We could tell you about how Girl
Scout programs are designed
to challenge girls to reach
their potential. Or we could
tell you about how Girl Scout
programs give girls the
tools they need to build
courage, confidence and
character to make the
world a better place.
But honestly,
we just want to tell
you about how these
girl scout programs are
really, really fun.
Welcome to another exciting year of Girl Scout programs!
Each of the programs in this booklet (GS411) is designed to
build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make
the world a better place.
Some programs are Council-led; others are run by
volunteers and third party groups. For anything that is
Council-led, you can register for the event online at gscm.
org. For anything that is volunteer or group led, the program
listing will explain who you need to contact in order to
participate. Also be sure to check out the new Girl Scouts
on the Go page at the back of the booklet for a list of Girl
Scout-friendly organizations in the area. If you have any
questions, please contact Council at 410.358.9711.
All GS411 events are posted to the events calendar at
gscm.org, however, new events are added all the time.
Be sure to check gscm.org often to discover the many
opportunities Girl Scouts of Central Maryland has to offer
all year long. We hope you have a fantastic year!
Yours in Girl Scouting,
The GSCM Program Team

All girls attending GSCM programs are required to bring Health History
forms to each program. If a troop leader is bringing a large group of girls
from their troop, they will be responsible for holding onto their girls’ health
history forms. Otherwise, the director of the program will collect forms
from girls attending their program at the beginning of the event. There is a
copy of a health history form in the back of this booklet. Additional copies
can be found on our website at gscm.org.
As per GSCM guidelines, confidentiality requires that medical information
is available on an “as needed” basis. Therefore, regarding Health History
Records:
• Health History forms need to be in a sealed envelope with the
individual’s name written on the envelope.
• The adult in charge must be instructed to open the envelope only when
there is a need to do so.
• Health History Records are made available only to the person serving as
the first-aider or health supervisor at a Girl Scout function.
Caitlin Dunbar Nature Center Tours

Get ready to enter the exciting world
of robotics! This is your chance to
join the official GSCM FIRST LEGO
League (FLL) robotics team. FLL
is a robotics program designed
to get girls excited about science
and technology- and teach them
valuable employment and life skills.
Experienced volunteer Girl Scout
coaches use the LEGO MINDSTORM
EV3 robot set to teach girls to
program an autonomous robot
and score points on a thematic
playing surface, as well as create
an innovative solution to a problem
as part of their project. Girls will
earn the GSCM STEM patch. This
is neither a drop-off nor tagalong

LADY EINSTEMS
September: App Designing
Girls will be able to dive into the secret
The Lady EinSTEMs group
is back for another year
of interesting and varied
STEM mini-activities! This
year, the Lady EinSTEMs
will be doing individual
sessions every month that
are based on a various
activity within the wide range of
science, technology, engineering,
and math. Our mini-activities will
help girls learn more about some of
the most interesting and unknown
areas that STEM can be applied. Our
program topics will vary from “App
Designing,” the science of sewing,
infectious diseases, and geocaching.
You must register for each of the
different sessions that you would
like to attend and space is very
limited. Registration is done

topics for each month

October: Chemistry of Colors
With the leaves changing and the
temperature dropping, it’s the perfect time
to find out how the chemical make-up of
our planet is fluctuating with the seasons
November: The Science of
Sewing
Come out tonight to welcome a group
that will help you to investigate the
connection between science and sewing!
Girls will learn about various textiles, the
engineering of sewing machines, and much
more!
December: Discovering
Infectious Diseases
As we enter the winter season, there is no
better time to learn about the spread of
disease and how to prevent it, then right
now! Learn some interesting facts about

solve some big issues.
GIRLS GO
TECHBRIDGE SERIES
February: Music to My Ears
Techbridge and Girl Scouts of
Central Maryland have joined
together to offer hands-on programs
to inspire girls in science and
engineering. These projects are
offered in pre-packaged bins that
can be checked out and include
all activities and materials you will
need for a Girl Scout troop, camp, or
event. Packages include consumable
and non-consumable
materials. The
cost for
each bin
is $5 per
girl per bin.

of people and bring about several different
emotions, but why? Come discover the

air and space industry, all the way from
Seattle, WA! We’ll also be taking
time to learn more
about exploring

have been trained by Techbridge.
If you are interested in learning
more, please contact GSCM’s STEM

org. All Techbridge programs are
designed for girls in grades 4-12.
In addition to the option of checking
out bins, GSCM is offering 90 minute
Techbridge sessions for groups
(minimum of 10 girls, maximum of
20) at the GSCM Urban Program
and STEM Center. Sessions will
need to be scheduled at least two
weeks in advance and are subject
to facilitator availability. To schedule
a session, please send an e-mail to
[email protected].
ENGINEERS TO THE RESCUE
Survival skills meet science as girls
take a make-believe camping trip
in Yellowstone National Park. After
an earthquake strikes the fictional
campground, power, food, and
water are unavailable. Girls will
problem-solve their way through
these situational challenges and
“meet” five female engineers and
scientists.
THRILLBUILDERS
Girls will learn about and
explore simple machines
in their everyday lives
and engineer the ultimate
playground of their imagination.
May: Maryland Wildlife
Wrap up this year of science
exploration by diving into
the world of Maryland
wildlife. Girls will come
face-to-face with
some of our state’s
most interesting
natural residents.
MAKE IT GREEN
Girls will learn about green design
and in the process develop
science and engineering skills. They
will construct a green studio from
start to finish – from brainstorming
an idea, to creating a floor plan, to
constructing a “green” building.

Girls will learn about electronics
and circuitry through a series of
hands-on investigations. They will
begin with exploration of basic
electronic components and build
different kinds of circuits and
eventually have the option to learn
how to solder.

Upcycling Arts & Crafts:
Here at Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
Baltimore we understand that there
is art within a world of waste. While
much of the world might not be
familiar with the idea of upcycling as
a way of life, the artistic community
has long been a proponent of
creating “something from nothing.”
Girls will have a chance to view works
of art made from “one man’s trash,
“as well as create their own upcycled
artwork and learn the importance
of understanding how our actions
today have long term effects on
the Inner Harbor and our larger
environment.
Participants in either program will
receive a Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
Baltimore Chessie the Chesapeake
Bay Sea Monster patch.
