General Information
Why is Girl Scout Camp Important?
Girl Scout camp provides a magical place where girls try new things in a safe, non-threatening environment.
Girl Scout camp is a community of friends where girls feel a sense of belonging and build relationships.
Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to gain skills and values to handle the challenges of adulthood.
Refunds: The balance of program fees may be refunded if
notice of cancellation is received at least two weeks prior to the beginning
of camp. Early notice will make it possible for another girl to attend
camp. Refunds will not be made for campers arriving late, leaving early,
or attending partial sessions.
Refunds in the amount of $9.99 or less will be given in the form of a
store credit. All other refunds will be issued as a check, regardless of
form of original payment. Please allow 2-4 weeks processing time. The
only time the “non-refundable” registration fee will be refunded is when
we are not able to place your camper into a program due to a wait list,
or due to a program being cancelled by the Council. Cookie Credit used
will be returned to account, and will not be refunded in the form of a cash
refund.
Please call the Director of Program Services at 918-745-5220 or
800-707-9914 ext. 220 to discuss any extenuating circumstances.
Financial Assistance:
Is available for any registered
Girl Scout who doesn’t have enough Cookie Credit and who would not
otherwise be able to attend camp. Any Cookie Credit available from the
current year sale will be applied to the balance before financial assistance
is considered. If you feel you have a need for assistance with the balance
of your camp fees, check the box on the registration form and an
application will be mailed to you upon acceptance into the program.
The application needs to be completed and returned as soon as possible
for consideration. As soon as the request has been evaluated, you
will be mailed a letter stating the amount granted and the balance due,
if any. All information received regarding financial assistance is NOT
shared with anyone, including your daughter’s troop leader, and will
remain confidential.
More than one Girl Scout in Your
Family Registering:
Cookies and Camp:Cookie Credit may be applied to
the balance of the camp fee. A certificate indicating the Cookie Credit
earned will be given to each Girl Scout by the Troop Cookie Manager.
If you want to use Cookie Credit, be sure to check the box on the
registration form. Cookie Credit cannot be used to pay for any of the
non-refundable registration fees.
You will receive a discount for each additional Girl Scout in your family
signing up for any camp program. For example, the first Girl Scout pays
the full fee for her program; additional Girl Scouts receive a discount of
the camp fee for their programs. See Camp Tallchief schedule and Day
Camp registration form for details. The discount cannot be taken off the
non-refundable registration fee. The registration fee must be paid in full.
Acceptance and participation in all Council programs is open to all girls
regardless of race, disability, ethnicity, creed, national origin, or
socio-economic status.
American Camp
Association:
Girl Scouts of Magic Empire Council voluntarily
allows its Day and Resident Camping practices
to be compared with up to 300 standards
established by camp professionals. ACA
standards are recognized by courts of law and
government regulators as standards of the
camping industry. At least once every three
years, an outside team of trained professionals
observe camps in session to verify compliance
with standards for health, safety and program
quality. Accreditation assures parents that
camp practices are comparable with national
standards and go a step beyond many state
and federal laws. Only 30 percent of an
estimiated 850 Day and Resident Camps seek
accreditation.

WHAT IS DAY CAMP?
Day Camp is exactly what the word implies – camp by day, home by night. Day Camp is a fun-filled week of basic Girl
Scout camping which teaches those first essential skills – building fires, preparing a campsite, setting up a tent, and learning
to work as a team. At Day Camp, girls begin to gain that outdoor self-confidence for which Girl Scouts are famous. This
year the activities are centered on the theme “Oklahoma!”.
WHO MAY ATTEND?
Any Girl Scout may attend Magic Empire Council Day Camp. Non-Girl Scouts may attend too, as space allows. Young
children (3-5 years old) of Day Camp staff have their own preschool unit. Sons of Day Camp staff, six years and older, have a
unit too.
REGISTRATION
Our great Day Camps fill up quickly. There are a maximum number of girls that may attend a Day Camp based on
the adult volunteers available to staff that Day Camp. Register as soon as possible. Registrations are accepted until the
camp is full or through May 1.
Each participant must register individually, including preschoolers and boys.
