Naya`s guide to Bali
~ What to know before you go ~
Naya’s guide to Bali
First things
to think
about when
preparing
your trip
Visa
Do you need a visa?
Check your country’s
visa requirements prior
to arrival.
Bank Cards
ATMs accept bank cards
from all over the world.
Notify your bank that
you will be using your
card in Bali. American
Express is not widely accepted.
Electricity
Bring an electric adapter
with two pins, 220 volt
or a world travel charger
since plugs are different
in Indoensia.
Money
Exchange rates will be
better in Bali. Change
a small amount in your
country (US$50) and
once you are in Ubud,
we will direct you to es-
tablishments with good
rates. If you bring US
dollars, be sure they are
printed in 2001 or later
and in excellent condition. US$100 bills get the
best exchange rate.
Stay Mobile
Need to stay in touch?
Bring your mobile to Bali
and buy a pre-paid SIM
card. We advise ‘Sympati’ or ‘XL.’ Basic SIM cards
costs about Rp100.000
(US$10).
Dress apropriately
Carry a sarong (cloth) to
wrap around you for entering temples or holy
sites, also nice for suntanning or as a scarf!
Visa & Entry
Requirements
Please be proactive and
learn about visa requirements particular to your
own home country in
advance of travelling to
Indonesia. Your passport
must have a minimum
of 6 months remaining
validity from the date of
your prospective departure from Bali.
Tourist Visa on Arrival
Depending on your
passport there are three
options to enter Indonesia:
1. No Visa required
(45 countries FREE)
2. Visa on Arrival
(ca.30 countries - 35US$)
3. Visa needed
(apply abroad before
arriving in Indonesia)
If option 2/3 applies to
your passport; please
queue in either the
“Visa-On-Arrival” line
(and purchase your visa
for US$35), or the line
for visas secured in your
own country ahead of
time. Enter as a tourist
and this visa is valid for
30 days including your
arrival and departure
dates.
30 Day Visa-On-Arrival
(VOA) with 30 Day Extension (60 Days Max.)
If you wish to stay longer than 30 days, you
can extend your VOA for
another 30 days, good
for a total of 60 (we advice to count the days,
not months). This extension will have to be
done via an agent. The
cost is approximately
US$70 and due at time
of extension. You will
not need any special
paperwork for this.
Social Visa – 60 days to
6 months
The Social Visa is good
for 60 days and extendable each month up to 6
months. The visa is valid
for social, cultural, and
religious visits, which
include visiting family/
relatives and organizations, and exchange
visits between academic, art, or sports institutions. Contact your local
Indonesian consulate/
embassy and request
for this application.
You cannot obtain this
visa in Indonesia and
must apply for it before
arriving.
Arrival at Denpasar
After clearing immigration, retrieve your bags
and then go through
Customs. There are
ATMs in the Arrivals Hall
and moneychangers
after Customs.
WATER DO
drink bottled water,
Bali is warm all year round
and you dont want to dehydrate.
Naya provides free filtered water
and alkaline water.
SHOPPING DO
haggle in markets and street
shops, Humor and a smile can
get you a long way on Bali, that
goes for bargaining too.
PARTY DO
dance, as much as you can, but respect
the lifestyle of a Balinese, who normally
goes home after sunset and sleeps at 10,
waking up at sunrise around 6am. (you
should try it, the colors are beautiful)
SAFETY DO
wear a helmet when driving a
scooter, both for protection and avoiding
being stopped by the police
HANDS DO
TEMPLE DO
you are required to wear a sarong
and “belt” small scarf around the
waste. This island might be just so
magic because the balinese are
serious about their religion, so
please join us in respecting this.
use your right hand to eat food
and give and receive money and
other things.
FEET DO
take off your footwear before entering a
home, temple or any other building where
you see a row of flipflops outside.
SHOPPING DON’T
WATERDON’T
don’t haggle for the fun of it, stay polite.
All balinese souvenirs are made locally and
5.000 rupiah probably wont make such a
difference to you, but does for the seller
drink tap water, it doesn’t taste
good (holds chlorine?) and will
probably give you “bali belly”
SAFETY DONT
TEMPLE DONT
Do not enter a temple whilst
menstruating, according to the
balinese religion you are spiritually impure during your period.
Balinese believe in karma, but still we
wouldn’t advice you to keep your key in
the bike when you step out for a juice
or wear nothing but a bikini, respect &
safety always go first.
FEET DONT
do not step on an offering that you will
find laying around on the streets and curveroads, these are offerings for the gods,
as long as the insent is still smoking, this
offering is in working to feed one of the
gods and should not be disturbed.
PARTY DONT
drugs of any kind, indonesians laws
are very strict considering drugs.
HAND DONT
do not give or receive with your left hand,
this hand is seen to be unclean.
