This issue announced the formation of a new political party, the Citizens Independent Party, dedicated to fighting
racism and the Daley machine. Includes biographical details about Arthur Vazquez, the Mexican-American leader
of the CIP, and Kathleen T. Kearney; their photos appear on the cover in black and white. Vazquez' obituary from
the Chicago Tribune later noted that "In 1966, he became one of the first Hispanics in the city to to run for office, as
candidate for state senator on the Citizens Independent Party slate. His petitions were disregarded by the Board of
Election Commissioners and when he sat in to protest, he was fined $100."
