Patterns sell yarn! Amy Herzog (AH) has been knitting since she was a small child and is passionate about sweaters that fit and flatter the wearer. She is the author of STC Craft’s Knit to Flatter and writes about her knitting, modifying patterns to suit your particular needs, and loving your body at http://www.amyherzogdesigns.com. Her designs have been published in Knitscene, Knitty, and Twist Collective and you can find Amy on Ravelry as amyherzog. Andrea Rangel (AR) knits, designs, teaches, and rides her bike in Cowichan Bay in British Columbia, Canada. Her designs are diverse, from the usual socks, sweaters and shawls, to leggings, dresses, and bloomers. She loves to contemplate the intricate interactions of fiber, stitch pattern, shape, and color. Her patterns have been published in Brooklyn Tweed Wool People, Twist Collective, Interweave Knits, Knitscene, and Knitty, as well as independently. Angela Tong (AT) is a knitwear designer based in NJ. Her designs have been published in magazines, books and yarn company pattern collections such as Interweave Knits, Knitscene, Knit Simple, Noro Knitting Magazine, Knit ‘N Style, and PetitePurls.com, Scarf Style 2, Free-Spirit Shawls: 20 Eclectic Knits for Every Day, Classic Elite Shawls, Wraps & Scarves, Crochet Noro: 30 Dazzling Designs and Knit Noro Accessories and Classic Elite Yarns. She is also a certified knitting teacher through the Craft Yarn Council of America’s Certified Instructors Program. And she is the Rigid Heddle Weaving instructor on Craftsy.com. She enjoys teaching so she can help enable others to fall in love with the fiber arts. As a lifelong crafter, she has never met a craft she didn’t like. BabyCocktails (BC) After working in various advertising agencies, Thea Colman took a break to be home with her young daughters and fell into knitwear design, mostly by accident. She’d always been a knitter who couldn’t follow directions, so the idea of writing her own was pretty organic. The opportunity to combine two of her favorite things – knitting and cocktails – into a career, while having the flexibility to raise her daughters, has been amazing. She designs mostly women’s garments and accessories, and loves using cables, lace, and detail to make designs that are classic and wearable, but just a bit unique. Thea lives in the greater Boston area with her husband and two girls and blogs semi-regularly about both the designing and the cocktailing at http://www.babycocktails.com. Becky Herrick (BH) lives on the western slopes of the Green Mountains in Vermont. When she’s not knitting she enjoys playing outside; canoeing and hiking in the summer, skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Around home she and her husband play with the dogs, grow veggies, and watch the chickens. Becky’s designs can be found in Twist Collective, Interweave, Knitty, and elsewhere in print and on the web. Her design inspiration comes from the beauty of Vermont where form and function are always found together. She enjoys that at least once in August it’ll be cold enough for a sweater. Corrina Ferguson (CF) is a knitwear designer and instructor living in Jacksonville, Florida where it is mostly too hot to wear her creations. She specializes in lightweight knits including shawls, sweaters, and accessories. Using yarn as her medium, Corrina’s passion for knitting and mathematical background come together to create wearable works of art. Corrina’s designs and articles appear in popular publications such as Knitscene, Twist Collective, Pom Pom Magazine, and the Classic Elite Web letter. She has also designed for yarn companies such as Baah! Yarn, Manos del Uruguay and The Alpaca Yarn Company. Corrina can be found online at PicnicKnits.com where she blogs about knitting and life with teenage boys, a work-at-home-husband, and an old man beagle. Donna Druchunas (DD) escaped a corporate cubicle to honor her passions for knitting, world travel, research, and writing. She is the author of six knitting books including Arctic Lace, Successful Lace Knitting, Kitty Knits, and Ethnic Knitting Exploration. Her new pattern line, Stories in Stitches, features historical patterns and essays. She lives in Vermont with her husband, mother, and three cats who all help her test the usability and comfort of her finished knitted items. She teaches in the US, Canada and Europe and holds retreats at her private studio. Visit her online at www.sheeptoshawl.com Faina Goberstein (FG) is an accomplished knitwear designer, author, and a professional teacher. She is the co-author of best-selling book The Art of Seamless Knitting. Her designs can be found in Interweave Knits, Knit.Wear, Knitscene, Vogue Knitting, Twist Collective, Interweave Crochet, and various