Cornerstone provides a wide range of Christian books and resources to
the local churches, schools and community. It is a registered charity run
by a Board of Trustees who oversee the vision and direction of the business. It has been trading in Skipton for over 21 years
Our old Yorkshire stone shop can be found just off the bustling Skipton
High Street with its flourishing market. It holds four main book rooms
over two floors and hosts a cosy coffee shop. Customers travel considerable distances to enjoy a few hours of browsing along with a light lunch or
coffee and cake.
Cornerstone is more than a shop. It's a community of people who love
books. Our staffs are trained to help you find that right book or resource,
and maybe the customer looking alongside you will help as well. Allow
plenty of time when you visit us ...you'll need it.
What is the Cornerstone Resources Room?
Cornerstone wants to be a resource for the mission and ministry of local
churches, schools and Christian organisations, and that means more than
just books. You will always be able to buy good quality Christian books
here (and we hope you will!) but, we now provide a unique selection of
good quality resources available FOR LOAN!
 Why buy when you can borrow?
 Why spend hours creating a resource when you can use someone
else's
 Why re-invent the wheel when it has already been done?
 Why repeat the old when you can be inspired by new, creative resources?
Who can borrow the resources?
Individuals, church groups, churches, schools or community groups can
sign up to borrow. There is an annual subscription fee or one-off three
month trial subscription. As a subscriber you will become part of a network of people eager to discover new and creative ways of exploring and
sharing the Christian faith in a wide range of contexts. You will receive
regular e-newsletters and special rates when attending resources events.
Prompt return is essential, but anyone from your group or church can collect or return the items.

The Eggsplorers are a creative means of engaging children with the Bible

Prayer reflection cards on the theme of Images of God (40 x A3 size)
‘Images of God’ is a book of reflections published by Eerdmans Books for
Young Readers. ISBN 978-0802853912. The beautiful art work and reflections have been mounted onto A3 card and laminated for use by groups
of children and adults. They are stunning! Great for use in small groups,
in the classroom or at prayer stations.

Oak finger prayer labyrinths with accompanying reflections (x2)
The ancient tradition of walking a labyrinth as a form of Christian prayer
and reflection has been rediscovered in recent years. Accessing labyrinths
is more challenging. These beautifully crafted solid oak finger labyrinths
enable all of us to experience a sense of journeying with God from the
comfort of our armchairs or prayer stools. Each labyrinth is accompanied
by guidelines and suggestions for use. Great for use on prayer and reflection days.

Happenings is a unique set of 30 prayer reflection cards. Fifteen resource
boxes have been put together to accompany these cards. These will enable you to set up the visual display for your church, group, class or assembly. The visuals provide a stimulus for reflection and a focal point for you

This box contains a collection of aids to setting up prayer stations e.g.
cloths, candles, plaques, pictures and cards to aid reflection, fabrics.
These are ideal for church prayer days, school prayer corners, prayer
groups etc.

Resources for Advent & Christmas
The Jesse Tree is based on the well- known prophecy of Isaiah 11:1. It
makes an excellent project for Advent illustrating the history of our faith
as we look forward to the coming of Christ at Christmas. It could form the
basis of the four Sundays of Advent or be incorporated into a service or
school assembly. The pack contains a set of 21 coloured symbols ready to
hang on ‘a tree’. A larger A3 set is also available for use as a visual aid in a
larger group. A folder of leader’s notes offers suggestions and additional
resources to help leaders adapt this material.

The travelling crib is a simple and creative way of celebrating Advent. It is
a way of taking the story of the coming of Jesus into homes, schools,
groups or businesses in the community. A crib box, Advent candle and
storybook travels from home to home, classroom to classroom or business to business during the days of Advent. The start and the end of the
journey may be marked in a special gathering. Each ‘host’ may record in a
special journal their experience of setting up the crib and in so doing create a meaningful account of the crib’s journey. The box provides a nativity set and a full pack of notes outlining the project with guidelines for
planning. Make sure you start your planning early. Once the project begins, it runs itself but needs careful preparation.

