franklin that many take for granted: Music & Movies on the Green, the Labor Day Round Up (which has been going strong for 70 YEARS!), the Franklin Villager, Franklin Directory, Mobile Watch, FCA Grounds (tennis courts, playground, ball fields, gazebo)— just to name a few. The FCA offers so many great things, please join. It fosters such a sense of community to walk through your Village and know YOU play a part to support all the great things people enjoy. Membership dues—now $50—can be sent to Membership Chair Robin Terebelo, 26510 Irving. Stay in the Loop Franklin Historical Society Upcoming Events Sunday, Sept. 14, 2 P.M.: Civil War cemetery tour.