books. Faina is best known for her elegant and well-fitted classic designs showing off textures, cables, brioche, and slip stitch techniques. Working as a design engineer and later teaching college math for many years did not distract her from her passion for knitwear design and knitting and crocheting in general. She is fascinated with many knitting techniques and loves to teach them at many different venues including Stitches, Knitting Lab, knitting guilds, and local yarn shops around the country and abroad. She blogs at http://fainasknittingmode.blogspot.com Heather Zoppetti (HZ) is a knitwear designer and instructor. Her patterns have been published in many Interweave publications, in Knit magazine, and by yarn companies such as The Alpaca Yarn Company, Manos del Uruguay, Baah Yarns, Reywa Fibers, and Universal Yarns. Heather lives and teaches in Lancaster, PA, and can be found at http:// hzoppettidesigns.com Jill Wright (JW) is a crochet and knitwear designer based in Colorado. Her designs have been published in several magazines, books and yarn company pattern collections. Publications include Interweave Crochet, Vogue Knitting International, Knit.1, Creative Knitting, Crochet Magazine, Love of Knitting, Love of Crochet, 60 Quick Knits, Knit Prayer Shawls, Crochet Prayer Shawls, 101 Lace One-skein Wonders, Crocheted Gifts. Yarn company collections include Classic Elite Yarns, Universal Yarns, Zealana, Kollage, and KnitPicks. Jill teaches an online lace and openwork class through Anniescatalog. com and has had booklets published with Leisure Arts (Curvy Crochet) and Annie’s (7 Easy to Knit Handbags for Every Occasion). Her booklet with SOHO Publishing and also a book with Leisure Arts will be released in 2014. Though Jill has tried many, many crafts, she always returns to those most closely related to yarn! Page 9 Katherine Vaughan (KV) has been knitting for 25+ years and designing for more than 5. She primarily designs children’s wear, accessories for adults and the home, and other pieces that strike her fancy. Baby blankets and shawls are her favorite things to design, as well as her most popular patterns among knitters. Her design aesthetic tends to the functional and textural, with an emphasis on cables, lace, and reversible stitches. She has published in print magazines (including Interweave Knits, KnitSimple, Your Knitting Life, and Love of Knitting), online magazines (including Knotions and KnitCircus), and in several book compilations (including both Knitting in the Sun books, two One Skein Wonders volumes, and five forthcoming titles from Cooperative Press). In addition to her design work, Katherine is an extremely popular technical editor, with a client list of more than three dozen independent designers – many of whom are well known internationally. Katherine daylights as a medical librarian in North Carolina, where it is (almost) never too hot to knit. Mercedes Tarasovich-Clark (MT) is a knitwear designer, writer, and teacher based in Birmingham, Alabama. Known for her stylish and feminine designs, she has designed for many yarn companies, books, and magazines, including Classic Elite, Malabrigo, Interweave Knits, Knitscene, Twist Collective, and Knitty. She also stars in the instructional video/DVD, Brioche Knitting Basics. More about Mercedes can be found at mercedesknits.com Mindy Wilkes (MW) lives in suburban Cincinnati but is forever from Appalachia. She has been knitting for eight years and designing for over two years. Her first love is small accessories, especially shawls that feature lace in one way or another. She loves designs that look complicated but are sweetly simple. Mindy’s patterns are published on Ravelry and have been included in Knitscene. When she’s not knitting or designing, she’s wrangling her two small children. She also works and teaches knitting classes at her local yarn store in Hamilton, Ohio. Pam Daley (PD) has been crocheting since she was a little girl thanks to her grandmother; but creating written patterns is something she started more recently. During cancer treatment a few years ago she found the process of designing was something that kept her busy and engaged without being physically exhausting. She started out specializing in baby hats & socks and then branched out to accessories for grown-ups too. Pam has self-published over 60 patterns; published through Knit-Picks Independent Designer Program as well as been commissioned by major yarn retailers. Pixie Purls (PP) As the parent of two young, energetic girls and cofounder of the popular children’s magazine Petite Purls, Brandy Fortune is a practical knitter. She keeps her patterns pragmatic and fast, making them accessible for busy beginners yet interesting enough