These six selected salmon strongholds represent less than five
percent of the state, ten percent of salmon bearing streams, and
roughly 70 percent of the diversity (run-timing/ESU/Ecoregion) of
salmon and steelhead populations in California. The final
selection includes a total of 69 populations of which 29 were
rated individually as strong, diverse, and wild.
