2015 AMP Lineworkers Rodeo Brochure
AMP Lineworkers Rodeo Aug. 28-29, 2015 Columbus Registration now open AMP Headquarters 1111 Schrock Road Columbus, OH 43229 www.amppartners.org 2015 AMP LINEWORKERS RODEO W e’re very excited to invite you to the second annual AMP Lineworkers Rodeo. This is a wonderful event that showcases the talents of the lineworkers in AMP member communities. At the Rodeo, journeyman and apprentice lineworkers demonstrate their skill and knowledge of the craft. Safety plays a huge role in the day-to-day work that lineworkers perform and is emphasized in the AMP Rodeo. All Rodeo events are based on safe work practices, neatness, ability, equipment handling and timely event completion. There are three levels lineworkers compete in for professional recognition: journeyman team, individual journeyman and apprentice. Lineworkers are also provided the opportunity to attend training courses and attendees have a unique opportunity to connect with, and learn from, the AMP community of lineworker professionals. Trophies will be presented during an awards banquet. The overall winners from each of the three categories are provided full sponsorship to attend and compete in the national American Public Power Association (APPA) Lineworkers Rodeo. The sponsorship provided includes travel costs, overnight accommodations and entry fees. The winners of the journeyman team and apprentice categories from AMP’s first Lineworkers Rodeo represented AMP in May 2015 at the APPA event in California. The individual journeyman winner was provided a similar opportunity to serve as a judge at the APPA Rodeo. Partial sponsorship is also available, but competitors must participate in the AMP Rodeo to qualify for sponsorship to the APPA event. The AMP Rodeo is a fun and family-friendly event. It is a wonderful opportunity for families to see and better understand utility work. AMP’s Rodeo will again feature a children’s tent with kid-friendly activities during the day. Last year we offered face painting, coloring activities, photos and more. Food will be available for purchase during the day. The 2014 event had excellent attendance with approximately 150 competitors and spectators, and we hope that you will join us this year. Judges and volunteers will also be needed for the event. Please email to [email protected] if you are interested, or if you have any questions about the AMP Lineworkers Rodeo. –Michelle Palmer, P.E. AMP Assistant Vice President of Technical Services Events & rules will be posted at www.amppartners.org Hotel Information: Rooms are available at the Crowne Plaza North, 6500 Doubletree Ave., Columbus, OH for the discounted rate of $96/night (includes breakfast for one person per room in the restaurant) plus applicable taxes. It really brought everyone together and created a competitive spirit around the desire to do their best at every Rodeo event. The Rodeo also definitely correlates to safe work practices. It provided our crew with a lot of climbing time and pole work procedure discussion as it relates to working off their hooks and preforming the rodeo events in a safe and productive manner. –Al Sullivan Superintendent Electric Distribution Bryan Municipal Utilities ” 2014 Top Finishers Overall – Apprentice: From left: Cody Painter, CVEC, third; Michael Roark, Westerville, second; and Shemill Johnson, Cleveland, first. Preparing for and participating in the APPA and AMP rodeos allow us to sharpen our skills, the same skills that our customers depend on to provide the highest levels of reliability and customer service. In addition, it is so easy for us to become isolated within our communities. The lineworker rodeos provide invaluable networking opportunities. Our employees often bring back ideas that allow us to do our jobs better, which contributes to our ultimate goal – to be the best at what we do. –Ed Krieger Director of the Piqua Municipal Power System Member of the AMP Board of Trustees ” American Municipal Power, Inc.
