Who We Are
The volunteers and supporters of BMDMI are Christian brothers and sisters putting the love of
Jesus Christ into action to help the poor of Honduras and Nicaragua.
What We Do
Our mission is clear: BMDMI exists under the Lordship of Jesus Christ to evangelize the lost,
disciple the saved, and minister to the needs of the poor.
How We Do It
Acting on Christ’s call to faith and love, we use various ministries to reach the “least of these”
in Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition to personal evangelism and discipleship, we serve

Dear Friends,

The Apostle Paul writes to the church in Corinth encouraging them to participate in the Jerusalem church offering.
Paul knew this offering not only supplied the needs for the church but also resulted in many thanksgivings and
praises to God. (II Corinthians, chps. 8 & 9).
In 2009, the ministries of BMDMI have supplied many needs for thousands of people in Honduras and Nicaragua.
The generous outpouring by our volunteers, financial partners, missionaries and staff kindled a spirit of praise and
thanksgiving to God in the hearts of those whose lives were touched.
As you review this report, it is my hope you will not only see facts and figures, but also that the eyes of your heart
will see the thousands of poor, needy people whose hunger, pain, distress, and poverty have been eased through
this ministry. Though cash contributions in 2009 were down compared to the previous year, we finished the year in
a positive financial position by reducing management and general expenses, and by postponing several ministry
expansion projects.
However, plans were finalized in one area of ministry expansion that is exciting! In 2009, our Board of Trustees
negotiated a merger with World Baptist Missions resulting in BMDMI assuming the operations of a productive
hospital ministry in Guaimaca, Honduras. The merger, which was effective January 1, 2010, is enhancing the
effectiveness and scope of BMDMI’s medical ministry.
We thank God that even in these times of global economic worry, He has graciously supplied our needs. We are
eager to see what He will do through BMDMI in 2010.

Ministering through Short-term Mission Teams
As we reflect on another year of ministry, we see how God has poured out His blessings on the
team ministry, the people of Central America and BMDMI. In 2009, we had 21 teams travel to
Nicaragua and 33 teams to Honduras. Even in a time of financial uncertainty, God provided for
those who were willing to “go and make disciples.”
A total of 1,982 volunteers went to serve our Lord in Central America in 2009. Over 12,000 folks
accepted Christ as their Savior and more than 125,000 medical and dental patients received
care free of charge! As you can see, through the sacrifice and hard work of our teams, the
people of Honduras and Nicaragua were truly blessed. It is evident in the stats from 2009 that
God is blessing the efforts of BMDMI and we give Him all the honor and praise. We thank all of our team captains, team members, donors, Church leaders, missionaries, and
staff for giving themselves to reach the lost and needy in Honduras and Nicaragua. May God
continue to bless their hard work!

Meeting Physical Needs
Meeting Spiritual Needs
In Nicaragua and Honduras, there are so many children
that lack food, clothing and safe shelter; they struggle to
survive day to day.
BMDMI missionaries share the Gospel with the children of
Honduras and Nicaragua through backyard Bible clubs, Bible
classes in public and private schools, as well as AWANA-type
programs in schools and churches.
To help these children, BMDMI has founded two
Children’s Homes: the Good Shepherd Children’s Home in
Honduras (GSCH) and Emmanuel Children’s Home (ECH)
in Nicaragua. The GSCH was founded 13 years ago and
serves abused and abandoned children. By the close
of 2009, the GSCH was home to 203 children. The ECH,
which was founded in 2008, is a refuge for young girls
that have been sexually abused and/or are pregnant; at
the close of 2009, the ECH was home to 10 young ladies
and 4 babies.
Additionally, our missionaries continue to train church leaders
in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School ministries. And, of
course, this is all in addition to the ministry provided by the shortterm mission teams that travel to Central America each year.
These two homes give children living in desperate
situations the opportunity for a normal life in a caring and
loving environment. Our staff and volunteers make sure
the children know how important they are to God and
them.

Ministering through Education
Providing educational opportunities for the poor of Honduras
and Nicaragua has always been a challenge, but 2009 was
another year of success. Because of our faithful supporters,
volunteers, missionaries and staff, we provided many under
privileged children, youth and adults an education to help
them grow personally and professionally.
Christian Schools for Children
Pastor & Church Leader Development
Our schools in Nicaragua and Honduras provided an excellent
education to many children in need. Combined enrollment for the
Mount of Olives Christian School (San Gregorio, Nicaragua) and
the Good Shepherd Christian Academy (Zamorano, Honduras)
totaled 570 students led by staffs of 37 teachers, professionals and
auxiliary workers.
One of BMDMI’s longest-running ministries is preparing
pastors and church leaders for service in their respective
congregations. This ministry is made possible by the
two Bible Institute that BMDMI operates in Las Crucitas,
Honduras and Diriamba, Nicaragua. In 2009, approximately
160 students attended classes at these Institutes and
25 received their diplomas or certificates at the annual
graduation celebrations held each October.
Two of the bigger challenges facing these schools is how to teach
children who have an incredible range of educational needs and
abilities, and how to do it with very limited funding. Our teachers
and staff continue to search for ways to meet these challenges
with extremely limited resources. As always, these dedicated
educators strive to mold these children to become community
leaders of Honduras and Nicaragua.
Adult Vocational Training
The Nicaraguan Sewing School ministry equips women with
job skills that improve their ability to support themselves, their
families and their churches. At our five training centers, in 2009, 31
students graduated from Level One training; 17 students graduated
from Level Two training; and 9 students graduated from Level
Three training. Each of these students received a certificate from
the nationally-recognized organization, ALFALIT, and we are very
proud of them all!

Ministering through Construction
While we may not immediately think of building and remodeling as evangelism, the construction
ministry supports our efforts in extending the Gospel in great ways. BMDMI missionary and construction
coordinator, Bruce Johnson, captured well the challenges of building in a developing country when he
shared, “As always, the most challenging part of building in Honduras is finding the men, materials, and
organizing the logistics to get it done. Some of the projects were so far away and remote it was near
impossible to visit and return in one day.”
Besides providing places of worship, these projects provide for and encourage the very people who make
these churches possible – our pastors – with pastors’ homes and Sunday School buildings. In 2009,
the volunteers, church members, staff and missionaries of BMDMI were able to complete the following
construction projects:
