On behalf of the Executive, I’d like to welcome you to the 2012 outdoor soccer season on the club’s 39th anniversary. It is
always good to see so many familiar faces,
as well as many new faces, and the executive is happy to help bring these programs
to our membership. We have been busy
gearing up for the season and hope you
see the results of the hard work of our
volunteers and staff. Thanks to everyone
that has taken the time to coach, convene,
sponsor or work on the executive. It is
these volunteer efforts that help make the
soccer season special for so many children
in your community.
Good luck to all our players and coaches,
we wish you a great season! If you need
any help, please don’t hesitate to contact
the club office or executive members.

House League Opening Day and BBQ is this

unforeseen problems with the club scheduling system and website, the schedules are
still not finalized and will be communicated
through your coaches. The executive apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
If you haven’t heard from your coach by

It takes many volunteers to pull the season
together, so please don’t forget to let your
coaches and other volunteers know that you
appreciate what they do. Everyone is working hard to make this a fun season. The
house league is about player development,
and we hope both players and spectators
can bring a positive attitude to the fields and
encourage fair play so that everyone can
enjoy learning some skills in a healthily competitive atmosphere.
Finally, please consider volunteering if you
aren’t already. There are lots of things going
on off the fields too. From helping with
events like picture day, Cup Day and the
yearend Harvest Gala, to working on the
club newsletter, running a club contest for
the kids, getting involved with fundraising
and sponsorship, offering assistance if you
are a handyman or volunteering to be a
team manager or run the team snack list,
every little bit helps make your club better.
To ensure teams are balanced so the season
is fun for everyone, it may be necessary to
move some players after a few games. Every
effort will be made to ensure this happens
as early as possible and before picture day.

The Caledon Triple Threat U11
girls are proving to be a force to
reckon with. Since winning their
first ever tournament (The
Woodbridge Classis) in September 2011, they went on to play in
the Indoor League at the Hershey Sports Complex 2011/2012
indoor season.

Coach’s Corner
Your Team's First Practice
Make your players feel special by
learning all of their names as
soon as possible. When each
player arrives, give them a
proper handshake, studying their
face and introduce yourself by
the name you wish to be called
for the season, eg "Coach Cam."
Remember their most distinguishing feature, eg . curly hair,
and link it to their name. Repeat
their name back to them to help
you remember it. Tell them that
you hope they have lots of fun
this season and that you will try
to help them to become the best
player that they can be. On your
team list, check off their name
and note their distinguishing
feature for future reference to
help you link their name.
Remember at all times that you
are the player's role model. If
you are positive and enthusiastic, they will have a tendency to
copy you. So decide what your
own philosophy and style of
coaching is, and try at all times at
the field to live it. Show attention to each player and their
ability. Teach them to respect
the referee’s decisions, your
decisions and their own decisions. Inform them that everyone makes mistakes, including
superstars like Ronaldo. Smart
players learn from their mistakes
and improve. Motivate them to
try new techniques in practice
each week. As they become confident in their new talent, encourage them to try it during a
game.
If you can keep the kids happy,
you will be well on your way to
keeping the parents happy. Use
95% of your attention and energy on the players rather than
the parents.
Use lots of game-style drills for
individuals or small teams, ie. 2
players versus 2 players to provide lots of ball contact and
player contact. Make them competitive. There are many exam-
ples of games available in manuals or at websites like
www.footy4kids.co.uk and soccer-coaching-blog.com.

to deliver courses to our players

Congratulations (Cont’d from Page 2)
The U11 girls played a total of 18 games
with 15 wins, 2 loses and 1 tie, to win the
indoor season championship beating out
North Mississauga Soccer Club who finished 2nd and the Georgetown Mustangs
finishing 3rd in their division. The team
was able to score a total or 69 goals with
only 19 goals against them for the season.
Coach McDonald has now handed the
Head Coaching position over to Caledon
Coach Orlin Chalmers, who will continue to
working with the team in the PHDL 2012
Outdoor season alongside Assistant Coach
Leslie Burgess. The team presented Coach
McDonald with a team picture to remind
him of his success with the team and
wished him well in his
future soccer endeavors.
Coach Orlin has been
welcomed by the girls
who are excited about
his wealth of knowledge
and experience in the
game of soccer.
The team also entered the 2012 March
Mayhem Tournament in Guelph, ON and
played against Guelph Royals A, Waterloo
United and Thornhill Thunder. They advanced to the finals against Waterloo
United to win the tournament game 3 – 2,
take home the gold once again.
The Triple Threat team saw some changes
to their coaching staff at the end of their
indoor season with Coach Brent McDonald
stepping down after 3 years with the team.

British Soccer Camp in Caledon!
The Caledon Soccer Club is once again
hosting British Soccer Camps from
Challenger Sports for the week of July 1620, 2012. British Soccer Camps provide
players of all ages and abilities with the
rare opportunity to receive high-level
soccer coaching from a team of
international experts. Comments from
participants in the 2011 camp include
that it was “a tremendous experience for
him to learn new techniques and push
himself a little more” and that they “have
been "raving" about it and the kids are still
saying “Brilliant” all the time.” Read the

Both a mini-soccer camp, for ages 4-6
from 9—10:30 am, and a full day camp,
