Charity Begins at Home ABSTRACT MODES OF EXPRESSION features a diverse group of 26 artists of the African Diaspora whose influences are many. These non-objective and abstract styles form the basis for an art which departs from representational or recognizable objects. Using sculpture, prints, assemblages and paintings, these artists express thoughts and feelings about their inner world and perceptions of the outer world. Using various textures, forms, colors and lines as the “subject” of the art, a composition is created which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. It is a break from the notion that a work of art has to represent something “known to the viewer.” GALLERY HOURS: Mon-Sat 12noon-6, or by appointment. For more information, call Stella Jones Gallery, (504)568-9050. Work Three-time CityBusiness Best Places to Work honoree, Baker Donelson, “purposely creates a culture that recognizes people as our most valuable assest,” says Roy Cheatwood, managing shareholder of their New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Mandeville offices. That culture includes providing its work force with free parking and partial 401(k) plans, plus detailed training for young lawyers on the partner track. But its not just about the attorneys, Baker Donelson supports charitable events and encourages staff and attorneys to attend. “Good lawyers that achieve success need a good team, and that includes everyone from the mailroom to staff, secretaries and the tech guy.” Jones Walker partner Keith Colvin, has been elected president of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys.