Print or type all information on the registration form. Registrations cannot be processed without the deposit and
parent’s signature. Signatures must be in ink.
Mail or bring the registration to any one of Magic Empire Council’s three offices:
2432 East 51st Street, Tulsa, 74105
2411 West Okmulgee, Muskogee, 74401
315 West 12th Street, Stillwater, 74074
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation of placement and a
bill for the balance due will be sent
to you mid-May. The balance of the
Day Camp fee is due at the Girl Scout
Service Center two weeks before the
camp begins.
VOLUNTEER STAFF
Volunteers staff all Magic Empire Council Day Camps. In this way the Council is
able to keep the cost of Day Camp low. Please remember that everyone working to
provide Day Camp for your daughter, including the Day Camp Director, is there
because they want to be.
Also remember that Day Camp cannot happen without these volunteers. If
you are able to volunteer, please complete the attached Volunteer Staff
Application form and send it with your daughter’s registration. There are many
positions available: roamer, bus monitor, unit leader, unit assistant and program
consultants.
For further information about becoming a volunteer staff member, call the Day
Camp Director at the phone number listed on the attached schedule.
Be sure to check out our Web site at www.mecgs.org!

Resident Camp
Camping at Tallchief and Swannie
Nestled in the Osage Hills near Sand Springs, Camps Tallchief and
Swannie provide the perfect setting for girls to have the traditional
summer camp experience. Resident Camping is Council sponsored,
and the Council provides the total staff, equipment, facilities, and
site. Resident Camping is an individual girl activity where a girl spends
three to thirteen days living at our beautiful camps on Zink Ranch.
You will sleep in a cabin, lodge, tent, bunkhouse, or yurt – depending
upon your age and which program you select. Counselors sleep
in separate quarters adjacent to the campers. When you arrive,
campers will be directed to their sleeping quarters and supervised
by unit staff counselors. Kapers (daily chores) such as setting the
dining hall tables and cleaning the latrines are part of each dayʼs
activities to help you develop a sense of responsibility,
community, and appreciation for keeping the camp neat and tidy.
With the guidance of the unit staff, you will help plan portions of the
daily activities throughout the session. Camp activities are tailored
to your age and camping experience. Each session offers specific activities and some are strictly limited to age and skill
level. Check the session descriptions for those that fit your interests, age, and abilities.
Are you ready for Resident Camp fun?
You may be wondering if you are ready for Resident Camp. If this will be your first summer at Camp Tallchief, you may
want to consider some preparation that might help make your camp experience more fun and rewarding.
Talk with your parents about camp. Decisions about camp should be a joint venture. Discuss what camp will
be like. Camp has a routine daily schedule that may not be anything like your schedule at home. Consider
role-playing anticipated camp situations, such as using a flashlight to find the bathroom at night. Will you be comfortable
sleeping in a cabin with other girls, knowing your counselor is in a nearby cabin room? If you take part in the
decision-making process, your chances of having a positive experience improve.
Think of camp as a learning experience. While you are away for a week, or even three days, you can develop
a stronger sense of self, make new friends, develop social skills, learn teamwork and use your creativity for projects
and problem solving.
Have realistic expectations. Not every moment of camp will be filled with excitement. The purpose of camp is to
have fun and relax – not to earn badges.
Camp is not home, sweet home. Some girls may experience homesickness once they are at camp. Have you
spent at least one night away from home? Are you comfortable being away from home and family? If possible,
visit the camp ahead of time. Magic Empire Council hosts a Camp Open House before summer camp begins.
Living Arrangements
Camp Tallchief has a lodge, two outdoor living centers, and a bunkhouse. Camp
Swannie has six yurts and the treehouse. The Tallchief lodge has sleeping
quarters for 34 campers. Each living center is a cluster of 4 cabin sets, one
latrine/shower house and kitchen shelter. Each cabin sleeps 10 campers and 2
unit staff. The bunkhouse sleeps 20 campers and 4 unit staff. Four of the yurts
sleep 8 girls each and 2 yurts sleep 3 unit staff each. The treehouse sleeps
28 campers and 8 staff. Most meals are taken in the Dining Hall of the lodge, but
sometimes dinner is cooked over a campfire. After a hearty dinner, sing songs on
the Singing Porch, then relax in your cabin while the night sounds lull you to sleep.
