ROADSTAR CARAVANS SAFARI TAMER – MODENA
JOURNEY
Bound
Mike and Cynthia won’t
be leaving their comforts
at home for the big lap
M
ike and Cynthia
Bull are like a lot
of RVers – they’re
dreaming of the big
lap right around
Australia. Currently tying up some final
family commitments at home in QLD,
they recently made the decision to acquire a caravan for their upcoming travels. Mike is a passionate painter, and
they are both big fans of art. So they
intend on taking their time so that Mike
can paint, using the beautiful Australian
outback as his inspiration.
With this in mind, the Bulls were intent
on getting an RV that could house them for
an extended period of time. It needed to
have all of the comforts of home, as well
as a modernised interior that was light and
refreshing. They are intending on travelling
for leisure, so they want to feel relaxed.
Ken and his team at Roadstar Caravans
understood what Mike and Cynthia were
after, and worked to ensure their new
Safari Tamer was built to exactly what they
wanted. Mike mentioned he carried out
extensive research with a number of manufacturers before committing to Roadstar,
but couldn’t find better value for money or
better build quality anywhere else.

The Safari Tamer is set to take Mike
and Cynthia on many adventures.
They had only just picked it up when
we spoke to them, and they intend on
taking their time in travelling Australia.
They’ve definitely picked a comfortable van to accompany them!

The awning is a one-person operation
and easy to extend. Mike simply has to
lock the arms in place on either side, and
pull the strap to extend it to its fully erect
position. Also note the step under the
door that makes it easy to get in and out
of the caravan, no matter what the terrain.
The exterior is lined with chequerplate
along the bottom, should Mike and Cynthia journey off the black top. They also
had a provision included for a generator.
Mike doesn’t want to take any chances
while on the road, particularly as they
are looking to take an extended trip. The
generator, he assured us, will help them
to remain completely self-sufficient
whenever necessary.

Cynthia demonstrates how easy it is to
lift the bed and access the storage underneath. She said it was a great way
to make the most of the space that’s
available, and a great design feature.
It wouldn’t take long to get your wardrobe organised there, saving countless
hours rummaging through suitcases
for that lost t-shirt!

plan, to make maximum use of the space that is available in every corner of the interior. A four-burner stove and stainless steel range hood is also part of their set-up.
Look into stainless steel when building your van, as it is easy to clean and lasts well
compared to some other styles.
The aptly named Modena décor carries
right throughout the van. The bathroom is thoroughly modern, offering
all the conveniences of a modern
home on wheels. A washing machine
has even been put in place, to ensure
you have the maximum amount of
freedom when you travel.
Cynthia demonstrated some of the windows and window coverings her and Mike
had installed in the Roadstar. Privacy screens were a great inclusion, giving them
some privacy whenever needed. There are plenty of windows right around the van
that ensure natural light is always present when the sun is up. Combined with the
Modena décor interior, Cynthia says it makes the interior feel “perpetually fresh”.

The electrical system in Mike and
Cynthia’s Roadstar is definitely a
highlight in the design. Rather than
housing the battery and corresponding wiring in an outside compartment, it utilises the space under the
dinette, which also means it’s easier
for them to access.

There is a place for everything, and everything in its place with the Safari Tamer.
The stereo is neatly housed in the cabinetry and a small cabinet directly above
is the perfect spot to house your CD collection. Mike was quick to point out that
it’s the little design features such as this
that really made the difference when
they were deciding on their van.
The chassis and running gear of the
Safari Tamer are well constructed.
Mike did plenty of investigation prior
to his purchase, and was particularly
impressed with how Roadstar put its
framework, plumbing and electrical
fittings together. Everything is neatly
housed or routed so as to ensure there
are no breakages.
