Dear Friends and Neighbors,
It is an honor to represent the great people of the 10th Legislative District.
The district includes all of Island County and parts of Skagit and Snohomish
counties. You will often hear me say that we have the prettiest region in the
state and I firmly believe that!
Our region is anchored by a strong and diverse agricultural industry, but
the 10th District is also unique in that many people rely on our state
ferry system as their main mode of transportation. The district welcomes
a large number of tourists and visitors every year thanks to a number of
state parks, our beautiful coastline, and many popular attractions including
Deception Pass State Park and the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.
As much as we have to be proud of and look forward to, we know our
communities face challenges. This requires us to work together to find
long-term solutions that will reset, reform and reshape our state government. My door is always open to you, so please do not hesitate to contact
me or my office if we can assist you in any way.

Legislature
Citizens may obtain information on the status of bills and leave messages for
their legislators by calling the toll-free number 1-800-562-6000 or by visiting the
legislative Website at: http://leg.wa.gov/legislature
The Legislature meets each year beginning the second Monday in January. The
regular session is limited to 105 days in odd-numbered years and 60 days in
even-numbered years. The Governor or the Legislature may call additional special
sessions lasting no more than 30 days each as needed.

Resources in Our Community
We are very fortunate to be able to live in the most beautiful legislative district in
the state. There are numerous benefits and opportunities for assistance offered
by local services and advocacy groups. Our state parks are easy to access and
unrivaled in their scenery. The Beach Watchers and Shore Stewards programs help
to protect the Puget Sound. Food banks provide critically important food safety for
many families in our district. In return, public support and volunteerism help these
great programs to maintain our high quality of life. I have included some basic
information about these wonderful programs in this guide.
Beach Watchers and Shore Stewards
Beach Watchers and Shore Stewards are volunteer programs that seek to improve
and protect the Puget Sound, our shoreline properties, our rivers, and our streams.
Both programs were founded here in the 10th District and have since expanded to
counties across the Puget Sound. I have included links to both websites for you to

State Parks
State parks are our treasures, and there are numerous parks in the 10th Legislative
District. Whether you are just going for the day or planning to spend the night
camping, our parks are both fun and accessible. To make reservations, please call
(888)-CAMPOUT (888-226-7677).
You can find more information on the Discover Pass, which is required to visit
our state parks, at: http://discoverpass.wa.gov/. Volunteers that work on agency
approved projects for twenty-four hours qualify for a free Discover Pass

Conservation Districts
The Conservation Districts assist residents with the management and conservation
of natural resources to provide a productive and healthy environment. The Districts
are a political subdivision of state government that work with farmers, urban
residents, rural and suburban landowners. Some of their programs include farm
planning, forest stewardship, natural yard care, and low impact development.
Conservation Districts also provide education classes and technical assistance. All
of their programs and assistance are offered free of charge.
