ABSTRACT MODES OF EXPRESSION features a diverse group of 26 artists of the African
Diaspora whose influences are many. These non-objective and abstract styles form the basis for an
art which departs from representational or recognizable
objects. Using sculpture, prints, assemblages and
paintings, these artists express thoughts and
feelings about their inner world and
perceptions of the outer world.
Using various textures, forms, colors
and lines as the “subject” of the art,
a composition is created which may
exist with a degree of independence
from visual references in the world.
It is a break from the notion that
a work of art has to represent
something “known to the viewer.”
GALLERY HOURS: Mon-Sat
12noon-6, or by appointment.
