Summer Reading
ks Off!
The annual East Baton Rouge Parish
Library Summer Reading Programs kick
off this month! This summer
is sure to be packed with
great books, exciting
programs,

fabulous prizes. With
a program for every
age group, the entire
family can participate!
All locations of the
Library will have reading logs for
each age group (Children, Teens, and Adults) beginning
in late May. While each group has a different theme and
guidelines – the goal is the same – to READ!
Dig Into Reading is this year’s theme for the Children’s
Summer Reading Program – logs may be picked up
beginning Tuesday, May 21, and will be handed
out through Wednesday, July 31. Summer
activities will feature events that spotlight
the performing arts, visual arts, literature,
and science – all showing children how to tap
into their creative sides. Children will receive a
certificate, a book, and special incentives just for
reading! Children who are unable to read may join the
read-to-me program and have an adult or older child pledge
to read to them. Children’s summer reading logs completed
and turned in through August 15 will earn them a reading
certificate, coupons from area vendors, and a chance to win
a special prize from a local business or school supplies. The

Storytime
at the library
Storytime gives children an
excellent introduction to books and the
library, increases their attention spans,
and develops their social skills by
involving them in stories, poetry, and
songs. The Children’s Services staff
hopes Storytime will be an enjoyable
experience for each child, leading to
a lifelong love of books and reading.
You are always welcome to attend
Storytime with your child. We offer
seven different Storytime formats.
Since children develop at different
rates, you may talk with one of our
library staff members to place your
child in a younger or older group.
For more information, call your
local library. Organized groups must
reserve a date and time other than
those listed.
