The famous Laugavegur trek
The best known of all treks in Iceland, this trail leads from the geothermal
valley of Landmannalaugar in the southern highlands, south to Þórsmörk
valley, at the foot of world famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano. The trail crosses
the third biggest geothermal zone in the world, lies through yellow rhyolite
mountains, over black deserts, past great canyons and into the verdurous
valley of Þórsmörk. It is no coincidence that the “Laugavegur” hike each
year attracts travelers from around the world in addition of being a big
favorite amongst locals. Accommodation in mountain huts.

Trek over Iceland’s most recent lava
Along with the Laugavegur trek, the hike over Fimmvörðuháls is probably
the best known in Iceland. The site of a short eruption just before the one
in Eyjafjallajökull last winter, the Fimmvörðuháls hike has become a real hot
spot, with spectacular nature and exciting geological features. The trail goes
from the nature reserve of Þórsmörk, up between the two glaciers, onto and
then over the recently formed lava, passing right by the two new craters,
Magni and Móði, before descending to the lowlands on the southern side.
Once there we are greeted by the great Skógarfoss waterfall and the Atlantic
coast is not far away. This astonishing diversity makes this short trek another
favorite in Iceland. Accommodation in mountain huts.
