And why doesn't he capitalize his name like everybody else? cummings plays with language in order to find hidden truths in his poems." -Myles "Is there any sense to be found in nonsense? Lear wrote absurdly silly limericks - and the beautiful children's story "The Owl and the Pussycat" - but his love of language, imagery, and imagination are those of a true poet." -Myles Wilfred Owen Mary Oliver "It's hard to anyone in the batttlefields of WWI feeling in the mood to write poetry. But Owen used the form as way to work through the unimaginable horrors he witnessed and to capture the human toll of modern warfare as no other form of writing can." - Myles "Like a scientist, Oliver tracks her observations and insights about her subjects as she bushwacks through the outdoors. Most nature poems are appreciations of animals, plants, or landscapes, but Oliver's transform the way we see the living world and ourselves." -Myles 82 Middle School Summer Reading Program at Sabot Read! Note on Content As the standards, sensitivities, and stomachs of Sabot readers and families vary widely, we do not restrict what students recommend in this guide. A few may contain themes, scenes, or uses of language that some middle schoolers are not comfortable with. As the majority are widely-accepted as books appropriate for MS readers, only those that are primarily written for a non-adolescent audience and contain scenes of violence, sexuality, or offensive language have been marked with a "Parental Review" symbol - indicating that families should check out the book if they're concerned about what their children might encounter in their reading. Capturing Your Ideas While Reading Capture a minimum of three ideas for each of the five books you read this summer. You should keep track of your ideas throughout your reading - a rough guideline might be to stop and reflect at the beginning, middle, and end. Here are some ways you can capture ideas while making your way through a book - figure out which works best for you. 85 Post-It Notes GoogleDoc Notebook Fill out each note with a complete idea - and then stick it right next to the passage that inspired it.