for more experienced knitters. She also recently had a book with a collection of knitting patterns for children and dolls called “Just Like Me Knits” published by Randomhouse . She lives in Virginia with her husband and their two daughters. Visit Brandy at www.pixiepurls.com. Poetry in Yarn (PY) Lindsey Stephens brings her love for teaching and mathematics into everything she does. She has her own design line, Poetry in Yarn, and has published patterns in Crochet World magazine, Koigu magazine, the book Curvy Girl Crochet, and other publications. Lindsey also uses her mad math and technical skills for good as a crochet tech editor and website designer. After five years as a stay-athome mom, she now teaches math and science at a Yeshiva elementary and middle school in Connecticut. Learn more about Lindsey at www. poetryinyarn.com or on Ravelry, where she goes by Leebah. Meet the Designers Rachel Erin (RE)’s philosophy is to design imaginative, innovative knitwear, that are special yet versatile, memorable yet classic, and as enjoyable to wear as they are to knit. She currently lives in Italy with her husband and three daughters. Rock + Purl has been knitting & crocheting since childhood. Ruth began her journey as a designer, instructor and technical editor when she quit a corporate job that made her unhappy – she still thanks them for the extensive Excel skills that became so handy for pattern grading. With a dressmaker’s approach to a tailored look, Ruth loves to make people feel elegant effortlessly and includes a wide range of sizes in all her garments and accessories – for men & women. Ruth lives and works from her tiny studio in West Sussex, south UK. She sometimes misses the blazing sunshine and siesta culture from her hometown of Valencia, Spain. Stephannie Tallent (SC) is a knitwear designer based in sunny Hermosa Beach, California, where she lives with her husband Dave, dog Rigel and cats Meggie and Cali. She’s the author of California Revival Knits and Hitch: Patterns Inspired by the Films of Alfred Hitchcock. She self publishes under the brand Sunset Cat Designs on Ravelry, Craftsy and Patternfish. Stephannie teaches and occasionally tech edits. Her patterns are inspired by natural history, architecture, films, literature: really, by anything that hits a chord. Favorite techniques include cabling, stranding and lace. She also works as a small animal veterinarian, graduated from West Point, and served as a Military Intelligence Officer. Tabetha Hedrick (TH), a freelance knitwear designer and writer raising a family in Colorado, lives by the belief that joy comes when fully participating in the present moment. And that joy is ever so easy to find when immersed in the world of fiber! Her work has been published in numerous magazines, books, and yarn company pattern collections, such as Creative Knitting, Knitscene, Classic Elite, Tangled, and Kollage. Tabetha’s designs are classic, with distinctly lovely silhouettes, beautiful stitch arrangements, and well written patterns. Visit her site for blog ramblings, portfolio, and teaching schedule, www.tabethahedrick.com. The Shetland Trader (ST) Gudrun was born in Shetland in the 70’s when her mother was running the successful knitwear design company, The Shetland Trader. Some 30 years later and now living in the U.S., she has followed in her mother’s footsteps by reviving the Shetland Trader name, and has made a name for herself in the knitwear design industry using the internet to directly interact with an international community of knitters. Gudrun often includes aspects of her Shetland heritage in her designs, mostly utilizing traditional lace patterns in a contemporary context. She also loves to design using seamless construction methods and is always adding new methods to her seamless knitting skills. Gudrun has had designs published in Knitty.com, Twist Collective.com, Brooklyn Tweed.com, Knit On The Net.com, and with Interweave Press publications. Her designs can be found at theshetlandtrader.com Triona Murphy (TM) lives in the Midwest and is obsessed with all things wool. She gravitates toward contemporary (but not too contemporary!) stylings, yummy texture, simple lace and colorwork, and designs that look far more complicated to make than they actually are. She strives to make her designs available to knitters in as wide a range of sizes as possible. Triona publishes patterns through Ravelry and her website, and she also has had patterns included in yarn company collections, in print and online magazines, and in books. Besides designing, Triona also writes young adult novels and hopes to get them published someday. Neckwear Page 10 AR01 - Ablaze 605 yds. DK wt. Neckwear KV02 - Alley Collar 75-85 yds. bulky wt.