Camp Tallchief Will Host
an Open House
From 6-8 p.m. on
Saturday, June 2, 2007.

Green Feather
This award is presented to those girls

Registration and Waiting List Procedures
Resident Camp grows in popularity each year. It is important for all Council members to have a fair and equal chance to
participate in the program of their choice.
• Registrations must be received (not postmarked) by Wednesday, March 21, 2007 and can be either mailed or brought to
one of the three Council offices - Stillwater, Muskogee or Tulsa to be included in the drawing.
• Registrations must include the $15.00 non-refundable registration fee.
• If your daughterʼs name is drawn, a Parent Packet and confirmation will be sent to you the first week of April.
• In order to allow for equal opportunity for all girls to attend at least one session of camp, only one registration per girl
will be accepted for the initial placement.
• A girl may turn in additional registration forms after April 1 if she desires to attend camp more than once.
• Faxed registrations will not be accepted.
• Registrations cannot be processed without the registration fee and parentʼs signature in ink.
• To be placed on a waiting list for a program at camp you must send in a registration with the registration fee. Girls on

SCHEDULE NOW!
Expected Camper Behavior
Campers are expected to demonstrate behavior that
respects the rights of others. All campers will sign the
Camp Tallchief Camper Agreement, which you will receive
with your Parent Packet. This agreement binds campers to
the elements of the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Campers
exhibiting inappropriate behavior will be sent home WITH
NO REFUND.
The Health Information form is actually a combination of
two forms.
• The Health History form is on the front and is to be
completed by the parent/guardian. This form is required
for every camper, and for every session she attends! The
adult attending “He & Me” or “Small & Tall” must also
complete an Adult Health History form.
• The Camp Physical form, which is on the back, is to be
completed by a physician and is required if your camper
is spending three or more nights at camp. Campers who
require a camp physical must have it administered within
one year of the start date of the session. Physicals
obtained for school sport functions are acceptable.
• The Camp Physical is not required if your camper is
going to “He & Me”, “Small & Tall”, or “Mini-Camp”,
because she will not be spending three or more nights at
camp. The Camp Physical is required for all other sessions.
• Forms will be sent to you in a Parent Packet once your
daughter has been accepted into the program,
• Completed forms are due at the Council office by May
11, 2007. Parent Packets will also be available to download at www.mecgs.org.
Camp Fees
Basic fees contribute to the cost of food; program supplies
and equipment; camper accident and sickness insurance;
staff salaries and benefits; and utilities. Fees for specialty
programs are increased by the need for special equipment
or services. The fees you pay cover less than 65% of
actual costs for Resident Camp. Income to the Council
from cookie sales underwrites the balance of the costs.
Balance of fees are due at the Girl Scout Service Center
FOUR WEEKS before the session begins.
Make checks payable to Girl Scouts of Magic Empire Council.
VISA/ MasterCard/Discover cards are accepted.
Girl Scout

Horseback Riding Program
The Camp Tallchief horseback riding program is designed to give girls entering the 5th – 12th grades a working knowledge of horse and stable care,
arena and trail riding, and the use and care of tack and other equipment. Our progressive program teaches riding “from the ground up – NOT from
the saddle down.” Each camper is required to learn and carry out certain ‘barn chores’. This type of involvement is important for you to learn and
accept the responsibilities of horse care and feeding, as well as proper grooming and saddling techniques. Any girl attending these programs must
bring jeans and boots or shoe with a 1” heel to participate. Each progressive level of the program reviews previously acquired skills and introduces
new ones. Camp Tallchief instructors follow the Camp Horsemanship Association (CHA), American Camping Association (ACA), and Girl Scouts of
the USA Safety-Wise standards. Our program follows some of the CHA curriculum.
