He was 76. Kurt was an avid horseman who was involved in many facets of the sport. He founded the Bucks County Horse Park, was one of the founding members of the Bucks County Polo Club, and was a past member of the Huntingdon Valley Hunt. Kurt and several friends started the Bucks County Polo Club in 1991 and played on the fields located at the Bucks County Horse Park. For about 12 years the club had an ambitious schedule of league games as well as numerous scheduled games with neighboring clubs in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Various USPA cup games were hosted and played at the grounds during that time. New players were introduced to the sport and trained in the basics by the Windfield Polo School that was co-owned by Kurt and Peg Loubris. Many of these students are still actively playing polo around the country. Kurt’s crowning and most enduring achievement in the horse world was the founding of the Bucks County Horse Park, which was developed over a 17- year period, beginning in 1986. With his farm as the central property, Kurt and his wife Barbara bought neighboring farms as they came on the market. In this way they assembled a large area of open space, which was then available for use by members. For a nominal annual fee, riders of all disciplines could ride on trails and across fields in a park-like setting, train in show and dressage rings, or practice on cross-country courses. During 2002, the last year of Kurt’s direct, active involvement in the park, 40 locally and nationally recognized horse shows were held, 40 polo matches were played and the park had 750 members. Subsequently 134 acres, which included the show rings and the central portion of the park, were sold to Bucks County as part of their park system. Today shows, hunter paces, and various activities are run by the private management of the Horse Park. In addition to the 134 acres, miles of deed-dedicated trails are still enjoyed by the members. Kurt was a visionary who recognized the importance of securing open space in areas that are often developed into housing tracts. He believed in sharing his passion for horse-related activities and fun with like-minded friends.
