He was an apprentice on London’s Crystal Palace which housed the Great Exhibition of 1851. Clement and the environment Clement steel sections are made from recycled material and in addition the company arranges for all the metal it replaces to be recycled. Our environmental policy covering reductions in CO2 emissions and sustainability is recognised as being one of the best practiced in the fenestration industry. Clement Steel Windows Technical Director, Rick Clement, will be pleased to tell many of the visitors that all insulating glass units glazed into CAST rooflights have an Argon gas filled cavity. Rick said “after Kyoto the rooflight industry is responding to huge challenges that the government have laid down for increased energy conservation. Our CAST rooflight is the first in its class to provide an insulating glass unit with a ‘u’ value of 1.0 W/m2K, not as an optional extra but as standard!” Clement products are regularly on display at exhibitions around the country, where experts will also be on hand to offer advice For information on forthcoming events please see www.thecastrooflight.com or call us on 01428 643393 sHERITAGE ee CARBON REDUCTION SUSTAINABILITY th e new CAST roo at Inte flight rbuild 2007 9 CROSS SECTION SLATE PROFILE 10 CROSS SECTION SLATE PROFILE CARBON REDUCTION SUSTAINABILITY HERITAGE 11 CROSS SECTION CLAY TILE PROFILE CARBON REDUCTION SUSTAINABILITY HERITAGE 12 CROSS SECTION CLAY TILE PROFILE CARBON REDUCTION SUSTAINABILITY HERITAGE 13 the CAST lightpipe When a plastic dome won’t do... a more traditional appearance... the CAST lightpipe delivers FREE daylight into dark or windowless rooms using the latest solar light transmittance technology with the beauty of traditionally hand made CAST rooflights. The Duette blind system is unique in that is has a honeycombe pleat, which traps in air for added insulation. Using similar technology to our double glazed units it remarkably keeps heat in, in the winter and in the summer out…. another step towards helping the environment! On standard pleated blinds a cord is visible, however the honeycombe material here allows the cords to be hidden within the blind itself. The blind also has a pull up cord and lock system. An explanation of these is shown on figure 1 and the individual values are beside each colour sample. CARBON REDUCTION SUSTAINABILITY HERITAGE 18 Photograph shows an original Victorian rooflight in a Grade II Listed Building Frequently Asked Questions Q: How is your rooflight different from other traditional looking rooflights? Q: Part L of the building regulations, and ‘U’ values how has it all come about ? A: Our rooflights differ in four main ways: 1 We offer 3 rooflight depths to ensure you get the right fit. 2 The thermal barrier between the opening and the closing leaf assists with insulation 3 The CAST rooflight also has glass units which are filled with argon gas drastically cutting carbon emissions. 4 The very latest glass units feature warm edge technology, this improvement prevents a great deal of heat escaping through the sealant and the spacer bar. All of our glass units are constructed using this advanced process 5 Finally to assist with maintenance we coat the top surface of each glass unit with “Rain Racer”™, self cleaning glass solution keeping the glass brighter for longer. A: At the CAST rooflight we applaud the government’s objectives to reduce carbon emissions. We now know for certain how harmful these “greenhouse gasses” are to the environment. The revised Part L is one of the package of measures to bring the UK into line with its “Kyoto Accord” agreements. A ‘U’ value is a way of measuring heat loss. The lower the ‘U’ value the lower the amount of heat loss. Q: Like a Velux do I need a flashing kit? A: CAST rooflights, are traditional building products. We would always suggest the use of flashing and recommend you take professional advice. After all every roof is different. Q: I want a CAST rooflight but I don’t do DIY, how can it be installed? A: We manufacture the CAST rooflight as a supply only product, we do not fit. It is a very specialist job, so speak with a chartered builder or chartered surveyor for advice before doing anything. A risk assessment maybe necessary. We can not recommend an installer but list below two individuals who have installed our rooflights for other clients around the UK. Graham from Gloucester 01454 269000 Matthew from Scotland 0845 6015786 Q: How can I buy the highest performing conservation rooflight at the very best price. A: Ring us on 01428 643393 and speak to the manufacturers direct, we don’t deal with middle men, who have already added on their profit. So we can pass these cost savings on to our customers. Q: Do you make your own rooflights? A: Yes we do, and to the very best quality, both of our factories are registered to ISO 9001. In manufacturing our own rooflights we benefit from significant advantages. For example our product development is easier to implement and we are always striving to improve the performance of our rooflights as illustrated by the recent introduction of self cleaning glass, thermal barrier and the thermally broken ‘T’ section glazing bar. Q: The CAST rooflight, does it comply with the new regulations? A: Yes it does, the glass that we use has a ‘U’ value of 1.0 W/m2K. Q: What about condensation- possible but increasingly unlikely? A: The thermal efficiency of the argon gas filled double glazed units of the CAST rooflight combined with the thermal barrier and thermally broken ‘T’ glazing bar which come as standard with our rooflights make condensation problems virtually a thing of the past. Condensation is the water which results from the conversion of water vapour in the atmosphere. The air which surrounds us in our homes always contains water vapour, which is usually invisible. The warmer the air, the more water vapour it can hold but there is a limit to the amount it can hold for a given temperature. When saturated air comes into contact with a surface which is at a lower temperature, the air is chilled at the point of contact and sheds its surplus water vapour on that surface. Please ensure that the entire installation is in accordance with our instructions. Q: I have got a slate roof does the rooflight need to be different? A: Yes that is why we have two profiles for our rooflights. One for slate the other for deeper roof finishes such as clay tiles. We are the only company to offer this option and it ensures that the rooflight sit flush with the roofline. Q: Can I have a purpose made rooflight? A: No problem and choose your own colour if you want, it doesn’t have to be Henry Ford black. TAKING CARE OF YOUR ROOFLIGHT Keep the weatherstripping clean removing any grime, ensure the working parts remain dust free and regularly lubricated. Clean down the paint surface at least twice a year (polluted or marine environments will require more intensive maintenance) using warm water with a drop of detergent such as washing up liquid. WARRANTY We offer a 10 year warranty on the paint surface, 5 years for glass and 1 year fittings. All subject to our terms and conditions which you should read thoroughly.