This is a simple story with simple visual aids designed to introduce preschool children to the key characters of the nativity story. It can be told in
just two minutes but we guarantee the children will want to hear it again,
and again. It works well in a crèche, toddler group, pre-school or nativity
service where very young children are present. The script is included in
the pack.

This is a simple retelling of the nativity story told in the repetitive style of
‘The House that Jack Built’ . It works well with pre-school children and primary aged children who can take part by holding a picture, listening to

Stable visual aids (x2)
This is a set of visual aids used to illustrate Bob Hartman’s retelling of the
Christmas Story from the Lion Christmas Storyteller Bible. The script has
been adapted, (with permission) and is ideal for use at an all-age gathering or nativity service where children are present. The story encourages
congregation participation.

Song Rolls
Song rolls have to be experienced to be believed. Essentially they are
large rolls of paper (similar size to wallpaper, but much better quality)
with wonderful illustrations of well-known songs, hymns and carols. They
come with a CD recording of the song and can be used in services, assemblies or community gatherings. As the pictures are literally ‘unrolled’,
they can quieten the largest congregations. Experience shows that simply
listening and looking at the song rolls, without singing, is enough and can
have a powerful effect. Song rolls should be rehearsed several times before using in a service and require two people; one to hold and one to
manage the folding paper at the bottom. They work brilliantly from a high
pulpit! Advance book to avoid disappointment and be prepared to return
very quickly as they will be great demand.

Resources for Lent & Easter
The Last Supper Scene (x2)
This is a moving scene of The Last Supper created from 9 inch knitted figures of the twelve disciples, Jesus, wine filled chalices, platters and broken bread. They are
accompanied by two long tables to allow the supper scene to be set as a striking visual aid to this significant event during
Holy Week. The box also includes a collection of Easter storybooks that
include the retelling of this story. It is a wonderful resource for Holy
Week, especially Maundy Thursday, or simply for use as a teaching aid to
the background of Holy Communion. This will be enjoyed by all ages.

HOLY WEEK EGGS
This is a simple but very effective means of teaching and telling the
events of Holy Week. It can be used in a number of different ways
As a visual teaching aid for an all-age service
As a visual teaching aid for school assemblies
As a basis for Sunday group teaching throughout Lent
Part of a Holy Week activity day or club
The activity can be as simple or advanced as you want to make it according to the age and stage of development of the children/adults you are
working with. The 6 eggs (or more if you wish) each represent one of the
stories of Holy Week. They contain a symbol of that story and a bible
verse directing the children to the account of the story. For example:
Egg 1 Contains a palm leaf and a donkey - Jesus rides into Jerusalem
Egg 3 Contains a chalice – Last Supper (Add your own piece of Bread)
Egg 4 Contains 30 pieces of silver – Judas betrayal
Egg 5 Contains a picture of praying hands – in the garden of Gethsemane
Egg 7 Contains a small cross – crucifixion
Egg 6/12 Empty - representing the empty tomb
Teachers and group leaders may use any number of the eggs according to
the number of stories you wish to tell. Obviously some of the stories are
more suitable for younger children than others.
Not only is the project a great way to tell The Easter Story, it becomes a
tool for re-telling that story to families, friends and neighbours. The
children will love it!

A-Cross the World
This box contains a collection of crosses from different countries around
the world. Each one is accompanied by the story behind the creation of
each cross and a suggestion for re-creating the cross in a simple way. It is
based on the resource book by the same title published by BRF (price
£15.99) and it is strongly recommended that anyone borrowing the box,
purchases the book for a lot of additional material. This resource is suitable for adults and children alike and an excellent aid to Lent and/or Holy
Week but can be used at any time of the year. Crosses will be added to
the box into the future. If you are travelling abroad and see any unusual
crosses from that country, please bring one home and add it to the
collection. We will be happy to reimburse you.