HORSE FAN – 5 nights (Sessions 2, 3)
This is the first level in our progressive program. You will love horsing around in this session. You’ll sleep in Chestnut, be at the arena in the morning or
evening, have some cool down time in the pool, and maybe even have some arts and crafts time. You will learn to safely groom, lead and feed the
horses. You will complete some badge requirements of the Junior Horse Fan badge. This is a skill-building session and may need to be repeated if
all skill requirements are not completed. At least one pair of jeans and boots (or shoes with a heel) is required. Entering grades 5 and up. *Must
have previously attended 5 consecutive nights at a resident camp, church camp, band camp, etc... $300.00
HORSES OF COURSE – 5 nights (Sessions 2, 3)
This is the second level in our progressive program. In this fun session, you’ll learn riding skills, barn chores, grooming, leading and saddling.
Trotting with balance and control while successfully steering in the arena will be the skill to focus on. A trail ride, washing and watering the horses
could be just a few of the activities you’ll have, as well as time to cool down at the pool. Complete some badge requirements of the Junior Horse
Rider badge. This is a skill building session and may need to be repeated if all skill requirements are not completed. At least one pair of jeans and
boots (or shoes with a heel) is required. Entering grades 6 and up. *Must have successfully completed Horse Fan. $300.00
BLAZING SADDLES – 12 nights (Session 9)
This is the third level in our progressive riding program. This session is for girls who can successfully steer their horses at a trot and have great form
and control. You will take several trail rides, saddle, groom, feed, lead, and water your own horse. You will learn how to take your horse on a pack trip
and travel across the Zink Ranch for an overnight trail ride. Travel off camp to see a horse show and a rodeo. You will complete some requirements
of the Horseback Riding Interest Project Award. This is a skill building session and may need to be repeated if all skill requirements are not completed.
Jeans and boots (or shoes with a 1” heel) are required. Entering grades 7 and up. *Must have successfully completed Horses of Course.
$450.00
EXTREME TRAIL RIDING – 5 nights (Session 8)
After mastering the skills in Blazing Saddles, come back and have some fun with that knowledge! Trails, trails, and more trails. There will be very little
arena work in this session. Blaze your own trail. Experience a new trail everyday. You will still have time for swimming, hiking, and crafts. Jeans and
boots (or closed-toed shoes with a 1” heel) required. Entering grades 8 and up. *Must have successfully completed Blazing Saddles. $250.00
HORSE SHOW BASICS – 5 nights **New Program** (Session 8)
Horsemanship and showmanship are two very different areas within equine competition. Both arts show the best qualities of you and your horse.
Horsemanship describes your skills on horseback, while showmanship describes your technique while on the ground. Let us teach you some of the
finer points of showing your horse in the competition arena. You will learn how to properly stand and position your horse, as well as how to maintain
proper composure of your horse during show events. All teaching aspects of this program will be done inside the Dreamcatcher Arena. You will still
have time for swimming, hiking, and crafts. Jeans and boots (or closed-toed shoes with a 1” heel) required. Entering grades 8 and up. *Must have
successfully completed Blazing Saddles. $250.00
WRANGLER-IN-TRAINING (W.I.T.) – 5 nights plus one week internship (Required week – C.I.T. Intro: Session 2 or 7)
This internship program is for girls who have completed Blazing Saddles. The first week will be for attending C.I.T. Intro and then you will choose
an additional week to complete your internship. If you have already completed C.I.T. Intro, you may choose 2 weeks to perform your internship role.
You will come to Tallchief and take care of the horses while expanding your skills and knowledge of being a Camp Tallchief Wrangler. You will assist
with all aspects of horse and barn care. CHA Certified Instructors will guide you in assisting with trail rides and arena lessons. You will work on
some parts of the Horse Program Aide Specialization Module while attending this session. Participants will be housed in the Wrangler’s Quarters at
the Dreamcatcher Arena. W.I.T.’s will go home between each camp session. Participation in the W.I.T. Program does not guarantee future employment
at Camp Tallchief. Entering grades 10 and up. *Must have completed Blazing Saddles and C.I.T. Intro. $150.00
Option #1: Attend C.I.T. Intro and pick one week of internship.
Option #2: Previously completed C.I.T. Intro – pick two weeks of internship.

