Who is NARI-BIE?
The Building Industries Exchange (BIE) of
Pottstown & Vicinity, Inc. is a not-for-profit trade
association. Since 1952, we have proudly been
serving the construction industry and their allied
businesses. We are best-known in the community as the sponsor of the Pottstown Home
Show and local contractor referral organization.
Our mission is to promote integrity and ethics
within the local construction industry and its
supporting industries; to provide a professional
network for Member businesses, creating opportunities for growth and development; and to
operate as a referral source for its Membership
and the general public.
In 2012, BIE affiliated with the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI); a notfor-profit trade association with more than 50
years of industry experience. The association is
committed to enhancing the professionalism of
the remodeling industry and serving as an ally
to you, the homeowner.
Members of NARI-BIE are full service contractors, design-build firms, architects, engineers,
manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, subcontractors, lenders, and other professionals who
work in or with the construction industry.
NARI-BIE members have access to the latest
information in the industry through publications,
educational programs, educational seminars
and conferences.
Members pledge to uphold NARI's Code of Ethics and is dedicated to the professionalism and
integrity of the remodeling industry.

Code of Ethics
Each member of NARI pledges to observe high
standards of honesty, integrity, and responsibility in the conduct of business:
 By promoting in good faith only those
products and services which are known to
be functionally and economically sound,
and which are known to be consistent with
objective standards of health and safety;
 By making all advertising and sales promotion factually accurate, avoiding those practices which tend to mislead or deceive the
customer.
 By writing all contracts and warranties
such that they comply with federal, state,
and local laws.
 By promptly acknowledging and taking
appropriate action on all customer complaints.
 By refraining from any act intended to restrain trade or suppress competition.
 By attaining and retaining insurance as
required by federal, state, and local authorities.
 By attaining and retaining licensing and/or
registration as required by federal, state,
and local authorities.

How To Select a Contractor
Finding a qualified professional contractor for
your home improvement project doesn't have to
be a difficult task. By following these guidelines
you will make the selection process easier and
be better prepared to make an informed decision that best suits your needs:
1. Employ a home improvement contractor
with an established business in your area.
Local firms can be checked through references from past customers in your community or through your local better business
bureau. Local remodelers are compelled to
perform quality work that satisfies their customers for their business to survive.
2. Pennsylvania requires contractors to be
licensed. Contact your state or local licensing agencies to ensure the contractor meets
all requirements. Ask the remodeling contractor for a current copy of their license.
3. Check with the government Consumer Affairs Office and the Better Business Bureau
to ensure there are no complaints on record
for the contractor.
4. Ask to see a copy of the contractor's certification of insurance for the name of his or
her insurance agency to verify coverage.
Most states require a contractor to carry
worker's compensation, property damage
and personal liability insurance. Make sure
the contractor's insurance coverage meets
all the minimum requirements.
5. If you solicit bids from several different
home improvement contractors, be sure
they are bidding on the same scope and
quality of work. Discuss variations in bids
and beware of any bid that is substantially
lower than the others.

NARI-BIE is offering a $1,000 scholarship to
a graduating Senior who exhibits a likeliness
of success in a building trades career.
The Scholarship will be awarded to the selected applicant at the organization’s May Membership Dinner.
This Memorial Award honors the memory and exemplary character of Robert T.
“Bob” Palladino. Mr. Palladino was the chief executive
officer of Palladino Brothers
Roofing Company.
The Scholarship Committee seeks applications from qualified candidates whom:
 Attained a “C” or better their Junior
and Senior years of high school;
 Have experience in the building trades
through education/employment;
 Involved in community service; and
 Sincere in pursuing a career in the
building trades.
