During this deep and prolonged economic downturn, we thought 2009 and
2010 would be our most challenging years. In reality, during fiscal year
2011 we served a record number of metro Atlanta’s homeless men, women
and children — a 20% increase over 2010, and an overall 49% increase since
2008.

Most heartbreaking for us continues to be the ever-increasing numbers of
children turning to Crossroads for help. During fiscal year 2011 we experienced a 33% increase in the number of children — and a nearly
350% increase in the number of children since 2008.

We also saw a 44% increase in the number of veterans

A 46% increase in Guests ages 62 and over

And a 700% increase in the number of chronically homeless
Once again — thanks to hundreds of dedicated volunteers and donors — we
are deeply grateful to have just barely made our revenue goals this fiscal
year. However, our revenue did not increase in proportion to the sharp
increase in demand for Crossroads’ emergency / essential and now housingrelated services.
Clearly during the coming years we need to significantly increase all key
revenue streams to continue to ensure we meet the needs of our homeless
neighbors who turn to Crossroads for help.

What’s New — Housing Solutions
...for women and children,
and chronically homeless men with a disability
Housing Renewal for Women and Children




We have been placing women and their children
into safe, affordable apartments for over two
years now.
Through fiscal year 2011 — 132 total women
and children had been placed into housing.
During 2011 we also began to raise the bar by
providing basic furnishings and essentials for
those placed into housing.
To help these families sustainably end their
homelessness — we are now increasingly
focused on helping the women transition from
minimum-wage employment to living-wage
employment.
Angels Permanent Supportive Housing
...for chronically homeless men with a mental and/or physical disability



During 2010 we began pursuing special HUD
funding, and in early 2011 we received confirmation of our award.
The special HUD funding will enable us to
house 10 chronically homeless men with a physical and/or mental disability.
Currently our plan is to launch this new housing
solutions program during the fall of 2011.

Help Office and Mail Room
...a primary first stop for those
homeless in metro Atlanta
Crossroads is a primary first stop for over 4,300 homeless men,
women and children each year. The Help Office and Mail Room
accommodate over 60,000 repeat Guest visits each year. And
thanks to the generosity of GE — the Help Office and Mail Room
at Crossroads were completely renovated ...top to bottom.
Emergency / essential services are provided at no charge to our
Guests by the Help Office and Mail Room:




A total of 4,302 Guests were served — and over
60,000 repeat visits were accommodated
Each new Guest seeking Crossroads’ assistance attends a required orientation that highlights for them
the range of help Crossroads can provide
About half of our Guests arrive without any legal
identification — and it’s impossible to end homelessness, rent a home or get a job without it — last year
we acquired a total of 1,737 birth certificates, and
1,533 Georgia IDs
A total of 6,528 MARTA cards were provided to help
Guests get to job interviews, medical and other important appointments

Clyde’s Kitchen
...serves over 74,000 meals each year
Clyde Corbin has been the Kitchen director for over 24 years now.
He, his small staff, and dedicated volunteers rise before dawn to
serve about 250 hot, nourishing meals each day.
Sylvia Campbell (pictured top right with Clyde), a proud retiree from Coca-Cola, has now been the Kitchen Volunteer Coordinator for 10 years ...2001 to 2011, and still counting!

Group Sandwich Makes — groups from companies like
Georgia Power, King and Spalding, Kilpatrick
Stockton, Hunton & Williams and more made and do-
nated thousands of sandwiches.

Atlanta Falcons players continue to arrive before each
Thanksgiving to serve a delicious meal for Guests — and kick
off the holiday season.

Groups like Dunwoody Brownie Troop 29414 did food
drives to ensure the Kitchen had the staple foods and supplies
they need on an ongoing basis — and raised over $300.

For well over 20 years now, the Friday group from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church volunteered in the
Kitchen.

And the volunteers with St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s
Mustard Seed Garden grew — and donated to Clyde’s
Kitchen — a whopping 1,000+ pounds of fresh produce.

Volunteers are the Special
Ingredient at Crossroads
Each year hundreds of people donate thousands of volunteer hours — and
those volunteers help make incredible things happen.
Below are highlights of just some of our amazing volunteers...

GE this fiscal year — in addition to continuing to volunteer in the
Crossroads Kitchen — donated all the materials, expertise and volunteers to renovate the Help Office and Mail Roomtop to bottom.

UPS volunteers continue to volunteer in the Crossroads Kitchen, and
they helped us brainstorm ways to involve other companies.

Volunteers from law firms like King & Spalding, Kilpatrick
Stockton and Hunton & Williams again did group sandwich
makes — and donated thousands of sandwiches to Clyde’s Kitche.

Each week attorney Peter Odom, with The Odom Law Firm, works
in the all-volunteer Mail Room at Crossroads. And when Guests have
legal matters that prevent them from continuing to move toward ending
their homelessness — Peter provides pro-bono legal services that help
remove barriers and obstacles.
It is because of the talented, dedicated volunteers with special talents and
treasures who so generously help us — that Crossroads is able to provide
emergency / essential / supportive services to over 4,300 of our homeless
neighbors in need at no charge to them.