S.O.A.R. Challenge Course
The Scout Outdoor Adventure R anch (S.O.A.R.) Challenge Course is a series of
activities that promote teambuilding and problem solving skills within a group. The
challenge course offers an experiential learning environment. A series of obstacles
called “elements” challenge the group to work together as a team in developing a
solution. While the obstacles are perceived to be physically challenging, any person
willing to try can succeed through the cooperative efforts of the group. As your group
conquers each element on the course, they will learn about themselves and their
relationships with others. In the Girl Scout program, we strive to help girls grow and
develop values, interpersonal relationships, social conscience and conviction about their
own self worth. Learning these qualities has never been so fun or exciting than through
the S.O.A.R. program. The S.O.A.R. Challenge Course is a series of individual challenges
and group problem solving initiatives to develop trust, teamwork skills and individual
confidence.
S.O.A.R. Challenge Course Philosophy: Each girl is encouraged to attempt each activity.
With guidance and instruction, each activity promotes self-confidence, group trust and
equipment dependability. To effectively benefit from the program, we encourage the
girls to enter with a sense of adventure and willingness to experience new things. The
“challenge by choice” concept is an initiative where each girl decides on her level
of participation and intensity according to her own individual needs. No one is ever
required, forced or coerced to do any activity.
Challenge Course Components: The Challenge Course is comprised of three areas:
Games and Initiatives, Low Elements and High Elements. Each area is designed to
prepare the group for the next area. All groups must move through the first two areas in
order to safely and successfully participate on the high elements. Participants of all ages
in reasonable shape can use the facilities safely. One does not have to be an athlete to
experience the Challenge Course. The genuine challenges are in the mind.
S.O.A.R. 1 – 5 nights (Session 3)
Want some adventure? The S.O.A.R. Challenge Course will be utilized for most of your activities. Challenge yourself in this session by learning
basic rappelling skills. Use teamwork to solve unique puzzles and uncover your personal best. Swimming and other camp activities will be included
too. This is a skill building session and may be repeated. Entering grades 7 and up. *Must have previously attended 5 consecutive
nights at a resident camp, church camp, band camp, etc... $250.00
S.O.A.R. 2 – 5 nights (Session 4 – Night Owls)
Another phase of the high adventure progression takes place during Session 4, Night
Owls Week. This program adds to the challenge of the high elements by following the
Night Owls schedule. You will experience the high elements….after dark! What does the
zip line look like when all you can see are the lights on the landing platform? Come to this
program and find out! Entering grades 7 and up. *Must have previously attended 5
consecutive nights at a resident camp, church camp, band camp, etc… $250.00
S.O.A.R. 3 – 6 nights (Sessions 6 & 7)
The adventure continues . . . This is the advanced phase of the high adventure
progression where you will experience caving, bouldering, and rock climbing. You will
experience a 6-night tent camping adventure in Arkansas. Explore a cave with a waterfall
and climb a natural chimney. Good physical stamina is required. Campers will check
in and depart from the Girl Scout Service Center in Tulsa. Entering grades 8 and up.
*Must have completed S.O.A.R. 1 or 2. $450.00

Resident Camp Staff
Resident Camp staff members are carefully selected and attend a two-week training prior to the summer camp season. All
staff meets the age and skill certification standards required by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA). Work history and personal
references are checked on each employee. Drug screening and criminal background checks are also conducted prior to
employment, as well as random drug screenings throughout the summer.
International Camp Staff
An additional asset to our camp staff is provided by CCUSA, which is an international camp counselor staffing agency.
Thanks to CCUSA, we have some international staff members on board, which gives us the benefit of a mulitcultural
atmosphere at camp. These counselors are eager to share their culture and learn about our culture in return.
Host Family Opportunities
When our international staff members arrive, who will be there
to pick them up at the airport? Who will they spend time with
until camp starts? After camp starts, who will pick them up
on the weekends and show them around town? If you apply
to be a host family, the answer to all of these questions could
be YOU! If you are interested in being a host family for one
of our international staff members, please contact Kimberlee
Harley, Camp Director as soon as possible.
Tel: (918)745-5213 or email [email protected].
Great summer job opportunities available! Check out www.mecgs.org or call
Kimberlee Harley, Resident Camp Director at 1-800-707-9914 ext. 213
